February 5: The trade is official, the Warriors announced (via Twitter) The Hawks confirmed the deal as well in a press release.
February 4: The Warriors will trade Jonathan Kuminga and Buddy Hield to the Hawks in exchange for Kristaps Porzingis, sources tell ESPN’s Shams Charania (Twitter link). It’s a straight player exchange with no draft picks involved, according to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line (Twitter link).
The deal ends Kuminga’s long saga with Golden State, which was highlighted by occasional moments of brilliance mixed with frustration over not being able to land a consistent starting role or regular playing time during his five seasons with the team. He was hoping for an exit during restricted free agency last summer, but he didn’t receive an offer sheet and the Warriors shut down any idea of a sign-and-trade despite interest from Sacramento and Phoenix.
Kuminga received several contract offers from Golden State during the process, but he was reluctant to agree to anything that included a team option. He relented shortly before the start of training camp and accepted a deal with a $22.5MM salary for this season and a $24.3MM team option for 2026/27 that will now be controlled by Atlanta.
That agreement also featured a trade kicker, which would be worth roughly $1.3MM at this point, notes ESPN’s Bobby Marks (Twitter link).
Over the past few weeks, several teams expressed interest in trading for Kuminga, who has only been available for 20 games this season, but the Warriors were hesitant to take back long-term money in any deal. Instead they get Porzingis, whose $30.7MM expiring contract will give them financial flexibility for the offseason.
Golden State may be interested in a longer arrangement with the 30-year-old big man, as Charania reports that they’ve viewed Porzingis as a potential target for the past two months in their search for another stretch five. Porzingis is a career 36.6% shooter from long distance and played a vital role on Boston’s championship team two years ago, though he has been limited to 17 games this season and is currently sidelined with an illness, which has been a recurring issue for the past year.
After missing an extended stretch of time down the stretch and in the playoffs last season, Porzingis was diagnosed with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS). He said in the fall that he was confident about managing the condition, but he has had repeated absences due to illness this season.
Hield, 33, gives Atlanta another outside shooter after sending Vit Krejci to Portland earlier this week. He’s under contract for $9.7MM next season, but only $3MM of that is guaranteed until the day after the draft.
The Hawks could decide to waive both players and have $25MM in cap space this summer, according to Yossi Gozlan of The Third Apron (Twitter link). He adds that they could also use Kuminga’s Non-Bird rights to give him a new contract worth up to $116MM over four years — they likely wouldn’t have to go that high if the plan is to re-sign the forward.
Parting with Kuminga likely signals the end of the Warriors’ pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo before the trade deadline. Marc Stein of The Stein Line notes (via Twitter) that he was a central part of Golden State’s offer, which likely reduces the Bucks‘ options to Miami and Minnesota if they’re determined to move him on Thursday.
Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints reports that the Warriors contacted Milwaukee several times this week with an offer for Antetokounmpo centered around Kuminga, Draymond Green, Brandin Podziemski and multiple first-round picks. After receiving a “clear indication” that the Bucks wouldn’t accept that deal, they pivoted to their pursuit of Porzingis.

Thank god this ridiculous saga is over
For real….. sigh
Need the Braveheart “Freedom” gif here lol
For some reason I think he will be flipped for either a player or dract capital. Since he has a 1 year deal when he goes FA at the end of the year GSW will be under the cap to sign better free agents.
Who was it that told you. He should have been moved at draft. After his showing against TWolves ……. Al knows Ball
like I said the owner loved Kuminga and refused to trade him. They should have traded him before the draft not after the draft
He was worth more at the draft. Peak
not saying he wasn’t. He was more valuable at the draft
it feels kinda like bucks were just USING gsw to get more assets from other teams! #arc
They were. If they liked the offer of draft picks they would have taken it because they were not getting more picks. Only other thing is Giannis not wanting to go to warriors because he would not be top dog over Curry
You keep believing that ….. Giannis will be top 5 in History when he is thru. I don’t believe in best ever. I say top ten or top 5. Cause this is a team game.
I dont think they will. Steph/Butler/Green still make like 145M combined, so pretty sure they cant get to cap room, at least not enough for a meaningful addition.
Gsw will not be under the cap even if Kp walks
Nobody wants KP lol.
Unfortunately he’s going to a place where he won’t get mins. Unkess Hawks are moving Risacher ….
