Jonathan Kuminga‘s first game with the Hawks on Tuesday was a resounding success, writes Paul Newberry of The Associated Press.
In 24 minutes off the bench, the former Warriors forward – who was dealt to Atlanta at the trade deadline – scored 27 points on 9-of-12 shooting to go along with seven rebounds, four assists, and a pair of steals. The Hawks outscored the Wizards by 16 minutes with Kuminga on the floor en route to a 119-98 victory.
As Lauren Williams of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution relays, head coach Quin Snyder told reporters after the game that Kuminga showed “a lot of maturity” by sharing the ball with his new teammates and letting the game come to him. The 23-year-old, whose Hawks debut was delayed due to a left knee bone bruise, said it hasn’t taken him long to get comfortable as he adjusts to his new club.
“I think is very simple,” Kuminga said. “It’s basketball at the end of the day. I try to be a student of the game, as much as I can to kind of be learning from other players here, from JJ (Jalen Johnson) and Nickeil (Alexander-Walker), just asking them questions about pretty much everything, just trying to pick their brain.”
We have more on the Hawks:
- Before Kuminga enjoyed a big Atlanta debut, the story entering Tuesday’s Hawks/Wizards matchup was Trae Young‘s return to his longtime NBA home. The veteran point guard, who made four All-Star teams during his time in Atlanta, still hasn’t played since being traded to Washington due to knee and quad issues, but he was on the Wizards’ bench and got emotional when the Hawks played a tribute video during the second quarter, writes Josh Robbins of The Athletic. “I just wanted the Hawks fans to know how much I love and appreciate them,” Young said before the game. “… The fans showed us so much love throughout the years that I was here, even the years that we were down. It felt like there was still a lot of love. So, I’ve got so much love for this city and these fans.”
- An otherwise positive night for the Hawks was marred to some extent by Jalen Johnson exiting Tuesday’s win in the first quarter due to a left hip flexor injury. The All-Star forward was ruled out for the rest of the game after being evaluated by the team’s training staff. “There was enough there not to send him back in the game,” Snyder explained, per ESPN. It’s unclear whether Johnson will miss additional time as a result of the injury.
- In case you missed it, former Hawk Nikola Djurisic is reportedly nearing a deal with the Serbian team Crvena Zvezda after having been waived by Atlanta last week.

Good game. It was never a question if he has talent. We just need to see him do a consistently. Hopefully he can build off of this performance. I’ll hold hold judgment because it did come against the wizards. Not really sure If the wizards are actually even developing players this year. Didn’t look like they had any plays. Young dudes just running around shooting the ball whenever they want.
This team needs to bring a coach in that can develop these young guys the rest of the season. Make them fight for minutes. Trae young should help when he returns in a couple weeks by getting teammates open and having the ball in his hands instead of letting these two-way players and young first round picks to shoot whenever they wanted
i do see him being able to average around 20 points a game. First game is against the Wizards so you can’t get too excited about the first game. I didn’t see the game so i don’t know how his defense played out. That was his problem Kerr’s switching on defense got him lost mnay times.
I watched the game and Kuminga was very active on the defensive end. He got 2 steals, some deflection, and stayed on the guys he was guarding. He bought into the game plan on both ends of the floor last night. What matters is consistency so we’ll see
@ Buying:
Lol, you’ve posted your (100% negative) judgement of Kuminga all season. I’m sure we’ll see that again as soon as he has a worse game.
My judgement was him thinking he was a 90 million dollar player. I was at the game last night and took my little well younger brother (31) to the game. The wizards played no defense and like my comment said I’m not even sure they are developing players. So I’m going to wait to see. I never said he didn’t have talent. I said unless he is consistent and ATL should make the playoffs it won’t translate into winning basketball. He could definitely average 20 on a losing team. But for now let’s see him when they play competition.
I say the same thing about the Lakers. And they get up in arms. There all quite now. Lakers can perform well against the bottom team. But get exposed Everytime they play a playoff team.
“let’s see him when they play competition”
He produced 30 pts on 11-18/3-4/5-6 vs the WCF Wolves in game 3 IN THE PLAYOFFS 2nd rd.
Or do you not consiuder that “competition”?
How many games did they win? Don’t worry I’ll wait. Avg 20 and losing means nothing
How absurd this comment is.
Kerr barely played him in the 1st rd, and so according to you him avging 20.8 ppg doesn’t count unless they win?
Team game, there were 5 other players who Kerr STARTED over Kuminga, why didn’t THEY lead GSW to any wins?
