While a number of Kings rotation starter- or rotation-level veterans, including Malik Monk, DeMar DeRozan, and Zach LaVine, are viewed as potential trade candidates, as ESPN’s Bobby Marks notes (YouTube link), center Domantas Sabonis remains unlikely to be moved.
When Sabonis spoke after the season about wanting to meet with the new lead basketball operations executives – including general manager Scott Perry – to discuss the future, there was speculation about the possibility that he might ask for a trade, but there has been no indication that will happen this summer, Sam Amick of The Athletic confirmed during an appearance on The Carmichael Dave Show with Jason Ross (YouTube link).
“So far, he’s been signaling patience and had good conversations with the new front office,” Amick said of Sabonis. “The (Dennis) Schröder move to me is an interesting one in the context of Domas, because for the short term, I could see Domas saying, ‘Listen, I just want to feel like I have a chance every night, and now you’ve got me a point guard.’
“They’ve still got to figure out the fact that you have so many guys who like to score the ball, and Domas wants to get back to the higher usage that he had a couple years ago. So it’s still not even close to perfect, but it’s enough that nobody’s causing a ruckus and they’re just trying to wait and see what the roster looks like in the next couple months.”
We have more on the Kings:
- Echoing reporting from Tuesday night about the Kings’ sign-and-trade talks for Warriors restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga, Ali Thanawalla and Tristi Rodriguez of NBC Sports Bay Area say Sacramento has talked about sending out Devin Carter, Dario Saric, and two second-round picks in a package for Kuminga. However, Amick hears that the Kings have made “zero progress” toward finalizing a deal (Twitter link). That makes sense, considering that would be a pretty light return for a Golden State team believed to be seeking at least one reliable rotation player in any Kuminga sign-and-trade.
- The idea that the Kings, Warriors, and Pistons are seriously discussing a three-team trade that would see both Kuminga and Schröder signed-and-traded to Sacramento is “totally false,” a source tells Jason Anderson of The Sacramento Bee. Although the Kings have interest in Kuminga, those talks are unrelated to their deal for Schröder, according to Anderson.
- According to Thanawalla and Rodriguez of NBC Sports Bay Area, the Kings are considered more likely than not to part ways with Monk this offseason and haven’t closed the door on sending him to Detroit in the Schröder sign-and-trade. However, reports of Monk’s potential inclusion seem to be coming entirely from Sacramento-based outlets rather than the Detroit side, so it sounds like the Kings have more interest in including Monk in that deal than the Pistons do.
Would be better to keep Kumionga than send him out for the weak offer. Not even a 1st round pick and all warriors get is 2 end of the bench players. It got to be a made up offer by a kings fan.
Must be the Davey J with a Kings Cap
i was wondering who would think that is a good deal for warriors? Even letting Kuminga walk with nothing is a better deal to spend the money on a free agent.
For real I will take the full MLE and BAE over that trash
GSW already knows who Saric is – they found him unplayable after giving him a legit shot just 2 seasons ago. And 6’2″ Devin Carter for this team?
Making this trade would be FO malpractice!
arc, this Warriors inactivity has me thinking that something huge is coming up. HUGE !!
If you think about it, all they’ve done is added a couple rookies. Zero free agent signings of any veteran.
They’re probably the only team that’s done nothing. Everyone else is signing veterans for their lineup or for back up roles. There has to be something in the works.
I doubt anything huge. This seems to be entirely because Horford is the top target for the one non min contract they can offer and theyre waiting on him. They would like to do something bigger with Kuminga, but unless its for one of the NOP better players he probably just resigns once he comes to terms with how shitttty his market is.
They are Im sure looking at vet min guys. I would think if Melton will take one they would sign him quick. Otherwise I think they are waiting for most teams to spend the MLE and burn out resources so that the rest on the market know theres nothing but vet mins. They I would think are targeting Brogden types who can be useful off the bench.
Warriors haven’t done anything because they can’t do anything since they’re paying everyone and everyone except draymond wants all of the money
There’s no way they trade for Giannis or LeBron
If they give Kuminga a contract or take back more than 15M they have the TPMLE and mins.
Saric is an instant cut. Carter hasnt proven he can even stay in a rotation. Like Kuminga has more value as matching salary after he signs than a prospect thats lost value, a bench player heading to EU, and a couple second.
If the Kings want to move Monk, why isn’t he an option for the JK sign/trade?
Not that he’s an incredibly great fit for GSW either, but he did show his passing ability last season with a career high 5.6 apg with 2.4 TO/gm, and he can definitely score. His 3 pt fg numbers would improve on the Warriors as well.
I have a feeling the Warriors are working on something a lot bigger than Malik Monk.
He can be OK in spurts and he’s had a good year or two on his resume but watching him last year he had a lot of dud performances.
I don’t think he’s a target for the Warriors. He’s just not good enough.
If im the pistons im telling the kings I want sabonis and the Dennis deal paves the way for that like hey we will attach 2 1st and 5 2nds to that deal + Tobias expiring contract and we get murry as well… idk but its somthing to monitor.. Detroit is holding this up for a reason..
And we get murray as well , yeah right
Seems like Pistons already have their guys. In Duncan and LaVert. With Ivey coming back. Don’t see need for Monk. There is a need for backup center.
Nets should just sign Giddey and Kuminga. New starting backcourt…..
Kuminga is frontcourt
This Kuminga stuff is exhausting…
While don’t the Bulls just give them Coby White for him and let’s move on…
Who else are the Warriors sending over? Kuminga himself isn’t enough to land Coby White
Your kidding right? He is a score only player on an expiring deal. Shoulda traded him when he was under cheap team control for 3 years. Now he is just a score first guard thats going to need a big salary next year.
This is just like DeRozan/Caruso where you hold the asset to long and then it isnt worth nearly as much. Team control matters and when you waste it all yourself you get way less.
This story sounds like the source for this story is Kuminga’s agent. It looks like the two writers for the story are General Assignment reporters, and not the two leads for the Kings and Warriors at NBCSports. The agent wants to get something done. Another story on the same site suggests that JK has no leverage. The Warriors may walk away if the salary is over $20 million. JK probably needs a new agent. They poorly timed this. JK could have had $30. But, they wanted more. So, JK felt the pressure all season to prove he was worth it. And, as a result, his shooting numbers regressed. Then there would have been no trade for Butler which swallowed up the money JK could have had.
Well… the Sixers could use a Forward….i think….but do the Warriors need a Guard like Grimes… if they do….maybe a deal could be made