“Unfortunately he’s going to a place where he won’t get mins.”
He won’t get minutes anywhere because he’s always injured.
I meant JK in Atlanta . …. blew that
Oh, sorry. You’re right about that one, too.
Still bitter?
Why …… ???? KP ran himself out of town. He’s done nothing since. Why would anyone care what he does or doesn’t do …..
He has reinvented himself in spurts. I think it doesn’t move the needle for the year at all. I sense some history here is all
Not with me. KP treated NY wrong cause ge got a big head when city went crazy for him. I’m about the game. When he got hurt. He was never the same afterwards. He became just a shooter. Overrated and needs right fit to be effective.
But like this? I mean I see Kristaps and I jut think why. Like I do not understand the thinking behind trading for a guy who cant play that looks like his career may be medically over.
No Giannis trade now without the Butler money.
MDJ is and idiot I would sit on those guys if your tanking out and let Kuminga rehab value while playing. Why trade for a guy who cant play?
maybe Curry and Butler were lonely on the bench with injured players.
$30 mil expiring….welcome to San Francisco LeBron.
So your trading him and draymond before the new league year after the season for an expiring LBJ you have to extend? Otherwise they still have like 180M in payroll even without KP/KJ/BH.
Long time between now and the off season. I’m sure Rich can get Draymond to do LBJ a solid. Nothing stopping warriors from making moves in the off season.
Guys we are all missing the bigger story which is how in the world was Davey J wrong? He’s been guaranteeing Giannis to the Warriors was a done deal, even called hisself a basketball wizard. I’m just dying to know his thoughts on this 😂.
Will just move onto happening in the off season.
A flabby and sick LeBron would fit in perfectly with that team.
That’s not gonna happen but how did GSW fans get so entitled? It’s insane how y’all think everyone wants to go there or GSW is getting every big name, even though LeBron is old, diminishing & probably not gonna be around much longer.
perhaps to use KP expiring 30 mil contract in the off season???
His contract is expiring. They can’t use it in the off season. And I will laugh at anyone who tries to claim they can do a sign and trade with Porzingis.
$30 million puts the warriors under the salary cap so now they can sign real free agents instead of bottom basements ones like that last few years.
No it doesnt. They still have over 180M in salary on the books even if they let KP walk, and will be in the tax if they sign him to anything but a min type deal.
The cap amount is 187 next year. It will give them a little more m,aneuver ability than they had the last few years.
I mean they will have the MLE and a couple small non min deals. Its really not enough to augment this roster with what it needs to get up to speed. Heres hoping they realize its over this season and tank hard. There will also be a cap hold on the 1st rounder pushing them up to the line if its good at all for its slot value.
The cap situation will be similar to what it was the season before last after the Klay trade. They probably need at least 3 rotation players with at least one being at min a role player star like Murphy III in order to really compete with Jimmy still missing part of the season and returning from injury. Or they could DAL into the first pick and have Peterson as the young star.
Problem is too many already tanking in the west. best pick they could get is the 10th pick in the draft.
If they found a way to mostly shut down Steph/Dray/Horford/KP they might lose the rest of the way. You can probably find injuries to take those guys out and be cautious. I mean the Jazz just got JJJ I think they could actually get passed by all but the PEL/SAC west and Nets/WAS/IND in the east. Even Sac might accidentally win too many games. You would have to aggressively do it right now so you finish like 30-52 in order to sneak into the top 5 or 6. It would set you up for at least a top 10 pick in a loaded lottery.
The Butler injury really sucks. They easily would have won 3 of the games since, and been right in the hunt for top 4, with a much different deadline move sending Kuminga out for actual help. They go and win too many to tank, and then lose most of the non Steph scoring/creation. They look like a bad team with Steph nursing a sore knee, and even if healthy still punting on B2B.
i have a feeling Curry’s knee is worse than they are letting on. The only cure for runner’s knee is a lot of rest. I would not doubt resting him for most of the year unless they get into the play in. Warriors #1 goal should be finding that #3 scorer with all the players they have. Maybe even take a chance on Thomas promising him minutes to sign a contract.
Thomas won’t last long, GSW’s problem is still cap space.
MDJ’s deadline:
Kristaps Porzingis, Pat Spencer and a 2026 2RP for Jonathan Kuminga, Buddy Hield and Trayce Jackson-Davis. Not too bad, honestly.
