Kings guard Malik Monk said the team would hold a meeting before Wednesday’s game in Minnesota. Sacramento enters the contest saddled with a four-game losing streak.
“We’re gonna say something,” Monk told Jason Anderson of the Sacramento Bee. “I feel like we always say something after every loss, so (Tuesday) we’ll probably say something when we get to Minnesota.”
Monk’s comments came after the Kings gave up 130 points to Oklahoma City on Monday.
Monk said the team’s veterans need to speak up, specifically mentioning De’Aaron Fox, DeMar DeRozan and Domantas Sabonis.
“I feel like we’ve got a veteran team now with a few young guys, so we know how to turn it around,” Monk said. “Domas is going to say a few things, I’m going to say a few things, Fox will say a few things and DeMar will say a few things. We’ve got to turn it around quick, though.”
We have more from the Pacific Division:
- Speaking of DeRozan, he won’t suit up on Wednesday. He experienced lower back muscle inflammation following Sunday’s game, Anderson tweets. DeRozan, noted for his durability, will be missing his fourth game this season.
- Warriors star Stephen Curry is listed as questionable for Wednesday’s game against OKC due to bilateral patellofemoral pain — patella soreness in both knees, The Athletic’s Anthony Slater tweets. Jonathan Kuminga, who participated in Tuesday’s practice, is also listed as questionable due to illness.
- The Clippers had a five-game winning streak snapped by Boston on Monday but they’re still three games above .500. James Harden said good chemistry has led to their success, despite the absence of Kawhi Leonard. “We’re coming around, and we’re understanding who we are,” Harden told Law Murray of The Athletic. “Understanding that in order for us to have a chance at anything, we know we have to do it every single night. And that’s the most exciting part. And then, one thing about this team, we’re all happy for each other. Literally, it can be anybody’s night, on any given night. Nobody’s going to be upset; everybody’s going to be happy for each other. And things aren’t always going to be perfect to win games. But even when we lose, we’re still happy for each other. Good things will happen most of the time.”
- Jordan Miller, a 2023 second-round pick, has received steady playing time over the last six Clippers games due to injuries. The two-way player has averaged 8.2 points per game during that stretch. “I’m trying to leave a good impression because I don’t know what it’s going to look like when (Norman Powell) gets back,” Miller told Janis Carr of the Orange County Register. “But they can see that I’m a solid player, and if anything ever goes wrong (injuries) or if we need a spark, Coach will be more confident in me moving forward versus me not playing.”
Curry injury is fake, designed to cover for Kerr as to why he sat him as an 18 point lead shrunk to zero. Kerr is so bad at this, he really wants to win with his worst players for some reason smh
Thought you were all behind the “strength in numbers” crap?
He saving face for tomorrow
Davey just regurgitates whatever he sees online to try and get people to think he knows what he is talking about. A desperate ploy for attention.
Davey is just making up a lame excuse. Curry been fighting off injuries for the last few games. They lost not because Curry sat but because teams been double team Curry and the other players are not stepping up.
Agreed. Buddy Hield going ice-cold was a bigger factor in that loss than Curry having to sit. The Warriors were -4 in Curry’s minutes regardless, and that was a factor of the rest of the team being terrible. Can’t have a superstar carry you at all times, especially against an objectively worse team with their best defender sidelined. Only Wiggins and Moody played well outside of Steph.
Waters also was really bad. Two bad turnovers (one resulting in a wide open dunk, the other in a turnover and foul that led to two points) and three of his four fouls led to points off free throws directly, with all of them being really obvious. So he functionally gave up ten zero-effort points just by playing sloppy.
the other problem is many warriors rely too much on Curry bailing them out. Curry being double teamed means somebody is wide open so take the shot. Throwing to Curry when he is double teamed is a turn over waiting to happen.
At the risk of offending the Kerr apologists, his infatuation with Watters is costing the team wins. How does Moses Moody score 15 points in the first half, and then get only 5 minutes in the second half, esp. when Watters is obviously playing poorly.
As EonADS says, Watters was bad against Brooklyn. In fact he’s been bad as a starter, period. In his 7 starts, Watters’ splits are awful: 23 MPG , 38 FG%, 7 PTS. And 5 of those games, including the last 3, were against injury depleted, non-playoff teams.
Lindy Watters is NOT, as Kerr continues to state, “one of our best players”. He’s never been a rotation player, as proven by 3 years at OKC. Watters is a great shooter, an 10-14th best player on a good team.
And this isn’t a case of investing in a young player. Watters, 27 yrs old, is an unrestricted free agent at the end of this year. Meanwhile, the development of Moody, Podz, and Kuminga is curtailed by a lack of playing time.
i must agree on that. Watters is a bench player. I don’t get why he starts him when he has not shown he makes the starting team better. I don’t get why Payton is not in there when a PG is driving to the basket over and over.
