Bulls Claim David Nwaba Off Waivers From Lakers

The Bulls have claimed shooting guard David Nwaba off waivers from the Lakers, according to Shams Charania of The Vertical (via Twitter). The Lakers waived Nwaba on Wednesday as a precursor to completing a deal with Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.

The 24-year-old Nwaba made his NBA debut with the Lakers in 2016/17 and earned himself a permanent roster spot after a strong showing following two 10-day contracts. While Los Angeles picked up Nwaba’s option for 2017/18, his salary remained non-guaranteed, giving the team the flexibility to create additional cap space.

Nwaba posted solid numbers in his 20-game cameo with the Lakers, averaging 6.0 PPG and 3.2 RPG in 19.8 minutes per game. The Lakers were intrigued by Nwaba’s development and defensive capabilities but understood he would likely be claimed off waivers, per Charania’s report.

Wow, the Bulls actually making a move that makes sense?? Am I dreaming??

I’m also suprised they actually signed Blakeney to a two-way deal…It almost made too much sense for them not to sign him..

Now, they just need to cut bait with Payne, and go out there and compete for Michael Porter Jr. lol

I know. It’s surprising that they have actually done something. So uncharacteristic of GarPax!

My guess formans wings have been clipped and he will get axed before end of 2017? Otherwise like u said these moves make too much sense for lemming leader Forman to be behind them:)

Looks like RealGM’s transaction log has Nwaba clearing waivers prior to signing with Chicago. I wonder if they signed him to a new deal rather than claiming him off waivers and inheriting his previous deal (1 year, non-guaranteed) that he was signed to with the Lakers.

RealGM also had him listed as clearing waivers at about noon today, even though it can’t actually happen until 5:00 ET. So not sure that was accurate — clearing waivers is the one thing I don’t entirely trust in that log.
