2:33pm: Washington’s contract is official, the Suns announced (via Twitter).
10:12am: Free agent guard TyTy Washington will sign a two-way contract with the Suns, agent Kevin Bradbury of Lift Sports tells ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski (Twitter link).
Washington, 22, appeared in 11 games with Milwaukee last season on a two-way deal, averaging 1.3 PPG in 5.1 minutes per night. He spent much of the season in the G League with the Wisconsin Herd.
Washington was a first-round selection out of Kentucky in the 2022 draft, taken by Houston with the 29th pick. He was limited to 31 games as a rookie while also splitting time in the G League.
The Rockets shipped Washington to Atlanta last summer as part of a complex five-team deal. Four days later, the Hawks moved him to Memphis, which eventually waived him, and he signed with the Bucks in late August.
The addition of Washington will fill Phoenix’s last open two-way slot. Collin Gillespie and Jalen Bridges were signed to two-way deals last month.
Wats up with Ty Ty. Should be further along.
It’s hard for guards to stay in the NBA. He doesn’t shoot the 3 consistently or at volume yet; more midrange. He needs to be in the right situation…like this, though he is basically super depth.
I don’t think they expected to puck into Tyus Jones either, but now they kind of have a lot of guards, and could use bigs
THE REASON WHY THE “G-LEAGUE” HAS RUINED THE NBA:
IT ALLOWS RANDOM’S LIKE THIS “TyTy” GET SIGNED BUT VETERANS WE’VE ALWAYS LIKED AND KNOW ABOUT LIKE DWIGHT HOWARD AND KYLE KORVER AND TY LAWSON GET STUCK IN EUROPE OR ASIA OR FREE AGENCY.
Turn your caps lock off and shut up. He’s on a two-way, genius. Korver has been retired for 3 years, and Ty Lawson sucks.
Surely you can see that TyTy is an improvement over Ty. Twice as good, in fact
@Stableford. Not sure if this is a legit post.
Another way of looking at it:
The experienced players often already have an “in”.
They can come in, work out for a team, and also have player contacts that a team can stay updated with.
G league allows for development, and recent performance of potential.
Some players take longer to develop. And some teams find a diamond in the rough.
MIA was good at this. BKL also at one point.
Teams are about finding the best players, sometimes at lowest cost. Like most businesses.
Playing your favorite player is not a concern.
None those guys can play in the league anymore. Howard old and slow, Korver retired years ago but no defense, Lawson is small and old.
Isiah Thomas is another old and really small. Phx did pick him up last year but no playoff time.
Cousins hurt too often lost that athletic ability, would not play in playoffs.
TRUTH
Silver doesn’t like veterans in the league. He wants everyone till the last man launching 3s, running everywhere, less FT shots, no dribbling violations, defense played with their eyes (more defense is played when they are hugging and kisses at the beginning and end of games, we all rich)
Today’s game is built for 12 year olds or obvious gambling bets.
Luke, crack is bad for you
Should Ty Ty not produce it will be Bye Bye.