And yet they didn’t win. So scoring 20 did what to show you he can play winning basketball? You started your argument about me talking trash about him. I never said he was sorry what I said was he was not a 4 year 90 million dollar player. That’s what he asked for. I then described why he’s not a $90 million player because he’s inconsistent and other than his athleticism hasn’t shown one elite skill.
He then scored 20 points in his come out game on a new team against the worst team in the NBA. So I then said good start. Let’s see the consistency.
You than came with an insult saying I had anything nice to say about him which is not true because I just played back everything that I said. And when that was proven wrong you brought up a game from the playoffs he scored 20 points that they lost. You are now saying there were others on the court defecting from main point. Unless we see consistency against winning teams playing winning ball it more of the same.
So we can dead all the personal stuff I hope he pulls through and shows the consistency.
@ Buying buckets
FYI, doubling down on a bad take doesn’t make it better.
1 player in an 11-man rotation in a playoff series WHO WAS 5TH IN MINUTES PLAYED isn’t responsible for why the Warriors didn’t win. Kerr only knows Stephball, and he kept the Warriors playing the same way after Steph was injured.
Bro was DNP-CD since the play in game, the whole first round, and in the second game of round 2, thrown into the court like “OK, Curry got injured, save my season”. And scored 20.8 ppg with some 30+ point games, no Steph, and most games were close. Going from no playing to 1st offensive option (along Butler). Proven playoff performer, in my opinion.
Never a Question lol. Most of these Warrior fans have been trashing him for three years. They have no clue what talent looks like. I’m going to enjoy this SO Much now.
As a Warriors fan I would do ANYTHING to replace Kerr with Snyder. Kerr can’t stop doing smallball and it does not work in this league anymore.
I miss Kuminga already. Kerr is a lunatic and a basketball terrorist, he has nothing to stand on in terms of his own job – he stinks at every single aspect of the job and the work he is supposed to do. Classic washup who refuses to retire. Go hang on a beach and smoke weed, dude, its clearly what you want to do, where your head is at….
A lunatic basketball terrorist LMAO!!!
I cant get over how pathetic they have to be to make muting callout posts without directing it to the person they are muting. I don’t respect anyone on here who mutes me, because all I do is talk hoops, and all these clowns do is talk about me, which causes me to defend myself and all it ends up is slop. This is entirely anonymous, its not that serious. Leave me alone!!!
I think it’s weird that you’re all adults acting like this. Them and you lol
I dont even care, I never asked people to RUN to these comments to make specific posts about ME. I am not the NBA! I never wanted this! Why cant these clowns just shut up about me??!
Ever notice how I never do that to anyone? I make comments based on the topic header. Raz is so wrong: a post about Kuminga absolutely has to do with Kerr. Kerr literally tried to ruin his career for no reason, we should be cursing Kerr out every Kuminga post, and that happens on twitter and instagram millions of times but when I do it on here, raz cries like a baby for no reason. I just dont understand why they cant just ignore me, like I ignore them? They are vastly more immature than I am here.
Full of lies.
You make comments about them all the time too. In response.
But bro I consider you a part of the community. To me, you are. And you’re cool. You are definitely emotional about stuff tho.
I came on here and saw an article and tried to poke a little fun at you using things you’ve said to me or posted in the past with some added exaggerational humor and you got FEMALE MAD at me. I never intended to upset you but damn bro! Lol
Ain’t trying to egg you on or anything right now either I’m just saying man be cool. Relax. Have fun with what these folks are saying. It’s anonymous so as long as you ain’t out here Hitler’n people it’s gonna be alright. Don’t take them seriously!
“poke a little fun at you” “with some added exaggerational humor”
but dude, do you not understand there are already hundreds of comments -about- me on here? That are mostly lies? Maybe dont add to that? I literally have to mute certain posters, every once in a while I will unmute everyone and then the worst offenders will literally IMMEDIATELY call me slurs lmao like, these are actual psychopaths. No thanks.
If someone calls someone out, you cant then call the person “emotional” for reacting to that. What would you prefer I do? I am muting all these clowns but muting does not go 2-ways for some reason, which leads to these parasocial-type issues where people hunt and mass harass others on here. I’m not the only poster this happens to, this “make a comment calling out another poster instead of talking about the headline of the post” crap seems to have floated over from the MLB rumors site. But man, its so trash, it does not look good, its all bad for this site and its posters. Its low rent. Just mute and ignore someone who makes you mad, its simple.
Slurs? And the comments were approved?