Are we thinking GSW acquires another guard to take that last roster place or nah? I think Conley is the high IQ type they could really use.
Giannis said “no thank you” to joining the Warriors, or he would be there…
Whoop-de-do. The 4 picks they would have sent to the Bucks would have been a disaster
Porzingis on the warriors will be fun they finally have a stretch 5
He is as injured or more injured than AD. He gets sick a lot.
If he plays like his Celtics or wizards version the warriors could have a shot at being the 4th best team behind the thunder and spurs and nuggets
West is so stacked this year you can make big trade deadline deals like this but still get bounced in the 1st round
Can KP still play period?
A broken one
He has started 12 games this season and is out again with “illness”. He is cashing his last checks and done as a meaningful player. If Kristaps is lucky he may get around the TPMLE after his inability to play.
I’m a Hawks fan so I know how this goes. When he gets “injured” he misses at least 3 consecutive games and then when he is available to return he gets sick again and misses a few more. He has played 17 games total so the Warriors are only getting a few games out of him. It’s going to be a headache.
Porzingis is like a desert mirage at this point. It is all just theoretical.
They never won with a stretch 5 and all their championships followed the same recipe
This wont work at all, they dont a 5 that shoots, they need a 5 that passes the ball, sets screens and protects the rim
Porz career stats include 1.8 bpg – so he does protect the rim.
This is bananas 🍌
Lmao well hopefully this kills the dumb GSW getting GA talk. Oh wait media will talk up KP like he is top 5.
They have the best offer on the table. It just sounds like MIL will wait till the offseason and hope for someone new to come to the table.
Best offer? No young talent with upside. Picks are pretty lame especially if Warriors spend in fa for another star and build a competent team to make the picks trash.
NYK have literally no offer but KAT. MIA has a couple young players not much better than the ones GSW would send and can send half the 1sts. MIN has no picks and apparently cant find trade partners stupid enough to give them a boat load for Randle and Donte. So who exactly is beating GSW offer?
They wont trade him till the summer because they think a team like the Spurs might throw in a bunch of picks, and a couple recent high lottery picks if they flame out.
KAT is better than any player on GSW he can be flipped to another team for actual assets unlike Moody and freaking Podz.
Heat have Herro, Jaquez, and Ware alone has more upside.
Minn has McDaniels 1st team all def and all star level. Randle would be flipped for picks in another deal.
Raptors could come back in use Barnes or RJ with more picks than GSW and picks from other teams.
Hou Jabari Smith, Sheppard and another for salary is better than GSW players.
KAT is worthless. You may have to attach picks to him with the amount owed and his production. Look at what JJJ got. The JJJ contract is way way better than KATs.
None of the MIA players have star potential. GSW have more picks and the picks are worth more since teams will project them to bottom out after Steph. McDaniels is not worth Giannis, and they have nothing else worth much.
Like you get that with all these offers the players are salary filler/fliers and the real value is the picks. None of these teams have put a real blue chip prospect on the table.
Those players and young Heat guys are way better than the Warriors young guys man.
The players would be mostly filler and fliers. You need to be able to give MIL your draft for the next 7 years.
Have you noticed it’s only some Warriors fans thinking Golden State have the best package. Or are you swallowing everything ESPN says as gospel hook line and sinker?
Herro was an all star who brings big game experience and isn’t old like Draymond. Ware has big upside in comparison to a Podz. As does Jacquez jr and Jovic. It’s not happening, move on.
Every smart NBA analyst thinks the future GSW picks are super valuable. Its why Sam is on game theory talking them up. Like NBA teams project other teams futures and try and project the pick value. The only picks worth more than future GSW ones are from SAC or ones that would be high in this draft. 27 is supposed to be a mediocre year, and by 28 who knows how Steph will be.
The opposite would be OKC whos 1sts should be around 30th each year. So good young teams like OKC/SAS cant get good value from their own future picks.
Every smart analyst? Got me there, who? Talking heads under instructions bro. Warriors, Lakers etc is big business. Why would the media push these narratives. You think it’s got something to do with ratings or hits?
I listen to most of the main NBA podcasts, which are hosted by all the NBA analysts from the different networks, and they all say GSW have the best package on the table for Giannis now based on the reporting, and that the future GSW picks are very very valuable.
