NBA D-League Assignments/Recalls: 3/18/17
Here are the D-League transactions for Saturday:
10:45pm:
- The Knicks have assigned forward Maurice Ndour to their Westchester affiliate, the team tweeted.
- The Grizzlies have recalled center Deyonta Davis from Iowa, the team announced in an email.
2:17pm:
- The Raptors have assigned forward Bruno Caboclo and center Pascal Siakam to their D-League affiliate, the team’s media department reports on Twitter. Caboclo has seen limited action in just seven games with Toronto this season while Siakam has averaged 4.2 points and 3.3 rebounds in 52 contests at the big league level.
- The Thunder have assigned forward Josh Huestis to their D-League affiliate, the team announced in a press release. Huestis has played 27 games with the OKC Blue already this season.
- The Cavaliers recalled rookie guard Kay Felder from their D-League affiliate, the team reports on its official site. Felder has played 37 games with the franchise already this season.
Grizzlies Sign Selden, Release Douglas
4:11 pm: According to a press release on the team’s official website, the Grizzlies have signed Selden to a multi-year contract.
12:32 pm: The Grizzlies are planning to sign guard Wayne Selden whose ten-day contract with the Pelicans expired overnight, tweets Shams Charania of The Vertical. To make room, the club will waive Toney Douglas.
In three games for the Pelicans, all starts, Selden averaged 15.7 minutes and 5.3 points per game but the club didn’t extend the offer of a second 10-day contract, opening the door for Memphis to swoop in and add the undrafted rookie.
Though this will be Selden’s first taste of in-season action with the Grizzlies, it’s not his first stint with the franchise. The forward signed with the club in July but was one of the final roster cuts in training camp.
Douglas, in contrast, signed a pair of 10-day contracts with Memphis prior to the All-Star Break this year and was subsequently inked for the remainder of the season with a team option for 2017/18.
Though featured heavily in February and early March, the 31-year-old veteran had fallen out of Memphis’ rotation of late.
Timberwolves Likely To Move On From Stephenson
The Timberwolves are likely to move on from Lance Stephenson as his second 10-day contract expires, says Darren Wolfson of 5 Eyewitness News. The veteran guard has averaged 6.6 points per game this season across stops with the Wolves and Pelicans.
Originally signed to a 10-day deal with Minnesota on February 8 and then a second one following his recovery from an ankle injury on March 8, Stephenson never did quite establish himself in head coach Tom Thibodeau’s rotation.
Beyond the 16 minutes he played on the day he inked the second 10-day deal, Stephenson has played just two minutes for the Timberwolves since.
Queried about free agent Jimmer Fredette on Twitter, Wolfson added that the club has some interest in the guard (who recently saw a prolific season in China draw to an end) but may also have other options in mind as well.
NBA D-League Assignments/Recalls: 3/17/17
Here are Friday’s D-League assignments and recalls from around the NBA:
- The Warriors assigned Kevon Looney to Santa Cruz, the team announced on its official website (link). The assignment will allow Looney to soak up minutes against the Texas Legends in tonight’s game. Looney’s presence has been diminished in Steve Kerr’s rotation lately, averaging 5.2 minutes with six DNPs over Golden State’s last 12 games.
- The Pelicans recalled Cheick Diallo from Greensboro, the team announced on its official website (link). Diallo will be available for tonight’s match-up with the Rockets. Diallo has impressed in the D-League this season, averaging 14 points with 8.2 rebounds over 23 games.
- The Cavs assigned Larry Sanders to the Canton Charge, where he’ll be available for tomorrow’s game against the Windy City Bulls (press release). Sanders will likely have a one-game assignment, as the Charge don’t play again until the 23rd after Saturday’s game. While Sanders is expected to bolster Cleveland’s playoff run, he’s still a bit of a project after sitting out the entire 2015/16 season.
NBA D-League Assignments/Recalls: 3/16/17
Here are Thursday’s D-League assignments and recalls from around the NBA:
9:59pm:
- The Raptors recalled small forward Bruno Caboclo and power forward Pascal Siakam from their D-League affiliate, the Raptors 905, the team’s media relations department tweets. Siakam wound up playing in the Raptors’ 123-102 loss to the Thunder on Thursday, contributing seven points in six minutes. Toronto assigned the same players to their D-League affiliate for practice purposes earlier in the day.
2:48pm:
- The Cavaliers have recalled newly-signed big man Larry Sanders from the D-League, the team announced today in a press release. The Canton Charge are in action tonight, but it appears that Sanders will be with the Cavs for their game against Utah instead.
- The Knicks have recalled forward Maurice Ndour from the D-League, according to the team (Twitter link). Ndour has appeared in 13 games this season for the Westchester Knicks, averaging 13.8 PPG and 6.8 RPG.
- Rookie guard Demetrius Jackson has been recalled from the D-League, while Jordan Mickey has been assigned to take his place on the Maine Red Claws, the Celtics announced today (via Twitter). It’s the fourth NBADL assignment of the season for Mickey.
Pelicans Re-Sign Jordan Crawford
6:22pm: The team confirmed in a press release that Crawford has been signed through the end of the season.
2:50pm: The second year of Crawford’s new contract will be non-guaranteed, tweets Scott Kushner of The Advocate.
1:38pm: Rather than signing a second 10-day contract with the Pelicans, Crawford has agreed to sign a two-year deal with the team, according to Shams Charania of The Vertical (via Twitter). It’s not yet clear what kind of salary guarantees – if any – would be included for 2017/18.
10:30am: Jordan Crawford‘s first 10-day contract with the Pelicans has come to an end, but he’s expected to sign a second 10-day deal with the team, sources tell Justin Verrier of ESPN.com (Twitter link). New Orleans isn’t in action tonight, so the club will have until Friday’s game against Houston to get Crawford locked up to a new deal.
