After acquiring Brandon Ingram at the February trade deadline, the Raptors are viewed by teams around the league as a candidate to make another major move this offseason, per ESPN’s Brian Windhorst (hat tip to RealGM).
“Toronto is one of those teams that is sitting there on the balls of its feet, which is interesting,” Windhorst said on the latest episode of the Hoop Collective podcast (YouTube link).
Eric Koreen of The Athletic added that the state of the Eastern Conference should push the Raptors to be slightly more aggressive, as the bottom of the conference is likely to be weak, especially if Giannis Antetokounmpo departs for the Western Conference.
However, Koreen adds that his instinct is that the core five Raptors, Immanuel Quickley, RJ Barrett, Scottie Barnes, Jakob Poeltl, and Brandon Ingram, will likely remain with the team heading into next season.
We have more from the Atlantic Division:
- After a season that went much worse than expected, the Sixers are faced with a multitude of questions, writes Keith Pompey of The Inquirer. The first domino is the third overall pick in the 2025 draft. If they do use the No. 3 pick, don’t expect standout trade addition Quentin Grimes‘ impending free agency to impact the selection, says Pompey, who emphasizes the need to select the best player available. Pompey writes within the same story that another lackluster year from Philadelphia could spell the end of team president Daryl Morey‘s tenure as the lead decision-maker.
- Speaking of the third pick in the 2025 draft, count Sixers star Paul George as a firm believer in Ace Bailey, Pompey writes in a separate story. Pompey reports that George has hyped up the 6’9″ wing three different times leading into the offseason. Recently, George said, “If there was no Cooper Flagg, Ace Bailey would have been an even bigger name that people would have been talking about in this draft. … I think he’s going to come into the league and make noise right away.” Carmelo Anthony and DeMarcus Cousins are two other former players who have raved about the shot-making wing, but others believe that the three-to-six or -seven range in the draft is basically interchangeable from a talent perspective.
- The Nets missed out on the Flagg sweepstakes, but they still have five picks in the top 36 of the 2025 draft. Collin Helwig of NetsDaily rounded up a list of players who have been confirmed to have worked out for the franchise, a list that doesn’t yet include Jeremiah Fears or Kon Knueppel. Colorado State’s Nique Clifford is the highest-ranked name known to have worked out for the team so far, along with Tennessee’s Chaz Lanier. Helwig notes that St. John’s Aaron Scott and Temple’s Steve Settle both worked out in Brooklyn, as did Wake Forest guard Hunter Sallis and West Virginia’s Javon Small. Finally, Helwig writes that international players Noa Essengue, Ben Saraf, and Hugo Gonzalez will not be working out for the team, as they finish their seasons overseas.
I wouldn’t let Morey make anymore decisions. Listening to him last week on sports talk radio(Philly). The dude is absolutely CLUELESS
76ers got no 1 seed in 2021
Start to decline since then
If dealing Paul George this summer, they should be able to take 6 seed next season
76ers are a better team than Pistons and Magic
What???
First, without suggesting what they deal PG, how can you claim that they’ll be better. If they trade him for picks and expiring contracts, then they’re not better off.
Second, you don’t know how available/how good Embiid will be.
Where would you upgrade if you’re the Raptors?
The unlikely ones due to compensation/rival are KD, Giannis, Booker, Brown, Jrue, KP, Trae, Garland, Allen, Zion, Bam.
Potential/more realistic guys that could be or are available… DeRozan, Sabonis, LaVine, Poole, Kuzma, Kuminga, Herro… I mean what are they willing to give up? RJ? BI? #7?
i’m most interested to see what happens with Sabonis.
Well Philly ballers Luka stayed out west after he got traded. Spurs have to actually trade for Giannis seeing that they have the best deal available among western conference teams. Raps do have enough to trade for Giannis among teams in the east. I don’t think Celtics or knicks trade for Giannis due to that apron nonsense and nets are trash regardless of what they do. Scottie Barnes, Agbaji and 4 firsts for Giannis and Raptors look like: Quickley, RJ, Ingram, Giannis, Poetl. As a starting 5. Shead, Grady, Lawson, JaKobe, Mogbo off the bench. Free agents raptors could sign: Nickel Alexander-Walker , Bol Bol.
