Suns Sign Michael Beasley
JULY 20TH: The Suns have confirmed that the Beasley deal is done, tweets Ray Richardson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
JULY 4TH: ESPN.com's Marc Stein reports that unrestricted free agent forward Michael Beasley has agreed to sign with the Phoenix Suns for $18MM over three years.
According to Stein, Beasley, who played the last two seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves, chose Phoenix over four other interested teams. Beasley, 23, averaged 11.4 PPG and 4.7 RPG in 2011/12 as a member of the Timberwolves.
The T-Wolves decided not to extend a qualifying offer to Beasley last week, ensuring that he'd be an unrestricted free agent, and Minnesota wouldn't have a chance to match offers and retain him. The Suns, meanwhile, have now committed a sizable chunk of cap space to the agreement with Beasley and an offer sheet for Eric Gordon. There were rumors that the Suns would also aggressively pursue Goran Dragic, but the club may not have the necessary remaining cap space to make the point guard a competitive offer.
Nets Re-Sign Kris Humphries
FRIDAY, 11:39am: The Nets have officially signed Humphries, the team announced today (Twitter link).
TUESDAY, 10:43am: Humphries' deal with Brooklyn is fully guaranteed, according to Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports (via Twitter). Spears adds that Charlotte offered Humphries a three-year, $28MM deal.
9:19am: The Nets and Kris Humphries have reached an agreement on a two-year contract worth $24MM, according to ESPN.com's Marc Stein (via Twitter). The deal will pay Humphries a flat rate of $12MM in each season, says Howard Beck of the New York Times (via Twitter). Stein tweeted last week that the Nets were believed to be offering Humphries $24MM for three years, so the reported agreement represents a nice pay bump for the power forward.
Sixers Sign Kwame Brown
THURSDAY: The deal is now official with Brown's signature, agent Mark Bartelstein told John N. Mitchell of the Philadelphia Inquirer.
FRIDAY: Free agent big man Kwame Brown has agreed to sign with the 76ers, according to agent Mark Bartelstein (Twitter link via SI.com's Sam Amick). Brown's contract will be for two years and is worth a little under $6MM, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports (Twitter link). The second year of the deal is a player option.
It was just earlier today that we heard that the Sixers had about $2.9MM of cap space remaining and were looking to sign a player that could start at center. It appears Brown will be signed using the team's leftover cap room, and looks like a good bet to crack the starting lineup.
Brown, 30, signed a one-year deal with the Warriors in December, but played only nine games for Golden State before suffering a season-ending chest injury. In his last relatively full season, the former first overall pick appeared in 66 games for the Bobcats in 2010/11, averaging 7.9 points and 6.8 rebounds in 26.0 minutes per contest.
Trail Blazers Sign Claver, Lillard, Leonard
9:07pm: All three years of Claver's deal are guaranteed and without options, tweets Mark Deeks of Sham Sports. Claver will receive $1.3MM in year 1, $1.33MM in year 2, and $1.37MM in the final season.
JULY 11, 11:00pm: The deal for Claver is for three years and a total of $4MM, tweets Jason Quick of The Oregonian.
4:23pm: Claver's deal is for three years, according to GM Neil Olshey (Twitter link via Chris Haynes of CSNNW.com). That means the Blazers likely signed him using cap space rather than the rookie scale.
Nets Re-Sign Keith Bogans
The Nets announced that they have officially re-signed guard Keith Bogans. Earlier this week it was reported that the Nets expected to retain the veteran.
Bogans, 32, sat out the early part of the NBA season as he waited for his phone to ring with an opportunity. The guard hooked on with the Nets in February as they were desperate for backcourt help but he wound up playing just five games before suffering a fractured left ankle. For his career, Bogans has averaged 6.7 PPG and 2.9 RPG for the Magic, Bobcats, Rockets, Bucks, Spurs, Bulls, and Nets.
Mavericks Sign O.J. Mayo
THURSDAY, 3:59pm: Mayo has officially signed his contract with the Mavs, tweets Dwain Price of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
TUESDAY, 11:40pm: The deal is for two years, with a second-year player option, according to Jeff Caplan of ESPNDallas.com (via Twitter).
10:14pm: Free agent guard O.J. Mayo has announced via Twitter that he's decided to sign with the Mavericks. ESPNDallas.com's Jeff Caplan reports that it's a multiyear deal, and that the Mavs had roughly $4MM left in cap space; they either signed him to a deal that fits under that figure, or are planning to participate in a larger sign-and-trade move.