Some of the ones I trust best for both talent evaluation, and being deep enough in NBA FOs to know the scuttlebutt around the league have talked repeatedly about the value of future GSW picks. Its based on teams knowing Steph is retiring at some point soon, other teams not trusting Lacob to not meddle, and most thinking MDJ is pretty new on the job and not ready to rebuild on the fly without Steph or picks, and the fact they have no core to build around under 30 just role players.
@Chapmansvacuum- did any of these smart analysts who are deep in NBA FO’s predict this move or even offer it as a possibility? Or the JJJ move?
Also the GSW picks are currently valued highly. Wouldn’t their value change if they bring Giannis onto the team for the next half decade? Just like the Bucks picks value sky rocket if they trade Giannis, the value of the picks of whoever gets him would surely decrease a similar amount.
Its not about prediction. Its a simple fact the reported offers the GSW is clearly the best.
Giannis is 31, and if you have no picks it will be hard to bring in young talent. Maybe you can keep a good supporting cast around for the first couple years, but as Steph and Giannis age/retire it looks better. Obviously the most valuable are the later picks that would come at a time when you would expect whats left of this roster to not be very good. The downside would be Giannis signing long term, and remaining a force for more than the next 4 seasons while the team is able to rebuild on the fly when Steph retires through cap room, and savvy trades and signings. I think the NBA thinks that would be hard to pull off and that if this team unloads all its draft capital it will bottom out for multiple seasons at some point between now and 33.
The offer could get better this summer as well since it seems like with these moves they are going complete tank commander to try and get down in the 6-9 range odds wise and maybe pick up a mid to high lottery pick that would be a premium asset along with the picks in 29-33.
Ok forget about predicting it. I take it as a no then that the trade was ever even mentioned as a possibility then on any of the hours upon hours of speculative broadcasting. Seems weird if all these guys are so well connected as you’ve said that they had as much a clue as you or I that this is the end result.
Yeah I wouldn’t use the word fact when it’s very much opinion based. Personally my opinion is that I think the Heat offer was superior to the Warriors offer. I know what I’m getting with Herro and Ware and am still getting a few picks. You have your opinion and that’s fine but neither is fact.
Most NBA writers get sourcing from in FO, not the GMs themselves. So with stuff like the Luka trade no one leaks it. You will however get people high enough up to tell you where they are valuing things. Also sometimes it is the GM leaking on purpose, and sometimes thats a smoke screen while other times its real.
If any package was better than GSW the Bucks wouldnt have shut down talks. The GSW package looked close to what is needed to get it down. Also with both Butler and Giannis out the team was looking at gutting its roster to play for next season after building out around Giannis/Curry this summer, so even the 26 pick could be lottery.
The heat package was 2 1sts, that teams generally think will be worse than GSW since they trust MIA to stay good more, Herro on a sudo expiring who has barely played this season, and Ware who lost his starting job is less valuable than he was last year. What about that makes the package better than Kuminga/Podz/Green who have value, and 4 1sts 3 swaps mostly in the post Steph era? Both packages are mostly getting value from picks, and the GSW offer has more picks that project to be better.
Ware right now will get you a conditional 1st just like Podz, and Herro may not even get you anything but heavily protected 1sts since he hasnt played, makes a lot this season/next, and will be expiring. None of these teams have a blue chip young player to move with the picks, and thats probably why the Giannis talks are now paused till the summer.
Sam Vecenie has been talking those picks up for weeks, and he is one of the smartest NBA analysts out there I think, especially on anything draft related. Dude would have been hired up by an NBA team years ago if he didnt marry an Aussie and move out of country. Like 4 of his co hosts have been hired away by NBA teams in the last 5 years.
Herro and Ware plus picks seem like a strong bid. Herro is very good and still improving. Heat still talking to MIL – may still go down.
Herro is a 3rd best player at peak on a real CF team, and he’s expensive, and he probably isnt improving much more, and he has had health problems, and has been available for over a season without getting moved. Not sure he is really all that valuable on a big deal with another extension needed soon.
Went to finals more than once and absolutely balled out as rookie in the playoffs. He’s got the clutch gene and his game has grown. More ball handling and play making for others these days also. What player offered by the Warriors is currently better than Tyler? Picks aren’t guaranteed nothing.
With Giannis, the Bucks have the 9th pick in the draft. Do you really believe that Herro is going to take them to the Finals next season.
