March 15: Bassey has officially signed his 10-day contract with the Celtics, according to the team (Twitter link).
March 14: The Celtics intend to sign free agent center Charles Bassey to a 10-day contract, league sources tell Michael Scotto of HoopsHype (Twitter link).
This will be the fourth 10-day contract Bassey has signed in 2025/26. The five-year veteran spent 10 days with Memphis on a hardship deal early in the season and completed a pair of 10-day agreements with Philadelphia in late January and early February.
Aside from his three appearances with Memphis and Philadelphia this season, Bassey has spent most of 2025/26 in the G League. In 20 total regular season games (17 with the Santa Cruz Warriors and three with the Delaware Blue Coats), he has averaged 20.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and 2.2 blocks on .606/.426/.654 shooting in 29.9 MPG.
Bassey was selected by Philadelphia with the 53rd pick in the 2021 draft. He was waived after one year with the Sixers and signed with San Antonio, where he played for the past three seasons.
Injuries were an issue for Bassey during his time with the Spurs — his 2022/23 season was cut short due to a non-displaced patella fracture, then he suffered a season-ending ACL tear in December 2023. The 25-year-old appeared in 36 games in 2024/25, averaging 4.4 points and 4.2 rebounds in 10.4 minutes per night.
The 6’10” big man was a standout with the Celtics during Summer League play this July, averaging 15.3 points and 11.0 rebounds per contest in Las Vegas while shooting 70.4% from the field across three outings.
The Celtics had only been carrying 12 players on their standard roster the past two weeks in order to execute an intricate plan to move below the luxury tax line. They’ll need to sign another player in addition to Bassey, notes Yossi Gozlan of The Third Apron (Twitter link).
Bassey will earn $153,330 over the course of his 10 days with Boston, which will carry a cap hit of $131,970.

Giants74? What happened? Warriors went with Yurtseven instead? Why?
OK fine I’ll answer it myself….
Yurtseven is the better player and the Warriors need players who can score on their own.
Bassey is more what the Celtics need right now and that’s grit rebounding shot blocking rim defender.
Warriors don’t need a defensive role player. They need a guy who can put the ball in the basket.
@ Gary…both could easily be on a NBA roster in my opinion. I’ll go as far saying both should be.
He was actually lighting it up in SC.
Quick sidenote, there is a chance Bassey turned them down if your information was correct. Wouldn’t that be a slap in the face but well deserved considering how bad Golden State’s situation is right now.
Watch it Gary, he’ll give you some weird ahh name and say you’re against him enjoying the Warriors or anything about what he says since he is always right and never wrong.
Gary says smart things. He doesn’t make snippy comments. Say something that is productive.
That is productive
Anyways Dubs would do better to just sit everyone out, get a better draft slot than risk any injury to any of their players. Gotta get those interviews and showout going for their end of the bench and potential role or developmental players using those 10 day contracts.
What is wrong with them looking at players that can potentially help them down the line. They have more than one need and one draft pick isn’t going to satisfy them all.
Nobody said it was wrong? What is wrong with you? You changed glasses from a rose colored one?
Look who’s making snippy comments then acts as the victim. Get yourself checked unc.
Moga, Giants is ok in my book. He fights the good fight and takes on anyone who talks crap about our beloved warriors.
I tend to cave and not put in the effort like he does.
Gotta respect the guys on the front lines taking hits for the rest of us.
I am shocked. But, it is only a 10 day contract. I think this is his 2nd of the year. He came back to the Sea Dubs after the last one. They had previously traded for him. He is still, technically, a free agent. He doesn’t have a contract for next year. So, he could still sign a contract for next season. That was what I was focused on. I said before. They have an open roster spot. A 10 day contract gives them time to look at a player up close. There might still be time to sign another player to 10 day contract.
Nice. Bassey is familiar with the playing group. With Vuch out a while could always use some extra muscle.
Seems to me Vuc will be a FA next year. Queta has shown to be ready this year. I think Celtics go in a different direction. Instead of paying Vuc FA money. Queta playing 25 mins, 63% FG, practically avg a double double. And playing good big man D. They can save a lot of money here.
Hopefully a sign and trade since Boston acquired the Bird Rights to Vuc. Getting anything in return would be nice. A fee 2nd round picks, some depth, anything.
