With Scoot Henderson ranked second or third in nearly every mock draft, the G League Ignite star only plans two workouts during the pre-draft process, tweets Sean Highkin of The Rose Garden Report.
Henderson was in Portland on Saturday to show off the skills that have made him one of the most talked-about prospects in this year’s class. The Trail Blazers hold the third pick and appear to be the most likely destination for Henderson if speculation about Brandon Miller going to Charlotte at No. 2 is correct. There’s been plenty of conjecture that Portland may trade the pick for veteran help, but some sources believe the team would be comfortable adding another young player.
Henderson hasn’t scheduled a session with the Hornets yet, but he told Casey Holdahl of NBA.com that he expects to work out for them at some point before the June 22 draft. He also talked about what he’ll bring to the team that selects him.
“You always want a guy like me, that dog mentality,” Henderson said. “Just my personality, the culture I bring to the locker room. I’m a great leader, I’ll tell what’s up and I can do everything on the floor. I can do everything on the floor. I’m going to go out there and give my 110 percent every day. And that’s the thing about me: I’m very consistent in effort. Even if it’s not there, I just try to even it out the next game, try to get right to it. Give it a 120 if I didn’t give it 110 the last game.”
There’s more draft news to pass along:
- Belmont’s Ben Sheppard is quickly moving up draft boards, tweets Jonathan Wasserman of Bleacher Report. Wasserman cites a “boom of interest” in the senior guard after his performance at the draft combine. Sheppard has already worked out for the Hawks and Jazz, according to Wasserman, and he has upcoming sessions with the Pelicans and Warriors.
- The Wizards hosted Kansas State guard Markquis Nowell, one of the stars of the NCAA Tournament, at a six-player workout on Saturday, tweets Chase Hughes of NBC Sports Washington. Joining him were Providence’s Ed Croswell, Marshall’s Taevion Kinsey, South Alabama’s Isaiah Moore, LSU’s K.J. Williams and George Washington’s Brendan Adams, who was a late replacement for Missouri’s D’Moi Hodge (Twitter link).
- North Carolina’s Leaky Black, Texas’ Marcus Carr, Houston’s Marcus Sasser, Notre Dame’s Nate Laszewski, Iowa State’s Osun Osunniyi and Clemson’s Hunter Tyson worked out for the Hornets on Saturday (Twitter link).
- Recent Magic workouts included Wichita State’s Craig Porter Jr. (Twitter link) and Virginia’s Armaan Franklin (Twitter link).
- The Warriors have scheduled a pre-draft workout for Monday featuring Duke’s Dereck Lively II, Kansas’ Jalen Wilson, Florida’s Colin Castleton, Kansas State’s Keyontae Johnson and Creighton’s Arthur Kaluma, tweets Anthony Slater of The Athletic.
Scoot Henderson is going to be a bust, I can feel it. Miller is going to have high potential but I think hes going to have similar problems as Ja as it relates to his image/ life choices. Wemby I think is overhyped. Will he be an all star? Yes I believe that. Will he be a top 5 player in the game? No. To me he doesn’t have that competative fire in his game, atleast not yet
You can feel it huh ….. you should see a doctor. Cause it must be terminal …..
Scoot Henderson will be the next great PG.
0-3 bro. Unless Wemby suffers from a major injury he’s going to be great. You’re lumping Miller in with Morant. Miller got caught up in stuff but just like Morant they’re both young and should grow out of it. Everyone makes mistakes. Scoot’s not your prototypical modern PG as he doesn’t have a jumper but he’s young and he has the right attitude so he’ll get better.
No he won’t.
Why would Warriors want Lively. They just gave away next great Center ……. hilarious
Marcus Sasser is going to make some team very happy……
Miller is the right fit in Charlotte. They just better do their work about his personal life.
There are some nice players in this 1st rd. Just have to do your work developing the talent. Most are 19 yr olds.
The Warriors didn’t give away the next great center. Wiseman ain’t it. The next great center will be drafted by San Antonio.
Yeah I guess Warriors should have drafted Wembayamba then….. catch up lol.
Scoot Henderson got vision. He runs a team and plays D. He’s already NBA size. So he will score. His first step is as tight as anyone’s. He’s a mix of CP3 and Rose. So it makes him more a playmaker. He’s athletic enough to be a very good scorer. His shot is not there yet. But it will get there. He’s got good form. And can get loose off the dribble. He will learn to use picks to free up his shot too.
I watch players and use my own eyes. I don’t need scouts or talking heads to tell me who’s good. But I do read what they say. And look for it in their game. Henderson will be an all star sooner than Wembanyama. Wembayamba still needs girth and strength. He will need to get stronger to compete. This ain’t the French leagues. Lucky for him. He’s going to be with the right coach. I don’t see him making a major impact next yr. It’s going to take a few yrs. As a rim protector he can make a major impact.
Wiseman last yr per 36 mins. Was a 18 pts and 12 reb Center. At 21 yrs old. I’d say that’s getting there to great. You’d think you’d learn by now.
I hear you Al on Wiseman and I’m so disappointed it didn’t work out for the Warriors. He’s everything athletically and physically. 10 out of 10 run, jump, shoot, lateral, etc.
It’s between the ears and there’s been a bunch of guys like that, physically awesome, yet can’t get it together on where to be and when to be there. Quick decisions and all this especially on defense.
The pick and roll is easy, getting an offensive rebound is easy, but on defense.. when do you help, when do you sag, when do you flash to the cutter or stay with your own man who will probably get the offensive rebound if you help?
I think that’s his downfall but by staying in the league learning from the coaches he’ll be a real good player over time. What I love about him is he never complains, never whines, and he works hard. Some of the busts of the past don’t have that.
But as you mention Al, he’s getting there. And what more can you ask for from a kid?
I don’t see why Warriors would want Jalen Wilson. His defensive ratings are horrible. Casleton looks more like the center that can progress quicker since he is more ready for NBA.
Heat will take Wiseman, eventually transition Bam to forward, free safety on D…. Wiseman needs confidence, can shoot 3… Heat too small, needs size…. He’ll fit in….
You’re probably right. I don’t see the Pistons one to keep both young Bigs.
I’d much rather go to Portland than to Charlotte if I was Scoot…
Charlotte is a true dumspter fire…
Nearly every other team could take on a top 3 player from this draft and have a better year… But Charlotte…
Agreed. But I sure hope lamelo can get a handle on his health. He’s one of the few bright spots to get excited about in charlotte.
I like Kinsey and kj Williams. Is leaky Black a good defensive player?
As well as keynote Johnson
I think that the Orlando Magic will strike gold (again)in this upcoming nba draft, whether is with one of the Thompson twins, Cam Whitmore, Jarace Walker or Taylor Hendricks; there is alot talent after the big three and Orlando is right there with the #6 pick waiting for one of them to fall on their arms. Besides Orlando also have the 11th pick which they can use or trade it for something perhaps others picks or/and any combination of a veteran player and a pick. Hope this Orlando Magic FO don’t mess up this time
Scoot is going to be the second best Blazer ever with the last name Henderson behind Blazers legend Gerald Henderson Jr.
