After buying low on Brandon Ingram at last season’s trade deadline, could the Raptors seek out a similar move this February? According to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, Kings center Domantas Sabonis is one name that has been continually linked to Toronto. The Raptors’ interest in Sabonis was first reported in December by Jake Fischer and has since been corroborated by several other outlets.
Malik Monk is another player who has intrigued Toronto in the past, Siegel writes, noting that Kings general manager Scott Perry drafted current Raptors veterans RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley when he was in New York’s front office. While there’s no indication that the two teams have seriously discussed such a deal involving those four players, Siegel suggests that sort of framework could be worth keeping an eye on.
If Toronto does end up moving Barrett in that sort of bigger move, he’d likely draw interest from several teams besides Sacramento, Siegel writes, given the lack of high-level wing talent on the trade market. The Bucks, for example, expressed interest in Barrett last season, per Siegel.
Here’s more from Siegel’s latest NBA rumor round-up:
- The Warriors have internally discussed many possible center trade targets, including Myles Turner and Bobby Portis of the Bucks, per Siegel. A number of teams around the NBA are curious about Milwaukee’s plans for Portis, Siegel continues, with the Hornets and Suns also considered possible suitors, perhaps in multi-team scenarios.
- Suns guard Jalen Green is among the players the Bucks have inquired on, but Phoenix isn’t interested in moving him at this point, says Siegel. Given that Green has only played two games this season due to hamstring issues, the Suns view him as a sort of trade-deadline addition themselves, Siegel explains.
- Although the Nets are fielding inquiries on players like Michael Porter Jr. and Nic Claxton, they aren’t actively looking to move them. In order for Brooklyn to consider a deal involving either player, the starting point for a package would have to be a “true” unprotected first-round pick, Siegel writes.
- The Mavericks and the Clippers are among the teams with interest in Bulls guard Coby White, sources tell Siegel, who reiterates that the Timberwolves also remain interested and notes that some league insiders have speculated that the Hawks could be a destination for White in the event of a Trae Young trade.
- With higher-level options like Herbert Jones potentially out of reach, players like Bulls forward Isaac Okoro, Kings guard Keon Ellis, and Nets wing Haywood Highsmith are considered more realistic possibilities for a Lakers team seeking defensive help, according to Siegel. Mavericks forward Naji Marshall is another possible trade candidate to add to that group if Dallas commits to becoming a seller.
Trade Jebron Lames!
Give it a rest Skip
Who?
What about Sabonis, Carter and picks 35 and 37 for LaMelo Ball and Connanughton?
Kings get LaMelo as their long term point guard and pair him with Keon Ellis.
Your draft pick is expected to be 4th overall and if that’s the case take Caleb Wilson to be your PF next to Keegan Murray at the 3, then Raynaud the 5.
I’d try trade DeRozan for expiring deals but if not his deal only has 10 mil guaranteed and cutting him saves you 15mil. Then you have Pat (9m) and Saric (5m) as expiring deals also.
I’d do your best to try move off LaVine and Monk and then have your second unit looking like Schroder .. Clifford .. Cardwell.
Ball provides the scoring/playmaking to lead this team around. Keon is a very good defender to have next to him and prior to this up and down season he was an efficient shooter. Keegan and Caleb would make a great forward duo. Both switchable defenders, Keegan more of a shooter and Caleb more of an athletic finisher, both good on the glass. Raynaud at 7’1 looks a very promising centre.
Schroder thrives more as a sixth man, Clifford would be a good back up forward and would benefit from better playmaking, and Cardwell another rookie has been great as an impact big.
LaVine would be difficult to move off but if you can do that you don’t mind keep Monk for the bench.
As for the Hornets, Sabonis solidifies that centre spot and Kalkbrenner would be a good back up. Bridges the 4, Miller 3 and Kon 2. At the 1 you can look to draft a Brown/Flemmings/Philon but you also have Sexton (expiring deals), Mann and Carter.
In the second unit you have some combination of Mann Carter Green James McNeeley Salaun Williams Kalkbrenner. Not to mention to have the Suns pick (20) and thanks to the Kings picks 35 and 37 along with 45.
All of a sudden the Hornets could be a playoff side in the east with that team and that depth.
LaMelo screams Sacramento to me. I don’t know about all of the other moving parts you mentioned, but Ball landing in Sacramento would not surprise me. Low efficiency, high usage, team is always bad. Sounds like a King to me.
Yeah he is hahaha but think he could help them start a new era.
Ball Keon Murray Wilson Raynaud
He also grew up in LA and moving back closer to home on the West Coast, think it would be good for him.
All do respect for your lengthy proposal, but I can tell you haven’t watched this team play for more than maybe 3 games.
This exact type of thinking is why Sac has been in this position for so long. It’s not time to “retool”. It’s not time to take the garbage that other teams are looking to get rid of to get better. It’s time to suck and actually suck for multiple years. Get actual talented youth. This cycle can’t continue.
They haven’t been in this position for so long they’ve been worse that’s exactly why they should retool.
For the last 3 seasons before this one they have had 40 or more wins which for them is a good achievement. Before that they hadn’t won 40 or more games since the 05/06 season. For the last 2 decades they’ve sucked for years on year and it got them no where. For the last few seasons they’ve been half decent.
Plus it’s not like this trade screws you over at all, going from Sabonis to Melo you’re getting younger.
Melo (24) Ellis (25) Murray (25) Wilson (19) Raynaud (22) plus Clifford (23) and Cardwell (24)
You’d have a good young team that’ll only improve over time. It doesn’t cost you any picks. You’ve got a genuine all star that’ll sell tickets and jersey. You have good defenders, good shooters and some athleticism. Why would you not give this team a go and if it fails then rebuild ?
Because we have been doing that for 2 decades… the team you’re praising no longer exists. It died when Fox left.
If LaMelo is so good, why the hell can’t Charlotte make the playoffs? What does Sacramento have that Charlotte doesn’t?
Ball, Young, Garland, Morant – NO
Please go read anything that Scott Perry has said and tell me that you’re even close to the reality that is in front of us.
That team probably would still suck though
Team should acquire Dillon Brooks, not Jalen Green
IMO,
The most underrated player in the nba is Dillon Brooks
Dillon Brooks is better than Trey Murphy and Austin Reaves
But Dillon Brooks is an absolute idiot.
Giannis, Myles Turner and Thanasis for Jimmy, Kuminga, Hield and Podz.
Dumbest post ever
You said the same thing about Luka for AD.
Lakers already have a defensive genius….Bronny! Sure he’ll shoot 1-12 but at least he can defend a few shots unlike BK Luka.
I’ll take a Okoro for Rui trade !
Vooch to the warriors for KuminGa ?
