Finding a point guard was a top priority for the Kings when free agency opened on Monday. According to NBA insider Chris Haynes (Twitter link), the team arranged meetings via Zoom with both Dennis Schröder and Russell Westbrook.
Sacramento was also planning to meet with Malcolm Brogdon, sources tell Jake Fischer of The Stein Line (Twitter link), who notes that the Wizards would be willing to accommodate a sign-and-trade deal involving Brogdon.
The Kings may end up adding more than one point guard, with Schröder looking like a lock to be one of them. Reports leading up to free agency indicated the two sides would likely agree to a two-year deal worth the full non-taxpayer mid-level exception, and Fred Katz of The Athletic (Twitter link) has since reported that Schröder will reach an agreement to sign with Sacramento.
Here are a few more free agent rumors from around the NBA:
- Al Horford is commanding a lot of attention, reports HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto (via Twitter). Scotto says that the Warriors, Knicks, Nuggets, Lakers, and Cavaliers have all expressed interest in luring Horford away from the Celtics since free agency opened, but Boston is also interested in retaining him, especially after losing Luke Kornet earlier in the day to the Spurs.
- After agreeing to sign Tyus Jones to be the team’s backup point guard, Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press hears that reserve big man Moritz Wagner is expected to return to the Magic (Twitter link). Orlando declined its team option on Wagner over the weekend, but retained his Bird rights. Jason Beede of the Orlando Sentinel echoes Reynolds’ report (via Twitter), saying that expects Wagner to re-sign with the Magic.
- The Warriors feel good about their chances of re-signing restricted free agent forward Jonathan Kuminga, according to ESPN’s Marc Spears (Twitter video link). Spears says the money Kuminga and his representatives are looking for does not seem to be on the market this summer, which could result in him remaining in Golden State.
Horford on the Warriors won’t end well unless Adam Silver shortens the season.
Why?
What’s been the Warriors issue last few seasons? Does a near 40 yr old Horford give Golden State a better seed over an 82 game season? I’m sure he could help come playoff time but as a 7th or 8th seed, doubt it. Look at the top of west. Warriors have had to work crazy hard just to make the playoffs. Need to get a bit younger. You gonna play Draymond and Al at the 5? Awfully long season, should be looking after those guys. Have you seen Post play D? Go get Al by all means but, I’d be chasing another Big too in the hope these guys are on the court come playoffs.
Aristotle posted the smartest thing I’ve seen from him posting so far. Mo Wagner and Horford isn’t impossible. You’d be cooking with gas then. I don’t trust Post 100%. Sporadic minutes for him for me.
What has been the Warriors biggest problem the past few seasons? That’s easy. Not even close. Their offense. Their shooting was terrible. Turnovers are a close second. Their defense carried them most of the season. They went 23-6 with Post starting. He was a Rookie. He kept getting better. He’ll probably be better next season. TJD got better as the season wore on. Looney averaged 15mpg. Half of what Horford played last season.
Al can play anywhere. Its about mins. He can give any team 20 mins. Warriors should have looked at Kornet first. If Celtics want him he will stay. Cavs and Knicks are a good place for him.
I like Horford over Kornet. Unlike Looney, he can spread the floor and score which the Warriors struggled with last season. He can be a beast like Loon.
Horford can be, like Loon, a mentor to Post and TJD. The Pels are lucky to have him. He’ll spread the ‘Brate’ energy to New Orleans. Zion might become a star.
Philly and OKC stint Al had one foot out the door to retirement. He wasnt good. All’s I’m saying is get another big, not just Al. Or let me guess, the Warriors can beat history? Average age of starters would be what? And an 82 game season which nobody replying has taken into account or addressed. It’s a real concern. More of a chance to go deeper in New York is Al.
Oh my gawd. You are so desperate. What issue is not being addressed? Are you another clone of Davey J? I thought you were a Celtics fan. Why do you care about the Warriors?
Desperate for what? Reading or comprehension not your strong point. Age, Again, go get AL, cool. Don’t pin all your hopes on a 39yr old centre. Get another big. What’s the average age of the warriors starters? And hows that play out over 82 games? Do you need to read the same post ten times before you take it in.
OK Sparky. What is the average age of the Warriors starting lineup? You do realize that training camp is still 4 months away. It hasn’t been decided.
The Warriors won 48 games last season with a terrible offense. Horford would replace Looney. I love Loon. Loon was never an offensive threat. Horford would play far fewer minutes then he did last season and give the Warriors much more firepower without the lose of defense.
The Warriors easily win 5 more games. That is enough for 3rd in the Western Conference.
Although I’d hate to see it, Horford would be a great fit on the Warriors. good passer, hits the three, can switch on anyone. He’s the type of guy they need,
Sure….and the average age of starters wouldn’t be a worry in an 82 game season?
This is what I think
3 free agents don’t have good agents.
Giddey
Kuminga
Grimes
They rely on only one team – Nets
The hottest product only signed $62 million.
How much do you want?
I’m kinda terrified the “Lebron to GSW” (another of my old predictions I got yelled at on here for having) thing is actually happening. Jimmy and Podz for Bron and Bronny oh no it actually works for both sides noooo…
🤣🤣🤣
Davey has posted twice a day for the past two years that Kerr needs to fired because he will never play a 7-footer. After the Warriors picked up Quentin Post’s option, a 7-footer, who played 16mpg in 41 games last season, Davey immediately said the Warriors have to trade Post. The ink wasn’t even dry and he wanted Post gone. I wonder what he gets out of trolling.
Warriors need a rim protector. He makes all your bigs better. Prolongs their shelf life too. Sims is out there. They should be bringing in that kid from G-league for SL Moses Brown …
Here comes your daily dose of copium from Davey J
I hope Kuminga finds a better situation, regardless of the money, which ain’t as important as finding his happiness in the league.
