The Warriors are in the market for an athletic center, according to NBA Insider Chris Haynes (hat tip to Real GM).
Speaking on NBA on Prime, Haynes pointed out a number of issues that the Warriors have regarding their interior players.
“They are looking for size and athleticism. You look at the Warriors – rebounding and blocked shots, they’re in the bottom half of the league. And points in the paint, they are dead last. So they are looking for an athletic center,” he said.
Haynes named the Mavericks’ Daniel Gafford, the Nets’ Nic Claxton, and the Trail Blazers’ Robert Williams as potential targets. “I was told they are really serious and they are trying to do everything they can to try to get the team back to being of the caliber of a championship contending-type,” Haynes added.
Here’s more on the Warriors:
- Heading into their rematch with the Suns on Saturday, the Warriors are saddled with a 13-15 record and three-game losing streak. They lost to Phoenix 99-98 on Thursday and are re 5-10 in clutch games, defined as the game’s score being within five points during the final five minutes. “If you’re gonna be a good team, you’re able to overcome all of that,” Stephen Curry said, per Nick Friedell of The Athletic. “We’re obviously not a good team right now because of what our record says and the fact that we found ourselves in these kind of positions.”
- In a similar vein, coach Steve Kerr felt his team displayed poor body language while getting outscored 53-45 during the second half. “I thought we let our shoulders drop a little bit,” Kerr said. “Energy, spirit, let ourselves feel sorry for ourselves a little bit when they made their run. I’m really proud of the guys, the way they fought, and gave ourselves a chance, but we’ve just got to be sharper — 20 turnovers for 30 points. So we’ve got to be sharper with the ball. We’ve got to be better with our body language and our energy.”
- They need Draymond Green, in particular, to cut down on his sloppy play, Monte Poole of NBC Sports Bay Area writes. He notes that Green has committed a whopping 13 turnovers over the last two games.
- Jonathan Kuminga played for the first time in nearly two weeks against Phoenix. He logged 10 minutes with Curry and Green on the court. “It felt good,” Kuminga said, per Friedell. “I feel like I fit perfect with them. I’ve been playing with them for a couple years now. I know how they play and I know where to be when they’re playing when we’re on the floor.” Kuminga is eligible to be traded on Jan. 15. “I don’t look at that,” Kuminga said. “I think when it comes, I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I don’t put my mind focusing on that. Because it’s gonna take me out of (the present) so I don’t even think about stuff like that. I just focus on how I’mma get on that floor, when I get on that floor, what am I going to do to help us win and stuff like that? That’s actually what’s been on my mind … just go out there and compete and find a way.”
Playing Podz, Buddy and GP2 in the late and close lineups: 5-10 record.
Giving your best reb/game guy DNPs and then 10 minutes: 13-15 record.
Giving one of your top 2 SG DNPs so Podz, Buddy and GP2 can play more: 13-15 record.
Fire Steve Kerr. He is the worst coach in the NBA from 2023-present.
This roster isn’t actually that bad, it’s the coach relentlessly shooting himself in the foot by committing huge minutes to Podz, Buddy and Gp2, when all 3 should be getting less than 10 mins a game.
Davey…. once again. Kiss his rings…. alllllll of them. Put some chap stick on first. And order kleenex to replace your box your burning thru.
You have to admit. Davey is showing some progress. He is beginning to accept was a good coach before 23. Of course, when the Warriors won in 22, they were rebuilding according to the owner and FO.
Claxton and a 2nd rounder to the warriors seems like a no brainer with Kuminga, TJD, and a lottery protected 2026 1st rounder to the Nets.
You want the truth on why they lost the last 2 games. 1. Green with 13 TO in teh last 2 games. they need to fix the TO situation. That falls on Kerr who doesn’t understand they are not the fast team they used to be and having older players play a fast pace game = TOs.
Claxton isnt worth all that lmao
Claxton is valuable for his size which teh warriors need. Draft picks are just letting Nets move up in the draft. The other big men are out of warriors pay range.
If probably hold back the 1st if you could but Claxton is a definite upgrade from Kuminga and Jackson-Davis
I am not sure you can get Claxton by just giving yup Kuminga for him. Intice Nets with moving up about 10 spots in the draft.
The Nets turned down trading Claxton over the the summer.
I’ve been telling people the turnovers are a problem. They have given up the 4th most of any team. This has nothing to do with Kerr. A bad pass is poor execution on the part of the player.
Green’s attitude about the turn overs is a problem. He just shrugs it off and claims its the only way he knows how to play the game. last game I lost count on how many of those TOs were self inflicted TOs not great plays by the Suns.
Steph can play a fast pace still, Draymond and Jimmy cant keep up
You will sacrifice your best player because of some bums? About time yall admit the Jimmy trade and extension was awful
Dubs fans still believe that:
– Curry is still in his prime
– Butler is superelite
– Draymond is still all defensive 1st team
All of which are false as seen by the teams record. 13-15 is a losing record and your three “leaders” are not getting it done. This is the same team that was “supposed” to win the west last year (as per our “reliable Hooprumors Dubs die hards) had Curry not getting injured.
Only thing I disagree with is if Curry didn’t get hurt they would have made it to the WCF because they were better than T-wolves. It would have been a lot of luck to get pass OKC last year. Curry has slowed down a little but still better than most players in teh league. Buttler is a good 2nd option but Kerr plays him as a PF instead of his true position. Green has been elite defense at times in games but you can see him get tired and can’t play the center position anymore. kerr playing him out of position at center is the problem.
Warriors would be in first if Kerr concentrated on his coaching as much as he does politics.
When is the last time he talked about his politics? Another Russian Troll.
mainly Kerr just talks about gun deaths and discrimination so when people complain about his politics its because they do not like to hear the truth.
I doubt it, Jimmy Butler would be on the roster regardless
What?
Oh gawd, how long will it to take before Al gets his panties, should I say “Knickers”, in a bunch and complain about Kerr and big man. It just shows how ignorant he is about the Warriors. There are so many facts he chooses to ignore.
Rob Will is a perfect fit for the Warriors
Yes, absolutely but do they want a guy who they can’t count on his health? They make all that effort to pick him up and he goes down with an injury? He’d fit right in though, so there’s that lol over his eight year career, he averages 32 games played per season.
At his peak I think Timelord is the best fit amongst those 3 targets especially cause he’s a really good passer, much better than his numbers suggest (think Kerr would utilize this more than Brad did).
I don’t think it’d be as costly a trade asset wise as the other 2 and it’s high upside (or to your point..or he doesn’t play at all), but still think it’s worth the gamble.
You’re absolutely right health has plagued him…as a Celtics fan I’m rooting hard for him wherever he is
If Bucks decide to move GA, Warriors will have option in Turner for Kuminga deal.
Myles Turner for Jonathan Kuminga
