Warriors coach Steve Kerr said he made a “stupid mistake” while discussing Kristaps Porzingis‘ health issues during an appearance Friday on a radio show, writes Evan Webeck of The California Post. Kerr explained that Porzingis, who missed his fourth straight game tonight, is suffering from a contagious illness that’s causing him to lose “a lot” of fluids. However, he said it’s not postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS). Kerr was relaying information from Hawks general manager Onsi Saleh, who formerly worked in Golden State’s front office and traded Porzingis to the Warriors at the deadline.
“I called him and I said is this POTS story real? He said it’s actually not POTS. That was some misinformation that was out there,” Kerr said during his radio interview. “I don’t know if anybody’s asked him about it. Bottom line is whatever was bothering him in Atlanta that was keeping him out has nothing to do with the illness last week. He was just sick.”
Kerr apologized Saturday for the misunderstanding and said Porzingis is being afflicted by a “medical issue way beyond my capabilities of explaining.”
“It was a stupid mistake by me to talk about something that I’m not qualified to talk about,” Kerr added. “So I regretted even trying to discuss the diagnosis. That was my mistake. I need to leave that to the professionals.”
Porzingis has only made one 17-minute appearance for the Warriors since the trade, but Webeck states that he returned to practice on Friday and Kerr said he’s feeling better.
There’s more on the Warriors:
- Stephen Curry said he’s not quite ready to return in an interview during the telecast of Saturday’s game, relays Angelina Martin of NBC Sports Bay Area. He missed his 10th straight game due to runner’s knee. “It’s going to be a little longer, but, like I said, right now with this one, it’s just about each day,” Curry told ABC’s Malika Andrews. “Can you stack good days, and I’ve done that, so hopefully they can unleash me on the court soon, and like I said, get back out there sooner than later.”
- Gui Santos, who signed a three-year extension on Saturday, said it’s a result of doing what the Warriors have asked of him, per Nick Friedell of The Athletic. Santos has been able to work his way into the starting lineup after being drafted with the 55th pick in 2022. “I think the key word for that is patience,” he said. “Because when I got here, I was a point guard. Playing back in Brazil was like playing as a point guard, having the ball in my hand. Then I spent the whole year in the G League just learning how to fit in the system here. Because my goal always was playing in the NBA, playing for the Warriors. And I asked them what I got to do to do that, and they said, ‘We’re gonna give you the way. You got to play hard on defense, you got to be crashing the boards all the time, and you just got to find Steph — it’s easy.’ So I said, ‘All right, I’m doing that.’ I was just working at that in my first couple years.”
- The Warriors’ injury list grew longer when guard Will Richard was forced out of Saturday’s game with a sprained right ankle, the team announced (via Twitter).

Well, we’ll see how it goes for the Warriors. Are they in? Are they out?
Huge loss to the crappy Lakers who are not a powerhouse right now. Not sure what the future holds for Golden State?
You have to think that if Steph comes back and the unicorn comes back that they would make a run but losses like tonight really don’t help a lot.
Very troublesome, murky Waters as we sit right now.
I think it is best to not worry about the playoffs this year. I don’t think they push Steph with his runners knee. It can linger a longtime if you don’t treat it right. I think Celebrini might be able to work some magic with the unicorn.
I think there are two transactions that a lot of people missed. The Warriors made a gleague trade for Charles Bassey, and played really well. He came back from a 10 day contract with Sixers. There is supposedly a bit of buzz around the league. Might he be on next year’s roster? KP/Bassey/Post/Horford? Lot to work with there.

Yes, but the odds of that are vanishingly small… Steph indicated in an interview tonight that his return is not imminent… as for the unicorn, no news is bad news

WTF is a unicorn. More like the walking DNP
I think what you meant is Curry n Jimmy. Sorry Warriors fan doesn’t know who his players are …..
That’s what llsing to Kakers by 30 does .. looney tunes
If basketball reference didn’t exist you wouldn’t know who’s on the Warriors either
Sucks we likely will never see Curry Moody Butler Green Porzingis or Horford in a rotation together – I’m saying they could beat OKC in a playoffs series. OKC still mentally a weak team, these guys are as tough as it gets
Sucks all we ever see is more Podz
This roster has a sky high ceiling
But everyone is injured
And too much Podz
Warriors fans get use to it …. practice niw