What? No. Name a player Warriors offered better than Herro? You can’t and it’s not even close. Only two teams can make the finals. How many buckets or stops do picks get, none. You never know what those picks turn out to be. Things change quick, especially for big markets and especially for big market free agents desirable destinations.
Relying on free agents makes a team top heavy with little depth. Injuries take you out of a title run quickly. 3 of the Warriors titles happened because Curry signed a very team friendly rookie extension. It allowed them to sign a number of big men on minimum deals. Depth is important.
Yeah so a desirable free agent destination like San Fran armed to the teeth with maybe good picks and cap space is a good thing right? I mean you have to use cap somewhere with said rookie scale contracts, no? If Golden State are smart and a bit lucky, I’m sure they can respawn quicker than most.
Just take the hits until then. Gotta lose to win.
You have to draft players first. Losing gets you better draft picks. Ever hear of tanking. It is kinda how it works.
Heat actually went to the finals in 23 when herro wss was out for the entire playoffs! He did ball in the bubble as a 6fh man
Oh snap….actually tell me what warriors player offered is better than Tyler?
To go to the Finals, you need more than one player. Is Tyler going to turn them into a title contender next season?
I answered that didn’t I? What player offered in these hypothetical trades from the Warriors are better than Herro? A) Draymond. B) Pods.
Good lord. Goodnight mate, my real kids attention. Have a good one.
Jimmy and Bam took him to the finals… Last 3 seasons he has played 130 total games. Under contract for 1 season after this where he will probably want a raise. He is the exact kind of player the NBA used to value more and wont get paid that now, but will think he should so it will be a tough negotiation to get him on a contract thats a good value. Look at what all the other score first bad defense guards are going for in trades and FA.
The GSW package is obviously not built on the current players, and NBA teams love picks way more than young players that arent super stars. A pick can be packaged for a star or become one. I dont think they are right 100%, but teams always value picks that havent been made yet way way more.
He has potential to be 2nd best player on a CF team! We agree to disagree. If deal doesn’t go down it’s because MIL sees Herro as you do.
Not with that defense. Played 11 games this season. Has 1 year left on contract. Im sorry but thats just not that valuable.
They won’t have the best offer on the table come off season
In the grand scheme of things Spurs could put together a competitive offer cause they control the Hawks 1st in 2026
They have Utahs and Portlands 2026 2nds
And a former second overall pick in Dylan Harper as a young player for the Bucs
They could very well trade
Harper
Hawks 2026 1st
Utahs and Portlands 2026 2nds which could be top 40 if not top 35
Plus additional draft capital
I like Porzingis, he is a cool dude attended a game against my team while wearing the Celtics Green and he was really nice. But to trade Kuminga is bad! Porzingis is 30+ and always hurt. Hope Kuminga finally becomes the all star and flourish.
Crazy that KP is 30 already. Feels like he just entered the league yesterday.
Available like hes 40…
Oh well. Move onto getting Jokic, Edwards, Luka and SGA.
Giannis will be traded in the Offseason! Just you wait
Not to the Warriors he won’t, book it. The Warriors actually did something, there’s that. LeBron MLE 26/27 incoming.
Tired of waiting on him anyway. He is 31+ athletic big prone to injuries. Warriors will go after other players
I got a feeling GSW is trading him. draft pick or a young player. Thinming Nets…
People are speculating LeBron signing and Porzingis being let go as a salary relief
Who cares. The 4 picks that would have lost were not worth it.
Found another one of Daveys burner account
Atlanta continues to confuse me woth big additions/steps forward followed by big steps back in weird situations, and after several years, I’m not questioning it; they certainly have a lot of depth, so theres that.
A perfect move for GS; its a shame Jimmy is injured
They are gearing for younger and long term play! Watch Kuminga average 25 ppg
Or clearing space for the Billy GOAT 26/27.
Steph doesn’t deserve that in my opinion. LeBron farewell tour coming to San Fran.
How is this good for GSW? Even if he walks they have no cap room. Kuminga had a option for next year and could be salary and rehab his trade value playing. Porzingas cant play…
huh? if he walks….cap room opens up
What room? Butler/Curry/Green/Moody already take you up to 157M. You dont just get room because of the salary walking. They will still be over the cap and below the tax with the current roster if they let KP walk for nothing.
The cap is at $166 million. Before the trade, the Warriors were at $178 million. They sent out $35 million and brought in $30 million. The cap goes up to $178 million next season.