Yup! Also someone tried to get me to meet them IRL for a fistfight…so insane…I think they got banned…oh well!!!
Try to relax more and not let it bother you man it’s not good for your health.
I am perfectly relaxed, I’m not the one on here calling others slurs. You are kinda gaslighting right now, in case you didnt know. You are blaming me for others actions and saying I’m the one who needs to calm down? I’m perfectly calm, my health is totally fine, its all these people making callout posts about me who are VERY mentally unwell. Stop blaming me for this, that is some “female mad” type crud you need to be pointing at THEM, not ME.
Jeez dude I’m not gaslighting I said try to relax. I’m over here trying to help. Nowhere did I blame you for others actions.
You said “try to relax” and “it’s not good for your health” but its all these crybabies who are the ones who need to relax, its them who talk about me – thats whats not good for someones mental health. I am the most mentally healthy person on here by a million miles. I am perfectly relaxed at all times, I thought you of all people understood this, thats why I think you are gaslighting when you lie to my face telling me to “relax” lol
Full on narcissism at play here with you right now. Telling you to relax is not a lie, nor is it gaslighting.
I’m done with this convo bud. You can’t be helped. But I wont stop being your homie in the comments tho
I wonder how many people are on the paranoid NPD guy’s mute list – I’m betting at least half of the regular posters here.
I have no beef with you, but you are weirdly blaming me here for other people being psychopaths towards me, when all I do is talk ball.
I’m not blaming you for anything dude. They’re going to do their thing right? The only thing you can control is how you react to it. That’s all I’m trying to talk to you about. That’s all. Any reactions from you will just continue to create more of what you don’t want. The only one in control of your emotions is you man. If you don’t respond to it then they’ll probably stop commenting @ you much.
You’re not listening to me though you’re just responding.
I’m listening, you aren’t saying anything.
Just put them all under this same microscope too, ok? Call out Gary’s racist hatred of Moses Moody a bit more, ok?
I’ve never seen him be racist or I probably would dude? I’m not calling you out. I’m trying to get you to turn the other cheek.
Not saying ANYTHING? LOL
I’m starting to get it now, unfortunately. :/
“I’m trying to get you to turn the other cheek.”
I mean, this really shows your true intentions here. You are trying to change how I act – no sale. Dont ever tell me what to do. Ever.
Are you deficient? I never told you what to do before.
I will now tho
Suck it.
Last night, Trayce Jackson-Davis was subbed in with 8.7 seconds remaining, grabbed a missed free throw and immediately called timeout, and then was subbed out again with 8.4 seconds remaining.
He played 0.3 seconds and got 1 rebound, that’s 7,200 rebounds per 36 minutes! Why did GSW get rid of that guy?! lol
Dont bother responding to him, hell keep on moving goalposts to better fit his views.
I tried. Just wanted to help him. Moving on tho lol
Muting is weak, just like your frequent crying about it is.
Hold your horses, Kuminga was playing against a g league team. He had many flashes like this at GS too, let’s see if he’s consistent.
Consistency has definitely been an issue.
We’ve seen this movie before with Kuminga……wait until he does his 1for 7 stuff
Feeling salty?
For his career Kuminga averages 20 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists per 36 minutes.
If you want to hate, do so, but Kuminga is a good player and everyone knows it.
I disagree with you Ghost. He has no skills. He has athleticism and that goes a long way.
I try to be as honest as possible, and I don’t think I’m in the salty group. I try to see the game for what it is my team or not.
I blame the Warriors, but not for the reason most have.
I think they drafted horribly. The development is on the player. You have to want it. Look at Moody‘s 3 point shooting as a perfect example.
The guy is a knock down three but was not when he came in the league. That’s time in the gym and hard work.
Ghost, kuminga is only 23 so if he continues to push himself and be coachable he’ll be fine.
It’s hard to develop consistency when your coach is pulling you as a young player and your minutes fluctuate heavily while Podz has been given a longer leash despite a much lower developmental ceiling.
I always go back to Kerr playing Anthony Lamb (who will never see an NBA court again + did weird sex pest stuff) over both excellent citizens and great teammates in Kuminga and Moody. Does he play LJ Cryer over Podz? Nope.
He’s not wrong though. We have seen enough inconsistent play from him for last few years. I honestly think it’s time he shows a bit consistency and potential when he was selected 7th.
I think practically all warrior fans want him to succeed in Atlanta or elsewhere.
You have to pull for the kid.., I mean, why not?
