The Knicks and undrafted free agent guard Jean Montero have reached an agreement on an Exhibit 10 contract, a source tells Jonathan Givony of ESPN (Twitter link).
An Exhibit 10 deal is a one-year, minimum-salary contract that counts toward a team’s 20-man offseason roster limit, but doesn’t count against the cap unless the player makes the regular season roster. Although it’s not guaranteed, a player on an Exhibit 10 contract can earn a bonus of up to $50K if he’s waived and then joins his team’s G League affiliate.
Montero, who will turn 19 in July, began his professional career with Gran Canaria in Spain and played for the new Overtime Elite program in 2021/22. The Dominican combo guard is considered a talented scorer and has also exhibited creativity as a passer, according to Givony, who writes in his scouting report that the youngster’s inconsistent defense is a concern.
Montero was the No. 4 prospect on ESPN’s list of players who went undrafted on Thursday night.
Looking to me like NYK is well on their way to full tank mode next season & I think it’s a smart move. They have alot of young guys that they should just let loose. Trade Randle for an expiring contract & future picks. Let RJ lead Obi, IQ, Cam, JSims & the other youngsters. They probably won’t be the worst team in the East but probably won’t make playoffs either. I’m sure Thibs won’t like it but at the end of the day it’s the smart move.. Montero & Duece should both get alot of pt at summer league. Whichever 1 of those guys that plays better should have the upper hand coming into training camp. And whoever has the upper hand after preseason should be Tyus Jones’ backup at pg going into next season. Or pass on Tyus & make Montero, IQ & Duece battle it out for the starting pg job

Wonder if Knick AL committed suicide after last night. Then I thought , well since they brought back Thibs, Why bother drafting any young talent? Would be a waste anyway.
Best part of the draft was watching Stephen A lose his mind on the Knicks trading away their pick and getting no solid player at all.
No idea what the Knicks are doing. Unless they want to try for Lavine, Beal or Kyrie(all unlikely). With the exception of Ayton. No one else is worth being that aggressive for.
