Nice replies. Two personal thoughts on potential trades for Clippers and OKC.
1) OKC risks impacting chemistry with a big trade, so unless it is for Giannis, only smaller trades make sense to me.
If players like Ousmane Dieng, Kenrich Williams or Isaiah Joe, that could be traded next off-season to make space for draft picks, had a season-ending injury, a trade for an expiring contributor could make sense. They could take back maximum 1 million extra salary for the future repeater luxury tax.
2) Anfernee Simmons to Clippers for John Collins works, although it only makes sense to Boston if a third team gets involved so that they can avoid luxury tax this season with an eye to the repeater tax next seasons.
If it is the only move, they would need to cut 12,08 million so take back only 15,59 million for him. There are alternatives though: replace Hauser with a cheaper player would have the biggest impact.
But minor tweaks like waiving non-guaranteed Jordan Walsh, trading expiring minimum salary Garza, Minott or Boucher or trading low salary Scheiermann or Gonzales, playing for a period with 13 players and replacing them with pro-rated minimum salary players on the buy-out market could also work.
They would only need to shave a little over 400.000 that way if they would take back “expiring” Bogdanovic from the Clippers. Klay Thompson, Allen or Duncan Robinson could also be within reach while keeping Hauser with those last tricks. Not sure if they can get Huerter, Zubac or Zach Collins with those minor tweaks.
Thanks for the answers, Luke!
