The Knicks have exercised their third-year team option on Pacome Dadiet, reports Ian Begley of SNY.tv (via Twitter).
Dadiet, the 25th overall pick in last year’s draft, will now earn a guaranteed $2,983,680 in 2026/27. New York will have until the end of next October to decide whether to pick up its fourth-year option on Dadiet.
A 6’7″ guard/forward, Dadiet only played 111 minutes in 18 games with the Knicks as a rookie last season. He has yet to make an appearance in year two.
The French wing received more playing time at the G League level in ’24/25, averaging 13.9 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 23 games (31.8 minutes per contest) for the Knicks’ affiliate team in Westchester. Scoring efficiency was an issue for the 20-year-old, who posted a shooting line of .402/.296/.826.
There were rumors that the Knicks might look to trade Dadiet this fall to clear enough room below their second-apron hard cap to keep two veterans on their roster to open the season instead of one. However, Malcolm Brogdon‘s surprise retirement likely ended any speculation on that front, and now Dadiet will be under contract through at least next season.
Today was the deadline for teams to make decisions on rookie scale team options for 2026/27. All of those decisions can be found here.
Should be playing. Why glue him to the bench shamet and Clarkson are not it. He will struggle but will develop into an actual piece. Knicks are not championship contenders. They match up really well against Cleveland, but anybody with bigger guards in the back court are going to destroy the Knicks. They’ll just attack kat and Mitch has no offense when he is on the floor. Heart Mitch on the floor together means it’s three on five on offense. Kat and Bronson on D means it’s three on five on defense team is not constructed well at all
Shamet is fine for what he is, but Clarkson is worse than useless. Staple him to Dadiet and a second round pick or two and bring in two vets who can offer …anything, really.
What does Shamet do that’s fine. If you play him as a 6th man or regular minutes he gets exposed. We’re talking about developing a guard who can start or come off the bench for regular rotation minutes. 2nd how are you going to trade Clarkson? He is on a minimal contract. Nobody wants him he is cooked. Develop Dadiet. Good teams develop players while competing. OKC plays young guys. Even the Lakers are. This whole just bring in vets. What vets are you bringing in? They sold their cap and picks for Towns and bridges.
Easy. He’s worse than Shamet and Clarkson.
No he is not. Have you seen Clarkson? Shamet provides 1 three a game. Bro he has a higher ceiling. Shamet is a 3rd string guard who will be out of the NBA if not on the Knicks.
Y’all gotta stop this. Clarkson was good. He is 33. This is when most NBA players falls off the cliff.
Really at 33 ???? ok Nostradamus .
I don’t think the Warriors got that memo lol
Are you comparing Steph Curry top 10 player of all time to a 6th man. The difference between Al horford and Draymond Green is there. A lead skills are not about scoring the basketball, but the other things that they do defense rebounding playmaking. What makes Clarkson a good NBA player is his scoring ability which at 33. As I said, most players start to tail off. So his tail off is a big tail off because he no longer can score the way he was scoring and his prime or when he was younger. Therefore he is more of a third string guard and it’s why he was cut by the Utah Jazz. I don’t think I have to prove my point. I think the tape and the games that he’s played has shown exactly what he is been doing since last year and the four or five games that they are already played
Bro all the Warriors top guns are over 33. I need to explain that.
And they are all former all-stars with elite skill sets. Never has there been a player like Al horford, Draymond green and curry. Butler has taken a step back but guess what he is a 6’7 all NBA player who lead his team to two finals and is a number 2 option now. Curry is top 10 all time. Clarkson is older cam Thomas. Ben Gordon we seen these types and they fall off at 32-33
I’m glad they exercised on Dadiet, he has the skill level of an NBA wing, and pathetically, he’s the only guy the team has on a RSC. Playing time has to be earned, but he needs a path – no, not an audition to see what he can do. The coaching change hurts him. Brown might have too much on his plate right now to move away from the FO’s touted (by them) off season acquisitions for a project, at least right now. G-league seems like the natural destination when it starts up, but with Brown tasking the team in a new system, Dadiet needs to be around the big club too.
It has to be earned but there is also is development. We already seen what the Knicks bench players can do. Again shamet is a 3rd string guard. And Clarkson is over the hill. So you can find 5 to 10 minutes for him so he can develop and go out there and show something. I just don’t see the point of having him playing G League with the option set the Knicks have out there right now.
I don’t believe that giving players unearned minutes leads to development, at least not development as winning players. With a non-tanking team, I also don’t think it’s healthy for the locker room. I accept that others here and about the game do believe in the concept (run them out there and let’s see). I just can’t find any coaches (in any sport) that are among them. FO guys, sure. I think it’s more a question of coaches know who gives the team the best chance to win, and FO guys don’t, so they want to see it. Fans naturally relate more to the latter. That said, “earning it” is relative. Of course, I’m not sure where Dadiet stands with Brown on the earned it scale.
G-league minutes might not be best for evaluation, but I think it can build a young player’s confidence, in his skills and in the new system (presumably the NYK run Brown’s stuff at Westchester). Not for an experienced guy like Kolek, but Dadiet, yes. Some of it is just adjusting to the physicality of playing against older guys with adult bodies.
On winning teams it does. Trust me I know from experience. It’s more of a sink or swim situation. The way people are talking is that he can’t play any basketball and that’s just untrue. We watched him in the preseason play and he did just fine. I think that’s where the disconnect is coming from. What I mean about develop is being a consistent contributor he can shoot. He’s not afraid to drive to the hall and he gets down on defense. The tape is there. The point of the post is what’s the point of playing Shamet? He is incapable of being a backup shooting guard in the NBA. With regular season minutes? It’s why the Knicks are able to sign him for the veteran minimum. There is no other team in the NBA that is going to sign Shamet, so play him like a 3rd stringer. You playing Kolek and he is not a backup point guard. The Knicks are stuck really they have no trade chips but heart
You have to sign him. He’s one of our few assets.
Like to see him step up and push for mins. I believe in him. Still has plenty of time to show.
I dunno, this guy has Frank Ntilikina written all over him. Great physical gifts but meek and passive.
He’s got all around skills. Plays both ways. He was one of youngest guys in his draft. No not Frank lol. Gotta be patient. I’m hoping Brown gives him a shot this yr. He played well in G-league last yr. Probably should play their again. Better to play than sit imo.
You don’t give up on a guy because as a teenager he has a difficulty dealing with the physicality of older players. Guys with his build aren’t even average 19/20 year olds in terms of where they stand relative to their eventual adult bodies (more similar to 17/18 athletes in other sports).
Frank is out of the league because he lacked the offensive skills (which are physical gifts as well) to be more than a situational player in the league.
He actually reminds me very much of Kevin Knox, not Ntilikina.
And Knox got the playing time everyone thinks is the key to unlocking Dadiet. Didn’t matter. Soft and low motor. Measurables and jump shot look great in workouts, but not against actual NBA comp.
How Frank was a 2 guard in a point guards body. Couldn’t shoot and couldn’t playmake. How is he Frank? Frank was also to drafted high and expected to make an impact right away when he should’ve have been a late lottery pick. Did you watch him in the preseason. Was able to shoot play D and get to the cup. 7 minutes off the bench will do him well. Play him with Bronson or Kat/OG while bridges sits. Have McBride sub in for him. Or he can play while Kat sits.