Santos leadingscorer 14 pts. Congrats on ne contract lol. Kumings wishing you the best 👏👏
So what if the Warriors are a lottery team this season. 26 is supposed to be a good draft.
It is enjoy it …. try not to miss again.
At this point the Knicks look like they’ll make it exactly one round further than the Warriors in the playoffs.
The Warriors are such an odd team right now, Steph and the way young players have to adapt to playing with him, actually cost them games and confuses lower BBIQ guys (like Kuminga). These non-Curry games are allowing GSW to explore more rotations for when Curry comes back, this can be a really good thing.
But with tonights game, once again Kerr starts Dray at C and Moody at PF…which is just a horrifyingly terrible choice. Why does Kerr do this? No size = unlimited points. I thought Kerr knew about defense?
If Warriors don’t shoot well. They lose. It’s why Kerr carries all perimeter players. Goes with ones shooting well. He plays perimeter D to try and limit other team from shooting. This is the analytics of shooting threes.
Works better when you have two of best 3pt shooters ever. Unfortunately he still hasn’t figured that out yet.
The game is 50% defense. When you lose to a bad defensive team. By 30 ……. That should tell you something …..
It is even worse when you have a bad defensive center like Raynaud
Warriors play no interior D. You don’t even realize what you say. By your standards he fits right in. For all Davey is. He is the only one who understands what the Warriors do. The rest of you just hope they win.
Kerr puts these small ball lineups out there (tonight it was Podz/Melton/Moody – 3 Shooting Guards with Dray as the undersized Center and Gui as the only guy in his regular position) because they are supposed to score. But these dudes aren’t elite scorers.
At that point, you pivot to defense/IQ. Go with Melton Moody Santos Green Horford and you don’t get blown out in the first quarter, and you stay in the game a lot longer. Horrific coaching by Steve tonight, once again. Hmm I wonder in the next game if he will put the starters back out there to start the 3rd quarter, even though he does not have to do that? Why telegraph your moves like that? Such a lazy “professional”.
Even worse, ol’ head idiot in charge seems to want to make Moses Moody a 6’4″ Power Forward, when he is an elite 3 and D Shooting Guard. Why god, why? Just playing him at the 2!
That’s the issue: Warriors have literally 7 Shooting Guards for some reason, and even more baffling, Kerr wants to play as many of them as possible! Nobody knows why. They are all middling offensively. Moody, Melton (who plays both SG/PG) and Richard are the only true system fits. But there is no Poole or prime Klay here. Kerr running out the same 2022 rotations, but without those two = Kerr not adjusting = Kerr being terrible at his job. So sick of his utter incompetence. I can literally do better than him. Anyone can. Luke Walton is better at coaching the Warriors than Steve ever was.
Ha. Poole can’t get of the bench in New Orleans. Walton only won by playing Kerr’s offense. He was fired twice when he tried to install his own system.
Warriors need to scoop up Tyus Jones and sign him to 3 yr partial guarantee min contract.
Forget Lonzo.
God, I wish. They can let Pat walk at the end of the year, and only play him vs tanking teams from here on out. Tyus Jones is 500x the player Pat Spencer is and would be a perfect Steph true backup (that Kerr will also play at Power Forward for some reason, to horrendous results).
Watch out for what you wish for. We don’t have the size or athleticism to cover for Tyus’ defensive deficiencies.
Dude, he destroys Pat Spencer defensively. That’s who he would be effectively replacing.
If you prefer getting Lonzo I get it though. I don’t hate that idea either. Wish they would make a move soon though.
Davey, Jones is a midget. He’s one of about 5 guards in the league that offenses will attack on virtually every possession. We don’t have the size to protect him.
We don’t have the size to protect any of our ten (10) guards if you wanna go there.
Jones has a longer wingspan than Desmond Bane, I don’t see a problem. I would way rather have Jones instead of Spencer. Spencer is so bad dude.
So wait: Porzingis does not have the condition known as POTS? He is contagious though!? WTF! Seems like a big difference. Right?
This is nuts. Agree that the dubs should aim for the lottery and hopefully all you conspiracy nut jobs are right and Silver gives them a top five pick!