Ingram is going to be one of those players who gets traded every other season.
He can get you 20 plus a night but he isn’t going to help your team win a lot of games. At least not as one of the main pieces. He doesn’t have that killer instinct and doesn’t seem bothered by losing.
Agreed. Throw in that him and RJ are not all too dissimilar and I don’t see how BI improves the Raptors.
Sure seems like Toronto ran in a big circle.
Van fleet, OG and siakam out
IQ, RJ and Ingram in.
I think I would rather have the first three.
@PG I agree. The first 3 were bulldogs and gamers. IQ, RJ and Ingram miss a ton of games, although RJ may just be a case of the teams draft plans as opposed to injury.
Only one they should have kept realistically was Siakam. Vanvleet would have been too expensive as he is overpaid and OG would have cost too much also. Now obviously I’d rather pay OG 30 mil than Quickley. Though Vanvleet is really paid he stays healthy and Quickley seems to already have gotten hurt quite a bit.
I see trades coming this draft. It could start with 2nd pick and Spurs. Sixers would be smart to trade down pick up a more ready player. And another asset.
Knicks don’t have a pick in first rd. Love to see them buy one and pick up a PF late first rd. Even early second round.
Sabonis, Keegan Murray and pick 42 for BI, Poelt, Ochai and pick 9th
Raptors
IQ RJ Murray Scottie Sabonis
Plus a bench with young guys Shead, Walter and Grady.
Kings then trade LaVine and DeRozan for Markeneen and Sexton
Sexton Monk BI Markeneen Poelt
Carter Ellis Ochai … Queen(draft)
Raptors have two top tier talents in Scottie and Sabonis. Plus around them some good 3 and D guys. Plus a good young bench with a little bit of some cap money to spend.
Kings are nearly rebuilt. Sexton and Monk would be a seriously underrated backcourt. BI and Markeneen your two leaders and then Poelt in the middle with Queen being developed to takeover.
I agree with this Russ.
As an outsider looking in Scottie and Sabonis might be abit clunky but atleast you get Keegans shooting and Grady stays aswell.
If they could mesh then it could be good.
Think it would be awesome for the kings.
Sexton and Monkni think would be an awesome combo, Ingram gets a good group of shooters around him especially with Lauri if that was to happen.
Then lastly the Jazz, they get out of Lauris massive deal and get a real scoring threat and DD as a good vet.
George/Collier LaVine DD Collins Kessler. I like there athleticism with Zach and Collins and you’ve got a bunch of young guys to build with while being competitive
Sabonis is an interesting trade to me. Sacramento would have to be ready to rebuild for that to happen. Not sure rebuilding is what their wacky owner is thinking as evidenced by trading for Levine (foolishly) instead of picks and prospects.
Kings are that Cali team that nobody wants to play for. They may as well face reality and pack it in. Get picks, reload.
Or adding DeMar either. Sabo is will want out, and it will be difficult to move either DD or Zach.
or Sabonis and picks for Giannis.
Obviously from raptors stand point you try to get Giannis without giving up too much. Scottie, Agbaji, 4 firsts seems fair. Sabonis is a guy I always wanted on raptors other than Giannis. Raps are not interested in kD.
If bucks do trade Giannis I think they would get a better offer than this from someone else. Also Giannis would have to have Toronto on his list of acceptable destinations.
My trade machine idea was Scottie and BI for Giannis and Kuzma. Plus the four picks and three swaps.
Raps don’t want Kuzma. Kuzma is worse than Ingram. Scottie and Agbaji with 4 firsts work. Rockets would be worse if they traded for him. Only spurs can top raps trade. Eastern powerhouses are over the apron and won’t trade for Giannis. Giannis has ties to Ujiri yet everyone doubts him wanting to go to raptors. We should all know by now…never say never.
Agree on never say never. Just want to clarify kuzma. To me that is part of the “price” for Raps. Taking a bad contract.
ATL can also put together a strong offer. They have better young players than Toronto and somehow have a 1st in every draft even if they are not the best 1st. Including two in this draft.
KAT, Bridges, Kolek
