The 2025 NBA free agent point guard class features three veterans who have earned maximum-salary contracts and have combined to make 21 All-Star teams. And while all three of those players will be among the best options available at the position this offseason, the point guard who signs the most lucrative long-term contract may be a player who has never been named an All-Star or averaged more than 17 points per game.
Let's take a closer look at this summer's free agent point guards, as we kick off our breakdown of the 2025 free agent class by position.
Interesting to see Simmons lumped in with the point guards. I get why, but he’s been playing basically a backup small-ball 5 for the Clips since joining them
His “position” sorta depends on which players are next to him — the Clippers would have a hard time playing him alongside a center since they don’t really have any centers who stretch the floor, but another team might be able to do it.
A lot of these position designations are pretty arbitrary anyway, which will only become more blatant in the next few groupings (not much difference between a lot of “shooting guards” and “small forwards” these days, for instance).
