Nets Nearing Max Contract With Brook Lopez

4:34pm: Lopez is still considering signing Charlotte's four-year offer sheet, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports. Wojnarowski says the Nets will match any offer sheet Lopez signs, but matching an offer sheet would prevent Brooklyn from trading Lopez for a full year (Twitter links). It looks to me as if Lopez is seeking a little leverage with the Nets, perhaps hoping to increase his fifth-year guarantee.

2:59pm: With trade talks for Dwight Howard dead, the Nets are now expected to finalize a contract with Lopez, tweets SI.com's Sam Amick.

Thunder Sign Hollis Thompson

The Thunder have signed Hollis Thompson to a three-year deal, agent Seth Cohen tells Bobby Bancroft of 106.7 The Fan (Twitter link). Darnell Mayberry of the Oklahoman confirms the agreement, writing that Thompson will receive a partially-guaranteed contract worth the rookie minimum (about $473K) for 2012/13.

Thompson, a 6'8" junior out of Georgetown, went undrafted in June, but quickly found a spot at the back of the Thunder's roster. The 21-year-old becomes the 15th player under contract for next season for Oklahoma City, meaning players like Derek Fisher, Royal Ivey, and Nazr Mohammed almost certainly won't be back.

Knicks May Match Raptors’ Fields Offer Sheet

While it's widely been assumed that the Knicks would decline to match the Raptors' three-year, $19MM offer sheet for Landry Fields, that's not necessarily a given. Raptors president Bryan Colangelo told Toronto media today that there's a "50/50 chance" the Knicks match the Raps' offer to Fields (Twitter link via Ryan Wolstat of the Toronto Sun).

Jeremy Evans Re-Signs With Jazz

WEDNESDAY, 2:02pm: The Jazz have officially re-signed Evans, according to a team release.

THURSDAY, 7:01pm: Jeremy Evans has agreed to terms with the Jazz on a three-year, $5.5MM deal, reports David Aldridge of NBA.com (on Twitter). The forward was a restricted free agent but decided to remain with Utah after spending the first two seasons of his career in Salt Lake City. Evans, 24, averaged 2.1 PPG and 1.7 RPG in 29 games during the 2012 season. The former second-round pick won the 2012 NBA Slam Dunk Contest during All-Star Weekend in Orlando.

Bucks Sign Doron Lamb

The Bucks have signed second-round pick Doron Lamb, according to the Bucks' PR Twitter feed, which attached of Lamb signing his contract.

Lamb was the 42nd-overall pick in the 2012 draft, and will likely receive the rookie minimum from Milwaukee. According to Charles F. Gardner of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel (Twitter link), the deal is for three years, though I would guess it's mostly non-guaranteed.

Dwight Howard Rumors: Wednesday

In yesterday's round of Dwight Howard rumors, we learned that the Cavaliers had pulled out of the complicated four-team talks that included the Nets and Magic. The Nets are still in the mix for Howard, but are focusing more on one-on-one talks with Orlando now. Meanwhile, the Magic continue to talk with other teams, including the Rockets, Lakers, and Hawks, about a variety of trade scenarios involving the star center. What will today bring? We'll track the latest right here….

  • According to SI.com's Sam Amick, the Magic could simply let the Nets fall out of the race for Howard and seek another trade partner. Amick adds that the Rockets have been calling around looking for a taker for Luis Scola, in an effort to allow the Magic to clear more cap space in a Howard deal.
  • Among the Nets' reasons for accelerating the Howard talks: They're concerned that the Trail Blazers will step in and sign Brook Lopez to an offer sheet after missing out on Roy Hibbert, tweets ESPN.com's Marc Stein. The Rockets represent another threat to the Nets if their offer sheet for Omer Asik is matched, adds ESPN.com's Chad Ford (via Twitter).

The Nuggets have officially signed first-round pick Evan Fournier to a rookie scale contract, according to a team release. As the 20th overall pick, Fournier is eligible to sign for a first-year salary of up to about $1.36MM.
