Community Shootaround: Orlando Magic

The Magic made several moves over the course of the offseason suggesting they were hopeful to compete for a playoff bid as early as this season. Five games below .500 mid-way through December, however, it’s clear that they may still have some work to do.

With December 15th fast approaching – the first day that offseason free agent signings are eligible to be traded – speculation has picked up that the club could make a move to add more offense. As discussed earlier this month, the Magic rank 29th in points per possession and could benefit from the addition of a scorer or two.

If a deal is in the cards for Orlando, could Mario Hezonja be a part of the outgoing package as implied by implied by Marc Stein? The club also holds a handful of expiring contracts that could similarly appeal to teams looking to make something happen, including summer acquisitions Serge Ibaka and Jeff Green.

Additionally, let’s not forget the criticism the franchise’s front office faced when they added Ibaka and Bismack Biyombo to a reasonably healthy front court that already included Nikola Vucevic.

Does something have to give if the Magic hope to turn things around?

Orlando has done some really weird stuff since the trade dealing last year…their rotation doesn’t make much sense, and you could easily see it coming when they signed Biyombo, traded for Ibaka, but kept Vucevic. Honestly don’t know what they’re trying to do anymore. And if Hezonja had any value left, he would have shown it for Orlando, who desperately needs someone at his position

They are in a bad spot. Somewhat forced to play guys that they are paying big dollars to show they are worth what the organization is paying them, but at the expense of some other guys like Aaron Gordon. Gotta dump a big, just silly to have so many. The only one that they will drop is vus and that may be a good thing for the franchise as a whole.

  3. I think a deal centering around Allen Crabbe and Serge Ibaka would be beneficial for both teams.

    • I don’t think the magic would be willing to move ibaka after paying such a high price for him. Vucevic for crabbe seems more realistic

  4. I wouldn’t mind picking up a Derrick Rose or Patty Mills and moving on from Elfrid.

Tracy McGrady joked on tv that he could make this roster, and give them like 15 minutes a night…honestly, they should call him. They could use some help on the wing. Even now, I bet he could give them those 15 minutes and score like 10 a night. Dead serious

  6. Honestly Herzonja for Ben McLemore could be a good trade. Clippers should be interested as well Bulls for this guy, he’s athletic and can shoot the three. Don’t understand Vucevic is on the team when they signed Biyombo and traded for Ibaka. I think Serge should play some more 5, he’s a talented player but his touches have gone down. Either use him or trade him