Part of it for Moody is, as GaryWarriorsRedSox is quick to point out, the steep lack of hustle. He’s VERY slow to react on some plays. It’s one thing to have a lack of focus in a blowout or when you’re really tired, but Moody’s lack of urgency is clear and obvious. It’s clear Kerr doesn’t want him starting until he hustles.
Podz and Kuminga both play worse alongside Curry than otherwise, so they pretty much can’t start.
Also it’s just Waters. Only one T.
EonADS, agreed on the fact that Moody will never fit Kerr’s ideal as a motion offense, quick read-and-react, create-for-others, off-guard. (FWIW, I think it’s more about Moody stopping to look for his own shot than being slow to react, but whatever.).
You can’t get blood from a turnip. Watters’ skillset may fit in concept, but he’ll never be good enough.
Last season, we started to play Podz and Kuminga (along with TJD) more heavily in late January, leading to the 2nd best record in the league for the remainder of the schedule. We may have been at our very best with DeAnthony Melton, but replacing Melton with Lindy Watters and pushing Podz, Kuminga, and Moody to the rear turns us into a play-in team at best.
We all keep forgetting you’ve got more rings than Kerr Davey. Warriors schedule has been extremely friendly thus far too. Same goes for the Cavs.
At this point, we have to conclude that Davey J is either a Russian AI bot or severally emotionally disturbed. Does anyone believe that Draymond, or Curry, would just sit and watch Kerr tank the season without saying a word. If Kerr is such a bad coach, you would think that Draymond would say something after a decade. I mean, has Dray ever been quiet or passive.
Too emotional and responsive for a bot.
G74- First sentence….delete either, replace or with and.
Steve Kerr can be very questionable when it comes to playing time and benching players when hot… He needs to be looked into for inside betting scandals… But…he was a great shooter for the bulls and has been overall a great coach for warriors so I guess there is ups and downs, pros and cons…I just wander if the players ever question the coaches over some of these horrible Gametime choices made, or is it swept under the rug
Wait…What? Are you accusing Kerr trowing games
Wait…What? You are accusing Kerr of throwing games?
Everyone loves to hate on the under-appreciated role player and never him them their flowers.
Harrison Barnes
Kings have been bad this year and that’s with DeAaron Fox playing his best basketball ever. Sabonis has had some huge performances. Yes Murray is having a slump and Monk has been cold but it’s been the Barnes absence which has really made the difference. He was such a huge part of their team and culture off the court. From clips I’ve seen he would lead bonding events and end up paying for a lot. On the court he got no credit and was a solid 3 and D forward. He fitted perfectly with Murray as they could swap between SF and PF.
Since he’s left they have fallen apart abit and look how good the Spurs have been with him and CP3 there. Kings tried to buy success bring in DeMare and paying the more exciting Monk but it’s so far backfired.
Teams need role players, no ego, hard working, cheaper contracts, culture building, leadership, depth all these little things which the fans don’t appreciate.
Always been a Barnes fan and will confuse to be
Pretty good point. Yes I guess the Steady Hand role player is pretty important. You can count on certain numbers from them, certain professionalism, and they go about their business.
Barnes is a solid player. Reminds me of Wiggins lite. He doesn’t get the praise he deserves. Plays good defense and gets you 16 points a game. Kings lack defense is why they struggle so much. Sabonis and Fox are offense players. Not much of a defense out of them.
@arc89 Barnes is better than Wiggins and always has been. Wiggins has no seasons that touch Barnes’ 2014-15 season.
It was time for Barnes to go, he would disappear for them and they still ranked in the bottom of defense with him.
I am sure they would have kept him if they could have fooled a team into taking Huerter instead.
Sure, Barnes is a great teammate and a positive influence on the Spurs younger players, but, at 32 years old, he’s the definition of “mediocre”.
As a starter in SAC last year, he scored 12 pts in 30 mpg. This year for the Spurs, it’s 11 mpg for the same minutes. His athleticism is now below average. Barnes is no longer worth $18M/yr, and certainly is not a starter on a team with Championship aspirations like SAC.
This is exactly what I’m talking about it’s all about numbers to determine if you’re good. Not about team results, locker room effect, so on and so on.
This team was better last year with Barnes on it and without DeRozan and that’s got nothing to do with athleticism, points per game, or anything. It’s because Barnes played his role on the court and off the court which had a big affect on his team mates.
he did just win player of the week. and he’s from iowa, playing with dougie mcbuckets back in high school. those two just missed out playing together too for either team in the big league lol.
I 100% agree. Always missed Harry B. Like KD and JaVale, he will never play under Kerr again, they all hate him. Hmm almost like a pattern…
Simmons>Russ, I am an admirer of Harrison Barnes as a person, don’t get me wrong
But do you really believe that the missing “locker-room effect” of Harrison Barnes is responsible for the Kings losing 4 out of their first 18 games? Does that mean they lose an extra 20 games for the entire season?
BTW, Demar Derozan is also one of the most respected teammates in the league, loved by coaches. So, Barnes’ wasn’t replaced with a negative.
