Anthony Tarke

Summer League Commitments: Bulls, Pistons, Spurs

Four-year NBA veteran Sindarius Thornwell has committed to play summer league with the Bulls, a league source told Hoops Rumors. Thornwell holds 160 games of experience, making past stops with the Clippers, Pelicans and Magic.

The 2022 Las Vegas Summer League will be held from July 7-17 this year. Thornwell, the No. 48 pick out of South Carolina in 2017, most recently played in Germany.

Here are some other commitments to pass along:

  • The Pistons are bringing swingman Anthony Tarke to summer league, his agent Billy Davis of Family of Athletes said. Tarke joined the Pistons for training camp last fall. He appeared in 10 games with the team’s G League affiliate this year.
  • The Spurs will add swingman Robert Woodard II to their summer league roster, a source told Hoops Rumors. Woodard signed a two-way contract with the team in March and will soon be a free agent.
  • Denzel Mahoney has also accepted a summer league invite from the Spurs, according to a source. Mahoney joined the team for training camp last fall and played for the team’s G League affiliate this year.

Pistons Waive Anthony Tarke, Announce Camp Roster

The Pistons have waived rookie wing Anthony Tarke, according to the NBA’s transactions log. The team also released its initial roster for training camp.

Tarke bounced around a bit in college, starting at NJIT before transferring to UTEP and Coppin State. He put up an eye-popping 2.6 SPG and 1.9 BPG as a senior for Coppin State, but his shooting stroke might need some work. He most recently suited up for the Pistons’ Summer League squad.

Tarke signed a non-guaranteed Exhibit 10 contract last week that makes him eligible to receive up to $50K if he spends at least 60 days with the Pistons’ G League affiliate, the Motor City Cruise.

The Pistons sit at 17 players under contract for training camp, with reported deals with Derrick Walton Jr. and Cassius Stanley not yet official — there’s been no indication that those agreements have fallen through, so they’ll likely be finalized later in training camp or the preseason.

Pistons Sign Anthony Tarke To Camp Deal

The Pistons have signed rookie free agent wing Anthony Tarke to a non-guaranteed training camp contract, according to RealGM’s transactions log.

Tarke, 23, began his college career at NJIT before transferring to UTEP and then to Coppin State. He had his best season as a senior for Coppin State, filling up the box score with 16.1 PPG, 8.2 RPG, 3.6 APG, 2.6 SPG, and 1.9 BPG. He posted a .473/.321/.561 shooting line in 22 games (34.8 MPG).

Although he wasn’t selected in the July 29 draft, Tarke caught on with Detroit’s Summer League team in Las Vegas, appearing in four games for the club and averaging 4.0 PPG and 3.0 RPG in a limited role (15.8 MPG).

Having signed Tarke, the Pistons are now carrying 18 players — 14 on guaranteed contracts, two on two-way deals, and a pair on non-guaranteed camp contracts. The team has also reportedly reached an agreement to add Derrick Walton to its 20-man roster.

Theoretically, Tarke could be in play for a spot on the Pistons’ 15-man regular season roster – or a two-way contract, if Luka Garza is promoted – but he seems more likely to end up joining the Motor City Cruise, Detroit’s new G League affiliate. His Exhibit 10 contract would put him in line for a bonus worth up to $50K if he’s waived before the regular season and then spends at least 60 days with the Cruise.
