LeBron James, who had already been ruled out of today’s game in Atlanta, has been sent back to Los Angeles to undergo treatment on his left knee, tweets Dave McMenamin of ESPN.
“As long as the swelling is there, he is going to be out,” Lakers coach Frank Vogel said in a pre-game meeting with reporters.
James underwent an MRI on the knee, but all it showed was swelling, according to Kyle Goon of The Orange County Register (Twitter link).
James has missed L.A.’s past two games with what the team is calling “left knee soreness/effusion.” After today, the Lakers don’t play again until Wednesday night when they host Portland.
I’m gonna legit be sad when this guy retires. Watching him play basketball has been an awesome treat for 20yrs. There’s obv a great deal of talent in the league rn & Giannis especially is incredible to watch… but Bron is on a different level from any other basketball player I’ve ever seen
That being said I’m extremely happy he’s not playing today. He’s owned the Hawks more than any other team, especially in the playoffs… 12-0 vs Atl in the postseason smh

Vogel and Lakers are partly to blame for this. They played LeBron way too many minutes all season. A old body can not take the abuse of being over worked. He shouldn’t play more than 32 minutes a game. Vogel also needs to play his bench a lot more.
LeBron also has a TON of mileage on his body. A person can be in incredible shape, but eventually the tendons and ligaments start to wear down.
The knee takes the most stress on your body at that age. Tendons and ligaments do not stretch as much the older you get.

When is LeBron’s kid eligible for the draft?
2 or 3 years I think. He might be able to graduate early and re class, or there could be changes in the upcoming CBA. I think his new contract extension expires the year Bronny is eligible. This makes sense since Bron couldnt guarantee that LAL will have the right pick to draft him especially if he trends towards the top. Since Bron is a FA he could sign with the team that drafts him since I think he said he wanted to play alongside him not against him.

It’s close to over for him now. He’s never really broken down before but this is a “body breaking down” injury, not a freak thing. Amazing that a body that big and heavy operating at those levels of torque and other forces has lasted this long.