Don’t cruel your boy, you guys should stick together, lols. LeBrons farewell tour is going to San Fran.
Why would LeBron come to SF? He is already on his farewell tour.
Awe hell know this is leBrons farewell tour. The most narcissistic NBA player ever.
He’ll expect standing ovations and thank you tribute videos on the jumbo tron before he’s done. I sincerely hope Boston does neither, lols. I’ll cheer him on when he’s gone. There’s the door, cya.
Everything always comes back to LeBron with you lol. Starting to think you might be his biggest fan on here.
Great move for the hawks!
This would not have been on my bingo card in this universe or any. I don’t even know what to make of this lol.
They’re not done
lmaoooo guess the Bucks weren’t interested in the Kuminga package for Giannis. Davey in shambles right now
so weird how you cant talk NBA hoops, you come here to talk about me
stop it.
I guess the Bucks, Kuminga, and Giannis are not “NBA hoops” to you?
“Davey in shambles right now” – that’s not.
But keep clout farming those likes from my haters lil bro! You win!
Not hating, Davey. Just some teasing because you’ve been taking premature victory laps about all of the moves you think the Warriors will make.
I have not been taking any laps, I never said it was going down, only it “looked like” it was going to. Plus the fact that I got screamed that the entire thing was phony from day 1, when it was VERY LEGITIMATE and ALMOST HAPPENED, is a W for me no matter what.
With all the relentless crap I get on here from my haters, you should know by now you cant humbly “tease” me – you know I am being challenged on everything on here 24-7 – that limits my tolerance for “teasing”. Do not tease me for any reason. Stop mentioning my name, period. Just reply to my comment like you are supposed to. No one comes here to read about me, yet clowns like you keep doing this low rent crud for clout likes by my dedicated group of haters/stalkers, but no one wants this. I do not want to see anyone mentioning my name in here. You can reply to my takes directly under it. Thanks.
@Davey That’s a lot of words just say that you were wrong. Keep moving the goalposts to validate yourself.
You’re not that important to have stalkers and haters. We all just enjoy calling you out when you’re wrong since you’re always so smug in most of your comments inferring that you understand basketball and the league more than 90% of the people here.
So weird how you’ve been posting incessantly how you are smarter than everyone else here and saw the Warriors trade for Giannis as a done deal.
Now you don’t like being called out for your takes???
Stop it.
See how he only now responds AFTER a couple of days. Hes been avoiding the heat since he knows he will be called out on his victory lap.
Poor guy actually thought Giannis would become a Warrior, and acted like it was a sure thing.
Porzingis is quite a downgrade, eh?
Ok it’s official, they traded for an injured player. The tank is on. This year’s pick is staying home. Draymond is not going anywhere. They’re all in on next season.
Trading a guy they won’t play, for a guy who can’t play.
This should be fun.
NBA billionaires lol …..
The Warriors played Kuminga a lot. They just had trouble winning with him in the rotation.
With each year deadline getting more wild…
Kuminga was only on the block once.
New cap restrictions makes it wild lol.
Okay, so when kaminga doesn’t work out with the Hawks or doesn’t kill on the court? I don’t want to hear any excuses. This is his time. He either has it or he doesn’t because the Hawks have a pretty decent team and if he can’t fit in and have a good plus minus do good things on the court then I don’t want to hear any complaining about it with all the lawyer’s fault. Now’s your time young man to show what you got
The Hawks have these guys you may have heard of, Jalen Johnson and Onyeka Okongwu, who play the positions Kuminga plays. They also have Risacher. Kuminga won’t see a ton of minutes but he will at least see the court which is progress.
And another rotation without enough shooting for JK not to be a shooter.
Already making excuses my guy. Beat them out. You wanted 90 mil so why you’re worth 90 mil?
Okungwu recently got his face re-arranged
How’s he getting mins ?????
I wonder if they sort of tell Steph to take it easy the rest of the season.
Lacob might be thrilled if so because he can try his hand at the lottery again.
This makes not sense. Unless they are moving Risacher ……. Teams and big wings today. Like that’s going to get them rings. It’s like monkey see monkey do …….. do they not see who wins in NBA.
Maybe not impossible warriors still get Giannis somehow but Davey stupid ridiculous absurd idea bucks would be happy and lucky to make Jonathan Kuminga their new star player is dead for good!
