Lack Of Confidence In Zubac Led Lakers To Sign Chandler

The Lakers added Tyson Chandler today in a move that was made in part because the team’s lack of confidence in former second-round pick Ivica Zubac, Tania Ganguli of The Los Angeles Times reports.

Zubac has had promising appearances as a Laker, like a game against Portland last week in which he had nine points and eight rebounds. Still, Los Angeles is giving up 12.7 offensive rebounds per game this year, a figure that ranks near the bottom of the league. The lack of frontcourt depth along with Zubac’s inconsistency plays a part in the struggles.

Zubac understands that he’ll see less playing time with the addition of Chandler. “That’s up to coaches but I’m playing my hardest,” Zubac said. “I’m trying to grab all the boards. We had some problems with offensive rebounds and second-chance points in the last couple of games. That’s my main focus, just to get those defensive boards.”

Chandler is expected to make his debut for the Lakers on Wednesday against the Timberwolves,  Jordan Schultz of reports (Twitter link).

  1. No, he’s a second round pick who’s career per 36 is 16 and 10.5. Lakers have received more out of him than many other second rounders.

Lebrons lack of patience is going to ruin the development of the young core in LA.

Also Lebrons lack of patience will have the majority of that young core in different jerseys.

    • Man what does LeBron have to do to satisfy you guys? He willingly goes to a young, superstar lacking squad and has played well with little griping and all everyone can talk about is an inevitable explosion of the roster. 10 games in and the Lakers have really had one bad game. Let them grow

The guy goes to a young team and expects them to be a championship level squad just a month into the season. That is the type of stuff that harms the development of young players.

I think that the signing of Tyson Chandler is a no brainer he will definitely help the lakers. I like zubac but he’s not consistent you never know what you’ll get with him. I know that Tyson Chandler isn’t a young man anymore but he will be more dependable.

  4. Zubac’s has talent but needs to hit the weight room hard. He’s still young and developing.