Yeah that can work. Get a pick or younger. Smart
Boston can most definitely sign Vucevic this off season if they wish. Is why they made the moves the did to fix their cap situation going forward.
Yeah but Celts are showing they don’t need him. Queta is playing starter mins. So why would you sign him. He wants starer mins. They can go a different way and miss a beat and save money. Or spend it somewhere else.
Oh they need him. Queta was always starting even after the trade. Vucevic did an interview just before Boston acquired him stating he’s ready for a different role while in the twilight of his career and doesn’t expect to start or starters money at his age, his words. Boston acquired him to be their Horford going forward. They acquired him to keep him but, s**t does happen, things change. Got plenty of scoring with the j’s and White starting.
Pritchard and vuch will cook in the second unit. Vuch would probably still play crunch time anyway.
Queta has never played more than 14 mins before this year. So he is just starting to show. You don’t orove anything till you do it a few yrs. It’s why they got Vuc. You are missing the point. They don’t need Vuc for 20 mins a game. He isn’t taking a discount for Celtics. You are dreaming. This is his last contract. And if he agrees then for Celtics. I highly doubt it and expect him to go FA.
Lol ok. Stop moving the goalposts. Queta came on last season. Sounds like a good outcome for the knicks that. I’d want Garza or rookie Williams playing too if i was a Knick. Why wouldn’t they keep vucevic and Queta with the cap under control? One Defensive minded, the other offensive. The plan is to keep him until proven otherwise. Boston don’t need young guys. The young guys they have under team friendly deals are contributing. Boston aren’t going anywhere and will be better next season with a bit of luck.
I give facts. Teams get players based on facts. Not what you hope they do. Celtics getting Vuc. Tells you what ???? They want offense from the C. But Queta is starting to give better mins. Vuc gets hurt . And what happened ??? Queta has stepped up. So the trade isn’t looking as good. What is a price that works?? He took less last time at 15 mill. He was pushing 20 a game to get paid. So he isn’t giving a discount. That so hard to see. Tgere will be teams to give him 15 mill easy. Even 20-25 to etart 32 mins. Celtics don’t need that. What you don’t believe thats a real scenario. Its his last contract. Not taking kess than 20 mill.
By stretches the floor and Queta cannot. Different skill sets.
That’s right. All I am saying us. Tgey traded for offense, a stretch 5. But him getting hurt. Has opened up an opportunity for Queta. He is showing more offense. So Celts have to be thinking this over. Plus he’s going to get more than Queta. You feeling me now. At 15 mill or less I do it. Warriors could iffer 20 mill. Even Bulls could iffer 20 mill.
Vu* not By lol stupid iPhone
He’s 35 now and knows that Al had a lot of success being a center that could stretch the floor in Boston with these players. He could contend for years in Boston on a relatively good deal for both sides. We’ll see.
I am not disputing that. Only stating he will have options. And Celts with Queta showing more offense. May not be as committed.
We’ll see! Gonna be a great playoffs and offseason with a talented draft pool. It’s awesome to be a hoops fan right now!
Facts? He was just on $60 for three seasons. I think that’s $20 per. He’ll take $30 for two, which Boston can do and not skip a beat. 20 a game on the Bulls, it’s winning time now.
You’ll have your 2nd and 3rd string C guarding him and Pritchard. At least make the finals this season because you aren’t getting back to the big dance any time soon after 25/26.
If anything the cap fairy is coming for the knicks. We already punched said cap fairy down the stairs. Over to NY, you can’t pay this sort of salary out forever. 25/26 or bust. Let’s see how you go while cutting costs. Oh yeah, Brunson wants to get paid too. No more discounts. Trades to save coin incoming @ MSG.
Didn’t Cam Thomas just average 20 a game?
10 day contracts have nothing to do with next season, these comments are wild lol
Vooch is a one and done player for the celtics unless he is willing to take a major salary cut and be willing to sign a 2 year deal and thats were the problem some team will over more money and longer term
Who cares? I like Vuc, but no one is thinking he’s a long-term solution.
Trading for Vooch was a mistake. You have Queta and Garza already, you needed a PF
Tatum to SF and Brown to SG
