10:20pm: The initial diagnosis is that Cousins has torn his Achilles, Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports tweets.
9:59pm: There’s significant fear within the Pelicans organization that big man DeMarcus Cousins has seriously injured his Achilles, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN tweets.
Per TNT’s David Aldridge, the forward will undergo an MRI to determine the severity of the injury.
Cousins went down holding the area in the final minute of the team’s Friday night contest and needed to be supported into the locker room.
In the aforementioned tweet, Wojnarowski adds that a source told him it “does not look good”.

Every time something starts going well for him, something bad happens. Like Mike Malone getting fired and now this. Really hope he can come back at full strength, the Pels looked really good as of late.

Yup 3-5 in the Finals, let Iguodala,Parker,KD,Kawhi, and Dirk get Finals MVP over him(yet he is better then Jordan). Only plays 3 quarters of a game and does nothing but disappear in 4th quarters. Checks out of games even though they are within reach, 8 points in a NBA Finals. Curry put him in a smoothie in the 2017 Finals yet he is an all-around defender. I could keep going just let me know.

“Let Iguodala and KD get the Finals MVP over him.” Hmmm because LeBron voluntarily gave up the MVP to them even though his numbers were better. Had nothing to do with the fact that the Finals MVP often goes to a guy on the team who wins the Finals. Also, Curry puts everyone through the blender. There’s very few players who haven’t been put on a highlight reel by Curry.

If they were smartly managed, they would do it. I would hate losing Tatum and Brown, but know it’s going to cost a lot.
And the Celtics wouldn’t offer Tatum and Brown. Best case scenario would be the Celtics offering one of the two, but they definitely wouldn’t offer both and New Orleans shouldn’t make the deal unless both are offered.
Idk man if you get that 1st from SAC/LAL, Tatum or Brown, and like Terry Rozier or something, it’s worth looking into. Better than having him walk for nothing, you’d get probably a lottery pick plus a core player now that you know you’re not competing with Boogie out
You don’t know what will happen. They could still compete. Boogie is great, but not irreplaceable. They could make a deal for Greg Monroe or Willy Hernangomez and have a slight step down, but not be out of it by any means.

Well I meant Monroe, but I was trying to think of a second center that was on the market. Obviously he is huge step down, but still could occupy the minutes at center for a lower tiered playoff team.
Wow! That sucks big time! I feel terrible for the guy, he’s having a heck of a year..best year of his career and they are winning for the first time in his career. Bad news for the Pelicans too who might lose the guy to Free Agency and now you don’t even get to finish out the year with him and see if they can make the playoffs with him. All around terrible news. Hope he fully recovers and recovers as fast as possible. Hire Cousins fans.
Not only that, but Boogie is probably out quite a bit of money. Nobody is going to be signing him for max money now. Plus even if he signs a make good deal, a torn Achilles is not exactly a guarantee to come back from. This could really be the end of his career, at least the superstar part of it. Sad all around.
At least they did not give up too much for this experiment. Buddy is so so. Evans the only legit player in that trade. Maybe he ends up signing a one year deal now w the Pels? if anything it makes DJ and Whiteside a bit more expensive.
Sucks for Boogie especially with a payday coming his way. But the Pelicans injury bug strikes again…the team has lost a major rotation player every year for the past couple of seasons. Part of that had to do with having injury prone players (Eric Gordon, Jrue Holiday) but even relatively healthy players seem to get hurt there.
One of my favorite players, just saw him here in Charlotte the other night. Prayers up to Boogie!
