Calderon Requests Trade From Raptors

Marc Stein of ESPN writes that Jose Calderon would like to be traded from the Raptors. Calderon is well aware that the team does not plan to waive him with their amnesty clause, but is likely seeking a change of scenery with Kyle Lowry appearing to be the team's new starting point guard. Calderon's agent, Mark Bartelstein, confirmed that he and Toronto GM Bryan Colangelo are now working to find a deal (Twitter link). Stein cites sources that believe the Raptors prefer to trade the Spanish guard to a team with cap space in order to acquire a trade exception.

The Raptors and Mavericks have reportedly been in discussions involving Calderon this week, but with the situation of Elton Brand and Luis Scola yet to be resolved, it is understood that Dallas would like to wait and see how much they'll need to set aside for the bidding process before further entertaining any more trade scenarios with Toronto. Also, with newly acquired Darren Collison and rumblings of a contract extension for Delonte West, Rick Carlisle may not necessarily need another point guard right now.

Colangelo mentioned that the team has received "multiple inquiries" for Calderon. If they are unable to deal him, Stein suggests that the Raptors could keep Jose in the short-term to back up Lowry and wait until the February trade deadline to see what other options present themselves.
