Thunder assistant coach Daniel Dixon has been named head coach of the Oklahoma City Blue, the G League team announced today (Twitter link via Clemente Almanza of Thunder Wire).
As Almanza writes in a full story, Dixon has been with the Thunder organization for the past three years and was previously a video coordinator in Charlotte.
Dixon was initially hired as a Blue assistant before being promoted to a Thunder assistant in 2024/25. He has spent time as head coach of the Summer League squads in both Salt Lake City and Las Vegas.
In a related move, the Thunder are promoting former Blue head coach Kameron Woods to be an assistant on Mark Daigneault‘s staff.
Woods has been the Blue’s head coach for the past three seasons, including winning an NBAGL title in 2024. He has been with the Thunder for seven years. Woods has also served as the lead coach during Summer League action, Almanza notes.
Trading Jones out instead of letting Williams walk was a bad move.
Coaching changes should have been left alone
OKC will not repeat
You’re not seriously saying this team needs Dillon Jones as a part of their future, right? Repeating is hard, but Dillon freaking Jones being gone isn’t making a damn bit of difference.
And Cam Woods only adds to an already great coaching staff with all of the main assistants remaining with the team.
I’m kinda joking around
If they are all healthy then there is no excuse. We will see
I have a random question. Do you think they should offer a ring to Malevy Leons? He was apart of their team last season technically
What is the criteria for staff?
Gotcha. Went over my head lol. My bad. But I wouldn’t mind giving a ring to Leons, he played minutes, however insignificant, on a championship team so why not. It’s not my money. lol.
As for JWill, I agree that he’s probably overpaid for his limited roll, but keeping his passing and decent shooting around for the regular season is okay as insurance for Chet and IHart without putting that roll on a rookie coming off an injury as well without a Summer League to acclimate. Plus he’s a massive vibes guy. D Jones is redundant on this team. Don’t know why they wasted a first on him.
You are right about Williams passing, I didn’t mention it. Vibes guy? Team friendly guy? Every team should have veterans 30+.
Like you said they offered alot to get Jones to just dump him a year later and at 6’5 255 is a little bit too heavy. I just think Sorber and Williams are redundant together
They should offer an ring to Leons IMO
Do you think they will repeat?
I think Sorber eventually would allow JWill to slide to his more natural PF position and not be our emergency only big guy if Chet & IHart are out. And eventually JWill will either be a trade piece or be our very end of bench guy who can actually play minutes when needed.
A repeat is probably not likely, but we have a lot of players that should be better next year from natural growth/development so I think OKC or Denver comes out of the west. Denver didn’t need to do a ton with Jokic being the best player in the league IMO, I think the Cam/MPJ trade and getting rid of Russ were key moves that could be enough to dethrone OKC this year. Hoping for a repeat though!
Give him SGA’s ring.
Leons did most of the work really
They drafted 6’9 PF/C Sorber. Why resign Jaylin Williams for 6m a year? Playing 17! minutes a game to get you what 5 points and 5 rebounds playing undersized PF/C at 6’8. He plays horrible defense and wasn’t able to make one 3 per game until this year. Williams is always injured, Why trade out Jones when you can just let Williams walk?
OKC had a fluke year. Good luck getting rocked by teams now that SGA’s antics are figured out and the league isn’t letting him cheat. Much like Harden’s jamming the ball into people during drives and getting calls in the old days.
