July 7: Clarkson has officially signed with the Knicks, according to the NBA’s transaction log.
June 30: Jordan Clarkson will sign with the Knicks after he clears waivers, reports NBA insider Chris Haynes (via Twitter).
The Knicks had been expected to target Clarkson since news broke that he would be waived by the Jazz, writes Steve Popper of Newsday Sports (Twitter link). The veteran guard agreed to a buyout with Utah and was officially waived earlier today.
Ian Begley of SNY (Twitter link) confirms Popper’s report, saying that Clarkson had been considered a priority signing for the Knicks. Stefan Bondy of the New York Post reported (via Twitter) that the deal would likely be for the veteran’s minimum, around $3.6MM.
Clarkson averaged 16.2 points and 3.7 assists per game for the Jazz last season while shooting 36.2% from three. He played a career-low 37 games, with his season impacted both by injuries and by Utah’s tanking efforts.
The 2021 Sixth Man of the Year has been in Utah for over five years, with his best statistical season occurring in 2022/23, when he averaged 20.8 points, 4.4 assists, and 4.0 rebounds per contest. While he holds a career average of 2.9 assists per game, he became a better play-maker with the Jazz, whose point guard rotation was up-and-down during his tenure. He has averaged 4.5 assists to 2.7 turnovers over his last three seasons.
Clarkson brings a much-needed dose of ball-handling off the bench to the Knicks, whose reliance on star point guard Jalen Brunson at times left the team vulnerable to intense ball-pressure. A capable shot-creator, Clarkson will pair with fifth-year guard Miles McBride to firm up the Knicks’ depth as they look to build on last year’s Eastern Conference Finals run.
Clarkson for the minimum is a good get for the Knicks.
If by “good” you mean “terrible” yeah sure
clarkson is better than cam payne.
Nope.
Good move. I’ll take him over Westbrook.
They’re both absolutely terrible and will lose you so many games in 2026.
It’ll be nice to have his scoring off the bench.
Inefficient scoring like it’s the 90s
42% and 33%
He scores with terrible efficiency. You better hope the bench fetches offensive rebounds.
I’m not a Knicks fan, but I saw a lack of scoring off the bench from their guards in the playoffs, so he should help in that regard.
For the minimum ……. lol can’t beat that.
Excellent move ….. brilliant. This is huge. Talking real bench scoring now. Great just love it. Still want Russ and Al ……. come on now.
The bigger story is that the minimum for his years in the league is over $3 mill & for rookie it’s over a mill & 1 yr over $2 mill etc etc.
On a one-year minimum deal, only $2.3MM will count against the Knicks’ cap, even though Clarkson will make $3.6MM. link to hoopsrumors.com
This is crazy
Worst player in the league going to a team that only knows how to shoot itself in the foot. Brunson should request a trade after this idiotic move, FREE JB
Idiotic move, should be the straw that breaks the Camel’s back and pushes JB to demand a trade?!
Guys that can put up 20 in a game off the bench are not easy to find, much less for the Vet minimum. Keep trolling Davey J, keep trolling.
In my opinion, Jordan Clarkson is the worst regular player in the league and there’s plenty of stats to back it up. I am not trolling, just because I state my opinion doesn’t mean I am trolling. In fact, I stated this before the Knicks signed him, so take this homer crybaby act elsewhere.
Ur overreacting to a minimum salary signing.
FankenStein ………. is lonely….. must troll
Uhhhhhjj aghhhhhh. Rahhhhaahh must troll …..,
Clarkson for the minimum is a good get. the only thing you want him for is to come off the bench and score. he’s more than capable of that.
He absolutely is not a good get. He is old, washed, he was never good, he doesn’t do anything except put up empty scoring in losses. The Knicks are idiots for this signing.
The FankenStein needs a new brain …….
Washed at 32 yrs old ????
Shot .362 from three, shot 80% FT
In 26 mins he scored 16.2 pts
He’s a better scorer than Hart right now. Is our best scorer off the bench today. Plus the big lights of Bwy will be on him now. So will glow.
So hows the Warriors FA so far? Eh? Thats right, nothing but silence.
When you’re playing for bad teams he’d have to score 100 to get a win.
If you can pencil in 16-20 off the bench for the Knicks nightly, that will be great for them.
Scoring off the bench, plays spot minutes, has the occasional game where he goes off, all for the veteran minimum ……. good for the KNICKS.
He wont do any of that – but keep hoping!
Did he bang your mother or something? You keep returning to this thread to make the same comments. LOL he doesn’t move the needle enough, but saying worst player in the league just shows YDKB
Name a worse player then, or else YDKB
Bronny…hahaha
Okay besides Bronny obviously hahaha
I will reframe my statement to clear it up: I think out of all the guys 7+ years in, Clarkson is the worst.
Not a fan of the player or the signing. I would have preferred to re-sign Shamet and Wright to complete the guard spots. It’s possible that they weren’t available for minimum. Anything beyond minimum needs to go to a C.
“…much-needed dose of ball-handling off the bench.”
Ever see McBride handle the ball? He’s actually quite good. Much needed is when Brunson AND McBride are both down. And Clarkson is not close to PG skills. He’s just offense…a poor man’s Lou Williams. What he will do is heat up and bring the Knicks back into games where they struggle to hit shots.
McBride is not good on the ball. He occasionally hits stepbacks out of Isolation at the end of the clock, but he’s a terrible passer/playmaker for his size.
Gotta disagree. For context when he’s on the floor they do look to him as a scoring option, a change from when he was drafted as a defensive point guard. Today he scores because of the crew that’s on the floor with him and while he’s asked to score during that time, he’s better than a 4:1 assist to turnover ratio per 36 minutes. Not my idea of a starting point guard, but certainly good enough to play the role as a backup and his defense is really his game. Good enough to move IQ.
Clarkson represents a big upgrade from Cam Payne. He’s capable of replacing Brunson’s scoring / shot creation on the 2nd unit, and has enough size to play next to him if necessary.
Knicks Depth Chart (11)
PG: Jalen Brunson, Jordan Clarkson, Tyler Kolek
SG: Mikal Bridges, Miles McBride
SF: OG Anunoby, Josh Hart, Pacome Dadiet
PF: Karl-Anthony Towns
C: Mitchell Robinson, Ariel Hukporti
UFA: Cam Payne (PG), Precious Achiuwa (PF), Landry Shamet (SG), Delon Wright (PG), PJ Tucker (PF)
For the minimum I’d take Drummond.
Clarkson has always been inefficient outside of that one season way back in LA. He simply missed too many shots but styles himself as a gunner. Knicks fans should burn down the city (since they’re into that sorta thing)
Davey J has stated like 30 players are the worst in some category often repeating himself
Great signing by NY. Now resign Achiwa and go get burks back
Team that needs defense signs horrible defender….