Not till summer. They had clearly the best offer on the table, and I doubt they would have made this deal unless MIL told them its not happening now.
I don’t know if warriors will have the best offer in the summer but the bucks will still j have them and heat to fall bask on if no new improved bidders emerge! Both warriors and heat will be as desperate thus summer as they see now both have been waiting for him fro like 6 years
Both could make moves now or in the summer that would increase the package too. The downside is if Giannis uses the leverage of being expiring and steers himself to one team.
Great we got the white AD.
Lol! Certainly he is not
No matter what direction this goes, it is a brilliant move by Dunleavy. The Warriors save money on the cap. If it goes well, they got the big man they needed. With his injury history, they might be able to sign him for a lower number.
With the cap going up they might be to access the full Non-tax payer exemption next season.
If it goes badly, the have $34 million coming off books and can access the non-tax payer exemption next season.
Nice move Mr. Dunleavy.
Eh, I would agree on the injury history part if Porzingis’s current condition is not something he’d have to manage for the rest of the year, if not the rest of his career. Very possible he keeps missing more time for it. Obviously if he doesn’t it changes things completely, but I don’t think the Hawks do this if they felt confident in his health moving forward.
As for the money, Kuminga was already going to expire since he had a team option, so it’s really just getting Buddy off the books which is something I guess.
But at the very least this does give the team some upside, and it’s hard to argue with that for a guy who had little value to begin with. Beggars can’t be choosers, after all.
agree. 74
Only $3m of Hield next yr contract is guaranteed
Only way this makes sense. Is KP is 30 mill coming off the books next year. Why is it KP doesn’t get the AD treatment. He misses more games. And is softer than AD …..
Rosacher has to be going out. Or Hawks could be loading up for a Giannis trade ……😱😱😳
I think because AD had a much larger ceiling than KP, but yes they both are made of glass
Yeah you right about that .👍
He is softer and more injured than AD. I guess they had to do something.
If he could stay on court. He is a decent addition with his shooting.
Biggest IF. There’s also Jimmy’s knees, another big if that didn’t hit.
Praise the Lord!
Finally rid of Kuminga….
Just sums up the Warriors that Porzingas comes into the team….made of marshmallows
Bucks didn’t want Kuminga, no surprise there.
No draft picks
Removing $22.5M + $9.1M who never play
Getting a potentially big missing piece but who also rarely plays…
I dont hate this, it’s something, at least. At least Kuminga is free and GSW did not make a stupid choice to keep him so he ends up sitting out the whole season like Kawhi did. At least there is a tangible player on the roster now and he’s a big, exactly what GSW needs.
At least we landed a tall. I heard Kerr wanted to trade for D Garland or Mugsy Boags jnr (5 ‘7). Although I’d rather have jjj if he was available.
Okay so who is going to play C for Atlanta and don’t tell me 6’8 Onyeka Okongwu. Now listed at 6’10 but I don’t belong it. Seven rebounds isn’t good enough. Definitely a PF.
Why take on Kuminga when you have Zaccharie Risacher? Kuminga does fit better with Jalen Johnson better. Dyson Daniels is playing horrible this year, huge step backwards. Yes Atlanta has a nice PF and SF collection but the rest is blah. Bad trade by Atlanta
Kuminga is expected to play PF off the bench in the non-Jalen minutes. Dyson has played well this year outside of his 3-point shooting and FTs and his drop-off in steals but the defense is more of a team effort now. Porzingis is not reliable and was a worse rebounder than Okongwu.
Kuminga coming off the bench? Are you joking? He is already demanding a trade.
He is expected to have a significant role with the Hawks even off the bench.
You are funny. Kuminga doesn’t like coming off the bench. That is he demanded a trade from GS. He might change. But, don’t be shocked if trouble-is-a-brewing.
@jamar
Johnson averages 35.6 min/gm, so that leaves only 12.4 non-Jalen minutes.
My guess is that the Hawks try to flip Kuminga in the next few hours.
Reports say that people in the Hawks organization are fans of Kuminga and his potential. I think he plays some SF and PF for the Hawks off the bench mostly. Hawks move Kispert up to the SG spot off the bench with Kennard traded. Risacher is the starting SF and gets 20-25 minutes a night. This leaves a good amount of minutes for Kuminga.
