Quinten Post went from a second-round rookie on a two-way contract to a regular contributor on a standard deal this season with Warriors. Post, who only played six minutes in the Game 1 win over Minnesota on Tuesday, is grateful for how his rookie campaign unfolded.
“It’s always a bunch of factors combined. Obviously, you need to have self-belief,” he told Mark Medina of Sportskeeda. “Even when I was in the G League, I had this belief in myself that this would work out. I had a lot of things that I did in the best of my career so far.
Then you just need an opportunity. They were struggling a little bit during the regular season. I’m very grateful because coach (Steve Kerr) let me play through some mistakes, especially early on. I definitely didn’t play perfect. It wasn’t like I came out and was a game changer at all. That wasn’t the case at all. But he let me play through some mistakes. Then I think Jimmy being traded to us also helped me out.”
We have more from the Pacific Division:
- Bobby Jackson is returning to the Kings coaching staff as an assistant to Doug Christie, radio reporter Sean Cunningham tweets. Jackson, who has been on the Sixers‘ staff for the past two seasons, was previously the head coach of the NBA G League’s Stockton Kings for two seasons.
- Missouri guard Tamar Bates, Florida center Rueben Chinyelu, Georgia guard Silas Demary, Villanova guard Wooga Poplar and Kentucky center Amari Williams were among the draft prospects who worked for the Kings on Monday, Jason Anderson of the Sacramento Bee writes. Williams is ranked 59th on ESPN’s top-100 list. Demary transferred to UConn but is testing the draft waters.
- Clippers president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank will focus on adding frontcourt help – especially at the center position – and younger players this offseason, according to Janis Carr of the Orange County Register. “I think we need to add (players),” Frank said. “The West is a bear. It doesn’t get easier. It gets harder because each of these teams that either were playing or are currently playing – look at their top players, they are studs, they’re great players, some are in their prime, some are pre-primed, some are also comparable ages to our guys.”
- Lakers coach J.J. Redick believes certain members of the team need to do a better job of conditioning and improving their stamina, according to Khobi Price of the Orange County Register. “I’ll start with the offseason and the work that’s required in an offseason to be in championship shape,” he said. “And we have a ways to go as a roster. And certainly, there are individuals that were in phenomenal shape. There’s certainly other ones that could have been in better shape. That’s where my mind goes immediately is we have to get in championship shape.”
“I’m very grateful because coach(Steve Kerr) let me play through some mistakes, especially early on. ”
Guess Kerr actually can coach guys who are young? Who knew?
…he’s one of the greatest basketball coaches ever. Not sure how that’s a controversial opinion.
Oh I’m not disagreeing with you, but there’s a certain guy in here who keeps saying Replace Kerr and Warriors win the next 5 titles….just like that.
I think he’s a really good 3rd quarter coach. Many of those 3rd quarters during the 2015-2019 run, he was great in adjusting and adapting. I give him credit for this dynasty, unlike others.
People who criticize Kerr’s handling of young players forget a few things. Post had 3 or 4 years of college. Wiseman had none. It is hard to play a young big and defend an unexpected title at the same time. Kuminga played the GLeague Ignite which was kind of a joke.
JJ that is your fault if uyour team is not in shape and nobopdy’s else fault. You are the coach but that being said JJ its your job to have a 2nd team that can give your starters a rest. LeBron is 40 Y O so if you expect him to do 40 plus minutes that is your fault having no faith in your bench.
Agree to an extent. Not playing the bench at all was a massive mistake. But Luka not being in shape after less than half a season with the Lakers isn’t Redick’s doing. And I think Redick’s commentary was clearly a veiled message to Luka. “There is a such thing as high-level fitness (championship fitness per JJ), and you’re not there, and you need to be to win at this level.”
Lakers knew what they were getting with Luka. I doubt he will ever be in that great of fit. You must have the drive and commitment. JJ coaching style is play his starters lots of minutes. That must change to compete in the playoffs. You got to have a bench that you trust.
Imo Kerr and Warriors management. Have messed up with development of young players. Trying to win and be a playoff team. Is not best place for a rookie to grow in. Time lines will always be in conflict. Especially if you think you can work in more than one player. Which is exactly the issue in GS.
19 yr old rookies need 4-5 yrs to show their true worth. Warriors don’t have that time. That’s why Wiseman is gone. And already rumblings about Moody and Kuminga. It’s not an easy thing to work out. Knicks basically gave away Obi1 and Grimes (2nd rd picks). Imagine if we had them now. Teams that face pressure to perform now. Will always mess up with young talent. They simply are not on their time line. The pressure to win in NBA is huge…….
there are always casualties lols ……
That was Myers problem he was always picking very raw talent. They needed a lot of time to be NBA ready
Reason why Post is finding some success he was a 4 year college player. MD is a better GM since he drafts with that being known they need college players that rea closer to ready.
Myers first four draft picks were Barnes, Ezeli, Draymond and Looney. He wiffed on Wiseman but the only other high picks he had have been Kuminga and Moody which have been fine. Other picks have been picks 28 or 30 and second rounders which did produce Jordan Poole. So besides Wiseman who are you disappointed with him drafting?
2012 was when West was helping out to draft Branes, Ezeli, and Draymond. West was the one inputting who to draft until he left. In those 16 draft picks that he had he produced Looney, Poole, Santos, kuminga, and Moody. PBJ, Rollins, Evans, Wiseman, Mannion, Jessup, Smajeic, Bell, Paschal, jones, and McCaw. He gave Poole a max after 1 good year which was so over valued he had to attach a 1st rounder and PBJ, and Rollins to get rid of it.