But it wasn’t working with the Warriors and I would’ve been the first to sign up to drive him to the airport three years ago.
I’m just glad that my fellow Bulls fans (IRL) who kept gaslighting me saying JK to Bulls talk is done. -_-
You have no idea how much it was painful for me to even think that could happen.
Been saying it for last year or so, he is TJ Warren with more athleticism.
Yeah, you kinda know it probably won’t work out when he’s 6-6 or 6-7 and they say his best position is power forward.
He should’ve spent the same amount of time as Moody did working on that three ball. Just that alone would help his game takeoff immensely.
3 pint ball and handles and playmaking is what he needs to focus on this summer. If he can do those at a great rate he will be a really good and consistent player.
The problem with most basketball fans is they don’t understand if you only have 1 skill and you have a off night or bad streak. We all have them. It’s not NBA 2K. You will not be effective to winning basketball. If my jumper isn’t going. I can play off the ball playmake rebound. Impact the game in different ways.
I know you know this I’m just speaking in general.
It actually will probably work out.
I’m pulling for him. A kid who can likely make a huge difference, pull up a whole generation of his family if he manages big money correctly. Had the guts to stand up to power. Wow!
As soon as the Warriors traded to Butler, you just knew JK was going to have problems seeing the floor.
I honestly think that if the Warriors hadn’t gotten Butler, this whole issue was going to be moot (although it felt like JK was always getting hurt right after he had a good sequence of games prior to the trade).
and this all comes back to KD blocking the GSW trade. If we got KD instead of Jimmy, then Kuminga probably becomes the Wiggins/Barnes guy he should have been, but Kerr decided to play him at center with 4 SGs.
You never muted me, I can reply to you.
Davey is the guy whose takes are the sports equivalent of belching at your grandmother’s Thanksgiving table. Kuminga turning in a good line in a Hawks uniform just has to be Kerr’s fault.
LOL !!!!!!!!
Kerr is the one that pushed him out.
I think Kerr does deserve some fault for failing to develop young players. Granted, that’s not the priority he had when you have a Steph Curry on your team, but Kerr is not blameless.
We saw it when Butler went out and Kuminga dropped 20. Guarantee Kerr was going to start giving him much more time out of necessity, and Kuminga is far from perfect or consistent, but a young player with this potential, there’s really no excuse for him getting all those DNPs in a row this season except trying to show him the door
Warriors didn’t know what they were doing with Kuminga or Wiseman. Drafting 18-19 yr olds. Is ALL about development. Kerr only wanted certain things. So he could better fit them in. These so called Warrior fans only trashed JK. Cause he didn’t save them. Not every talent is a good fit with teams. Doesn’t mean you give up. You make them better players to trade them. SO YOUR TEAM CAN GET VALUE FOR HIM …
All of you see life as a glass half empty. So you really don’t understand that.
For three yrs. I told you all he needs is to get away from Kerr and Warriors. Now you will see him find his game. Young players develop on their time. Not a teams time clock. That’s called Developing Young Talent.

Kerr is not a coach to do a rebuild with. That is why I see him leaving very soon. He also plays favorites instead of being patient. It took him a long time to see how Moody is a solid player. He has been riding Curry’s coattails for his whole time. Notice how Curry goes down and the team is horrible.
I get that. But Warriors have GMs and scouts. They can step in and right the ship. I understand Kerr not having the patience. So you make sure as a Team. To get him right and trade him. Why the drama lol. All of you supported Kerr. So don’t act like the innocent one now. If you can’t wait in a player. Ir you can’t develop him to your liking. Move on ….. just move on and trade him. Warriors would have been better off trading those lottery picks. For young vets they liked. Those were very valuable picks. You can’t rush developing 18 yr olds. You see Moody now co
Ing along. Every player is different.
i have been calling out Kerr for a while. I even said he should be playing Kuminga not sit him on the bench. The problem with the warriors is they got settled in because of winning. Now you have the team being pulled in 3 different areas. Kerr is losing his hold on the team. If you been watching the warriors you would see his pull is getting less and less.
Yeah Curry, Dra, Jimmy getting old lol …. Can’t last for ever. Father time is undefeated.
Kerr isn’t a coach you can do anything with, he was horrible even when they won titles. Curry is so good Kerr fumbled his career and he still won 4 rings…Mark Jackson and Steph would have 8 rings right now if the Dubs never made the terrible choice to go with an untested nepo hoops terrorist who named his son Nick on purpose.
….against the Wizards
He’s scored 20 or more points in 48 of 279 possible games.