I guess we’ll see how that works out. Trading the top 3 pt shooter in the league as a far as percentage (49.7%) for Gabe Vincent was odd as well – you’d think with Dyson they could have hidden Kennard on defense.
I really don’t think the Hawks will give minutes to Vincent and Hield on a consistent basis unless they want to try and increase their value. The Hawks probably only did the Kennard deal just to get that SRP but even then I don’t think it was worth it. Kuminga himself according to a report was shocked that he was going to Atlanta so it is an interesting fit there for him. The Hawks do want him there.
Kuminga would be the starting SF, Johnson as the PF with Dyson Daniels starting at SG and Zaccharie Risacher moving to sixth man SG
Daniels shooting numbers are horrible this year. I don’t care about everyone shooting 3s, just get those FT numbers up.
Healthy he will make the Warriors fun to watch…
Dunno how much he moves the needle with the Butler hole though..
He has to replace Butler as the second scorer/star for the rest of this season, then the Wizards or someone offer him a huge deal and he walks, leaving GSW with $30M of payroll to play with, hopefully none of it going to a Kerr extension.
Porzingis and Butler will never play together.
As if the Warriors weren’t old and broken enough…
God speed.
He actually fits their system, allows them to keep the rest of the bench and role players, doesn’t unceremoniously ship Draymond off in the night, and gives them until the end of the year to see if he’s a missing piece for next year when butler is back. They could make the playoffs this year but I wouldn’t call them a contender. Gets rid of the “me first” player who didn’t want to be there and lets everyone else focus on ball. I think they look for their next Barbosa/Speights type (age/career arc) on the waiver/buyout market. Maybe someone like Ball, or some older vets who can play a handful of good minutes when they need the matchups. Definitely feel better about the warriors today than yesterday.
That said I’ve never been a huge KP fan, always seemed overrated. Hope I was wrong.
Hawks can now offer a package for Giannis that includes Kuminga, lol.
I’m happy Kuminga is free, but what a bad return
Porzingis is a good fit but he is ALWAYS injured
Tingus Pingus only going to play at max 10 games for Golden State. The Hawks and Warriors just traded DNP for DNPs lol.
Except Pingis will leave at the end of the year, opening up $30M on the payroll and also paving the way for the Trey Murphy III for Podz and a FRP trade.
The window aint closed no matter how bad people want it to be. GSW is not done yet!
Don’t the Hawks need a center even more now?
They got Jock Landale to be a center off the bench yesterday for nothing from the Jazz.
Good riddance, Kuminga. Glad we can move on
So much for the win now concept.
It’s hard to believe this was the result of all the hyped scenarios. Next season isn’t looking much better for GSW either.
Sad!
Now you agree with me?
Sad!
???
Man GSW must have really hated Kuminga. They traded someone they wouldn’t play for someone that can’t play. lol
Kerr clearly hated him. Too bad that MDJ couldn’t find a player that could actually contribute, eh?
that warriors offer for giannis was pretty good lol idk how much more they want
Giannis didn’t want to play for the warriors. He didn’t wnat to be Curry’s sidekick
Watch Kuminga ball out like crazy and look like a completely different player, once he has had the cancer that is “being near Steve Kerr” removed.
Onyeka Okongwu I hope is 6’10 without shoes
Terrible and ridiculous trade! Especially in light of the number of big men “4/5′” players that were traded over the past few days. MDJ has me questioning his ability as a NBA GM with this and some of his other moves. Porzingis is the best MDJ could acquire for this season or next with all of those draft picks, Kuminga, Podz, etc.??? Hell, I’d rather have Post, TJD, B.Lopez or some other healthy big man instead of an injured KP. Looks to me like they’ve decided to pack it in for the rest of this season and praying for a high draft pick.
Btw, some of you GSW fans here are an embarrassment to some of us other GSW fans when you’re trying to spin this as a positive or good trade move for this team. Especially those of you who were clamoring for Giannis as the great savior. Meaning let’s be honest about this team instead of worshiping at the altar so to speak.
Let me guess … this is all Kerr’s fault??!! smh
“Are we thinking GSW acquires another guard to take that last roster place or nah? I think Conley is the high IQ type they could really use.”
HAHAHAHAHA!!
(You couldn’t make that up)!
Davey: Complains about having a 4 guard lineup
Also Davey: Lets add Conley to the roster.
That would literally be one of the worst possibly signings for height-impaired GSW.
And your comment nailed it!