At this stage in the summer, Mayo was considered to be one of the most sought-after players left on the market. He recently met with the Suns, but reportedly walked away from the meeting with no offer from the team. Mayo was asking for $8MM per season.
Last season the 24-year-old guard's role in Memphis changed, as he saw himself take a permanent role off the bench for the first time in his playing career. In his fourth year, Mayo averaged 12.6 PPG and 2.6 APG, and was nearly dealt to the Celtics for Ray Allen at the trade deadline.
We don't yet know how much money the deal amounts to, which is obviously important, but on the surface this move is a positive one for an active Mavericks team that suffered a huge blow two weeks ago after Deron Williams announced he'd be signing with Brooklyn. Mayo could either slide back into a starting role, or fill in for the recently departed Jason Terry as the team's main scoring presence off the bench.
Bulls Sign Vladimir Radmanovic
THURSDAY, 3:25pm: The Bulls formally announced the signing today in a press release.
WEDNESDAY, 10:24pm: The Bulls have signed Vladimir Radmanovic to a one-year deal, the forward confirmed to David Kaplan of CSNChicago.com. Radmanovic says that the deal will be announced by the club tomorrow.
Radmanovic, 31, averaged 4.5 points and 2.9 rebounds per game in 49 games for the Hawks in 2011/12. For his career, the veteran has averaged 8.2 PPG and 3.9 RPG while shooting 38% from beyond the arc.
Knicks Acquire Raymond Felton From Blazers
THURSDAY, 1:42pm: Mark Deeks of ShamSports clarifies that Felton's deal with the Knicks is for four years and about $14.86MM, with a fourth-year player option.
MONDAY, 4:13pm: The trade is official, according to a Blazers press release. The Knicks receive Felton and Thomas, while the Blazers get Jeffries, Gadzuric, Papanikolaou, Printezis, cash, and a 2016 second-round pick. As ESPN.com's John Hollinger points out (via Twitter), the Knicks can't be sending more than $1MM to Portland, since they already sent $2MM to Houston in the Marcus Camby deal.
Trail Blazers Waive Dan Gadzuric
THURSDAY, 12:27pm: The Trail Blazers have officially requested waivers on Gadzuric, the team announced today (Twitter link). The big man will become an unrestricted free agent, assuming he goes unclaimed.
MONDAY, 5:33pm: Trail Blazers GM Neil Olshey has announced that the team will waive center Dan Gadzuric, tweets CSNNW.com's Chris Haynes. Gadzuric was involved in the sign-and-trade deal that officially went through today sending Raymond Felton back to the Knicks.
Standing 6'11" and 33 years old, Gadzuric has played in just 33 games over the last two seasons. Should he clear waivers and become an unrestricted free agent, it's unclear whether the 10-year veteran will catch on with another NBA team this offseason.
Nuggets Re-Sign JaVale McGee
The Nuggets announced that they have re-signed free agent center JaVale McGee to a multiyear contract. The deal is for four years and worth $44MM, a source told Marc J. Spears of Yahoo Sports (via Twitter). The big man averaged 11.3 PPG, 7.8 RPG and 2.16 BPG in 61 games for the Nuggets and Wizards last season.
Denver acquired McGee from the Wizards as part of a three-team deal on March 15th that sent Nene to Washington. The athletic 24-year-old had a number of memorable mental lapses on the court during his time with the Wizards but appeared to turn a corner with the Nuggets.
“JaVale did a tremendous job for us after the trade,” Executive VP Masai Ujiri said in the release. “He worked hard on the court and did everything our coaches asked of him. Plus, he’s only 24 years old. With our coaching staff, he’s only going to get better.”
McGee turned in a pair of brilliant performances in the Nuggets' first-round series against the Lakers. The 7-footer put up 16 points and 15 rebounds Game 3 and followed that up with 21 points and 14 boards in Game 5.
Late last week, it was reported that the Nuggets offered McGee a five-year deal worth $50MM. The reported pact gives McGee a slightly higher average annual value while allowing him to re-enter the open market before his 29th birthday. The length and value of the deal is strikingly similar to the four-year, $43MM offer sheet that the Clippers matched last offseason in order to keep DeAndre Jordan away from the Warriors.
