The Suns are expected to waive Cole Anthony, according to John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7 (Twitter link).
Phoenix acquired the sixth-year guard in a three-team trade last week. It was a salary-dump move for the the Suns, who have several guards on their roster.
Anthony has yet to report to the team and may not end up doing so; head coach Jordan Ott said on Saturday that the two sides were still working through the situation.
“I think they’re still determining that. Working through that as we speak,” Ott said.
The 15th overall pick in the 2020 draft, Anthony spent his first five NBA seasons with Orlando, averaging 12.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists on .419/.345/.847 shooting in 320 games (24.8 minutes per contest). However, his minutes have declined over the past few years and he was traded to Memphis in the offseason as part of the Desmond Bane blockbuster.
Anthony reached a buyout agreement with the Grizzlies and signed a one-year, minimum-salary contract with the Bucks. He averaged 6.7 PPG, 2.5 RPG and 3.5 APG on .424/.306/.615 shooting in a career-low 15.1 minutes per game in 35 appearances with Milwaukee this season.
Anthony is still just 25 years old and has been productive in the past, though he’s never been the most efficient scorer (his true shooting percentage is a career-low 48.3% in 2025/26). Teams looking for backup ball-handling help might give him a look if and when he officially parts ways with Phoenix.

Bulls need more and more guards
One more of these Cam Thomas-types, can be a firebrand on offense yet tunnel-visioned, inefficient, doesn’t contribute much in the “winning-plays” category.
I’m sure, some pro team can have use for him though.
He is more likable than Cam though and Greg Anthony is liked around the league. He was not going to get playing time with Suns.
Unfortunately, it would take forever for Greg Anthony to get himself back into nba playing shape, at 58 years old.
But, I agree… he is well-liked around the league.
Tough, hardnosed player.
He should stay in the tv booth, in my opinion.
Rockets need a PG—- can’t believe Suns wouldn’t play him.
He’s not going to play over Booker, Green, Gillespie, Allen, or Goodwin. Pry why he didn’t report because he knew he wasn’t going to get any run.
or even Bouyea
SUNS FO have turned the page since demoting Jones – high priority on team first, winning-players.
They might’ve see the kid, someone who might rock the boat …… they have a good thing going on now. Or Cole’s was a victim of these salary/numbers games.
Yes, ROCKETS, BULLS (I kid) can use a PG playing spot minutes.
He’s still young. He’s had some good games against Knicks. Kind of shocked really.
Rockets or Nuggets(seems like a better option than Bum Knee Ball). Due to his dad he will get another shot more likable.
Warriors?
Probably not in my opinion. Seems like Pat Spencer has proven He belongs and is handling the job well as the backup to the backup point guard.
They already don’t have enough minutes for Richard and you hope to give Podski and Moody as many minutes as possible in the back court.
Sixers?
Rockets really need PG help. Just someone who can quickly move the ball up and set a pick/screen and get free again.
If the NYK didn’t get Alvarado, I would think they’d at least kick the tires on Cole.
FWIW, comparing him to Cam Thomas could be the basis of a defamation claim. Cole is scoring PG, who is not a great facilitator, but he’s not a black hole and is a relatively high IQ player. He lacks the physical attributes (size in particular) to be much on defense, but he certainly plays hard on that end. I don’t like his game (skill set), and believed he’s been overrated since HS (as can often be the case with NYC high school players). But he’s NOT Cam Thomas. As far as anyone I’ve spoken with who’s familiar with him, he’s a good teammate. A good add at minimum for the right team.
