Behind a 23-point, 16-rebound, 10-assist triple-double from Russell Westbrook, the shorthanded Kings dispatched the shorthanded Warriors on Wednesday, writes Anthony Slater of ESPN.com.
“Humbly speaking, I’m the best rebounding guard ever,” Westbrook said post-game. “So if the ball come across the rim, I’m going to get it.”
According to Slater, the nine-time All-Star made that comment before discovering that he had made NBA history during the win by passing Jason Kidd for the most career rebounds for a guard.
“Oh,” Westbrook said. “Honestly, I didn’t even know that. I’m going to need the game ball.”
Here’s more from the Pacific:
- The one-year, minimum-salary contract that Precious Achiuwa signed with the Kings on Tuesday is non-guaranteed, per Michael Scotto of HoopsHype (Twitter link). The 26-year-old forward/center recorded four points, three rebounds and one block in nine minutes in his debut with Sacramento on Wednesday.
- Suns forward Dillon Brooks is questionable for Saturday’s rematch against the Clippers in Los Angeles, tweets Law Murray of The Athletic. Brooks has missed the past six games with a core muscle strain. Kawhi Leonard will miss his third straight game for the Clips as he continues to battle a right ankle sprain, Murray adds.
- The Clippers have gotten off to a rocky start — they hold a 3-5 record after being dominated by the Suns on Thursday. Head coach Tyronn Lue is preaching patience with some new faces on the roster, as Janis Carr of The Orange County Register relays. “We really haven’t had the chance to get to our full potential as far as lineups and things like that,” Lue said. “So, we just gotta be patient, let our guys get healthy and then we’ll see.”
- After missing the first eight games of 2025/26 with a right hamstring strain, Jalen Green had an impressive Suns debut on Thursday, according to Duane Rankin of The Arizona Republic. The former No. 2 overall pick scored a game-high 29 points (on 10-of-20 shooting) while chipping in three rebounds, three assists and two steals in just 23 minutes during the blowout victory. “Body wise, I felt really good,” the 23-year-old shooting guard said. “Overall, I was just really excited to get out there. I was telling the guys I couldn’t even sleep. Usually I take a pregame nap. I couldn’t even get my nap in. I was so excited.”
DeM had a decent game. Looks like Westbrook was the only one who wanted to win …. against Thunder.
35 mins, 24 pts, 6 reb, 9 ast, 5/9 (3pt) …..
Russ can play for my team anytime .
Warriors had a rough one without Curry. I still don’t see a playmaker. When Dray leads you in ast with 4. You have to look around lols. Warriors should have been looking at Westbrook .
Spencer led GSW with 5 ast of the team’s 28, so the problem wasn’t really playmaking, it was poor defense and shooting.
42% overall and 29% from three usually won’t win games when the opponent shoots 56%/49%.
Please tell me why the Knicks refused to sign Westbrook?? Did he just not want to come to New York. I’d rather have Westbrook instead of Kolek right now. Especially in this win now season. NY front office has been great, but some decisions I don’t understand
Westbrook ? Lol. People forget that just the other day he told us the Nuggets “didn’t want him after his one year there. They told him to opt out and go away.”
Every real basketball fan on the face of the planet knows Russell Westbrook is not a championship player.
He is an incredible athlete, probably a real nice guy, is proven to be a fantastic teammate and charitable in the community.
He could probably go head to head one on one against almost any player in the league and win. Seriously.
But my goodness, the guy does not understand How to win a basketball game that involves 4 other guys on the floor.
He is so headstrong and of course gives 1000% effort, but he does not know when to shoot or when not to shoot, when to drive to the hole and finish or when to keep his dribble and find a guy Who has a higher percentage shot.
Sorry Russ, you’ve accomplished so much in the league and you’re a first Hall of Famer 100% but you don’t know what you’re doing out there.
He’s the epitome of when he’s on he’ll look great and when he’s not he’ll look terrible—and bring the team down with him. Hard to win a championship with that kind of player no matter how talented they are.
I don’t think people understand how depressing it is that the Kings best trade asset is f’ing Russell Westbrook
He actually might be increasing his value with the kings. He’s pretty effective there, and I credit the coaching staff as well as Russ for making that happen.