Few players on 10-day contracts make the sort of impact that Crawford has during his first week and a half with the Pelicans. The 28-year-old has assumed a key role off the bench for New Orleans, averaging 14.2 PPG and 3.2 APG in five games (23.4 MPG). A career .405 shooter (.306 on threes) prior to this season, Crawford has been scorching hot in his return to the NBA, with a .509 FG% and .519 3PT%.
The Pelicans, with 12 players on guaranteed contracts, had been carrying three guards on 10-day pacts to fill out their 15-man roster. Wayne Selden‘s deal hasn’t yet expired, and Crawford will be brought back, leaving just one open roster spot — Hollis Thompson‘s second 10-day contract expired this week, and he wasn’t re-signed by the club.
Assuming Crawford finalizes a new 10-day contract with the Pelicans today or tomorrow, that deal will expire later this month, at which point the team will have to decide whether or not to retain him for the season.
Hornets Sign Johnny O’Bryant To Multiyear Deal
1:15pm: The Hornets have formally confirmed O’Bryant’s new deal, which is a multiyear contract, according to a team release. Details haven’t been reported, but the pact likely includes a non-guaranteed salary for 2017/18.
9:08am: Johnny O’Bryant‘s second 10-day contract with the Hornets expired overnight, but the veteran forward won’t have to seek out a new team in free agency. According to Chris Haynes of ESPN.com (via Twitter), Charlotte intends to lock up Bryant with a deal for the remainder of the 2016/17 season.
O’Bryant, 23, spent time with the Nuggets earlier this season before catching on with the Hornets. He has been sidelined as of late with a sprained ankle, but has been decent in limited action during his time with the Hornets, averaging 4.5 PPG on 53.3% shooting in just 8.5 minutes per contest (four games).
Assuming O’Bryant signs for the minimum salary and his new deal is finalized today, it would count for $161,483 on the Hornets’ cap. Charlotte still has its prorated room exception available, so the team isn’t necessarily limited to the minimum salary, but I’d be surprised if O’Bryant gets more than that.
The Hornets will have a full 15-man roster once O’Bryant officially re-signs, though they could have a roster spot opening soon — Briante Weber‘s second 10-day contract with the team expires this weekend, so Charlotte will have to decide whether to retain him for the rest of the season as well.
Sixers Sign Shawn Long To Multiyear Contract
10:38am: The Sixers have officially re-signed Long, the team confirmed today in a press release. The announcement didn’t reveal the terms of the contract, but it’s believed to be a three-year deal, as noted below.
9:28am: As expected, the Sixers will re-sign Shawn Long after his first 10-day contract with the team expired overnight. In fact, Long won’t merely receive a second 10-day deal from the club. According to Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer (Twitter links), the 76ers are expected to sign the young power forward to a contract that runs for an additional two years after this season.
Over-the-cap teams are generally limited to tacking on one extra year to rest-of-season deals at this time of the season, since the minimum salary exception doesn’t allow deals of more than two years. However, the Sixers can take advantage of having leftover cap room by signing Long to a longer-term pact. According to Pompey, Long’s new deal is expected to include a partial guarantee for 2017/18.
After spending training camp with the Sixers in the fall, Long was waived and landed with Philadelphia’s D-League affiliate, the Delaware 87ers. The Louisiana-Lafayette alum was one of the D-League’s most productive players in Delaware, averaging 20.3 PPG and 11.2 RPG with a .538 FG% and earning another look from the Sixers. In four games with the NBA club so far, Long has averaged 4.8 PPG and 3.3 RPG in just 7.8 minutes per contest.
With Long back in the mix, the Sixers will once again have a full 15-man roster. The team could be eligible for a roster exemption to add a 16th man, since four players on the roster have long-term injuries. However, recent reports have suggested Tiago Splitter is getting closer to returning to the court, so Philadelphia may be content to stand pat with 15 players.

Here are Wednesday’s D-League assignments and recalls from around the NBA:
- The Grizzlies assigned center Deyonta Davis to their affiliate in Iowa, the team announced on its website. The rookie has played 29 games for Memphis, averaging just 6.6 minutes per night.
Nets Sign Archie Goodwin To 10-Day Deal
10:53am: The Nets have officially signed Goodwin to a 10-day contract, the team announced today in a press release.
9:32am: The Nets are filling the open spot on their roster by signing Archie Goodwin to a 10-day contract, reports Shams Charania of The Vertical (via Twitter). When Brooklyn’s deal with Goodwin is officially finalized, the team will have a full 15-man squad once again.
A first-round pick in 2013, Goodwin is still just 22 years old, but has struggled to find a long-term NBA home. After three up and down seasons in Phoenix, Goodwin was waived by the Suns prior to the start of the 2016/17 season. The 6’5″ guard briefly caught on with the Pelicans in November when Lance Stephenson suffered a groin injury, but only appeared in three games for New Orleans before being cut.
Goodwin ultimately landed with the Greensboro Swarm, Charlotte’s D-League affiliate. In 34 games this season with the Swarm, he has averaged 17.0 PPG and 5.2 RPG with a .438/.235/.724 shooting line. While Goodwin’s NBADL production has been solid, Chris Reichert of The Step Back is somewhat surprised to see the former Sun getting a call-up, tweeting that there are 10 or 15 D-League players more deserving of an NBA shot.
The Nets made a handful of transactions around the time of the trade deadline, including trading for K.J. McDaniels, acquiring and waiving Marcus Thornton, and cutting Luis Scola. The series of roster moves left the team with 14 players on its roster for the last few weeks.
Brooklyn’s 10-day deal with Goodwin will move the club slightly closer to the salary floor for 2016/17, as our Salary Cap Snapshot shows.
