Bo McCalebb, who was cut by the Pelicans during the preseason, has signed with the French club Limoges CSP, the team announced (translation by Emiliano Carchia of Sportando). McCalebb, 30, has played overseas since going undrafted in 2008, save for a summer league stint with the Kings in July of that year and his time this fall with the Pelicans. He was the top scorer in the Euroleague in 2011/12, notching 16.9 points per game for Siena of Italy. McCalebb played for FC Bayern Muenchen of Germany last season, when he averaged 4.8 assists per game to go along with 12.4 points in 25.7 minutes per contest.

Pelicans Waive Adrien, Dejean-Jones, McCalebb

The Pelicans have waived power forward Jeff Adrien, as well as guards Bryce Dejean-Jones and Bo McCalebb, the team announced via a press release. Adrien and McCalebb were both in camp on non-guaranteed deals, so New Orleans won’t be on the hook for any salary for them, but Dejean-Jones’ deal includes a partial guarantee of $50K, which the team will be responsible for unless he is claimed off waivers. The Pelicans’ roster count is now at 14 players, one below the regular season maximum.

Adrien appeared in 17 games with the Timberwolves last season, averaging 3.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in 12.6 minutes. The 6’7” forward, who played in China after Minnesota waived him in January, has played for five teams in his five-year career. He appeared in three preseason games this year, averaging 6.3 points and 6.0 rebounds.

Dejean-Jones averaged 12.8 points in 21.6 minutes per game for the Pelicans’ summer league entry, nailing 61.9% of his shots from the floor and nine of his 18 three-point attempts. Those were better numbers than he posted in his lone season with the Cyclones after having previously played at USC and UNLV. The 6’5″ Dejean-Jones put up 10.6 PPG in 23.0 MPG with 32.9% three-point shooting as a senior at Iowa State.

Southwest Notes: Jenkins, Splitter, Pelicans

John Jenkins is the leading scorer for the Mavericks in the preseason so far, and while that’s in large measure because of the absence of some of the team’s key figures, he’s making a strong impression, as Eddie Sefko of the Dallas Morning News details. Jenkins, who left the Hawks in free agency this summer three years after Atlanta picked him 23rd overall, just wishes he could have shown off his game sooner, Sefko relays.

“I put in the work for three years and felt I earned a chance in Atlanta,” Jenkins said. “But I didn’t get it. A lot of guys just need an opportunity. I wasn’t a first-round pick for nothing.”

Jenkins is one of 15 Mavs with a fully guaranteed salary for this season, so his place on the roster seems relatively secure, Sefko posits, even though four Dallas players have partial guarantees. See more from around the Southwest Division:

The Spurs were tense in between the time they agreed to trade Tiago Splitter to the Hawks for virtually nothing aside from the cap space necessary to sign LaMarcus Aldridge and the moment Aldridge agreed to sign with San Antonio, writes Jeff McDonald of the San Antonio Express News. “We didn’t know what the outcome would be,” coach/president Gregg Popovich said. “But we knew if we wanted to change the team and add talent, it’s something we had to do.”
The partial guarantee on Bo McCalebb‘s contract with the Pelicans is worth $50K, but it won’t kick in unless he sticks through October 27th, reports Eric Pincus of Basketball Insiders (Twitter link). McCalebb is on a two-year, minimum-salary deal, Pincus also notes.
Jerome Jordan‘s deal with the Pelicans is a non-guaranteed arrangement for one year at the minimum, and the same is true of the pact between Mirza Begić and the team, which New Orleans abruptly waived earlier today, as Pincus also shows on his Basketball Insiders salary page.

Pelicans Sign Bo McCalebb

The Pelicans have signed Bo McCalebb, the team announced. Andrew Lopez of The Times Picayune reported Wednesday that the sides were having serious discussions. The New Orleans native and former University of New Orleans point guard goes into the roster spot vacated when the team waived Corey Webster just minutes ago, so the Pelicans are again at the 20-man preseason roster limit. The deal includes a partial guarantee, according to John Reid of The Times Picayune (Twitter link).

McCalebb, 30, has played overseas since going undrafted in 2008, save for a summer league stint with the Kings in July of that year. He was the top scorer in the Euroleague in 2011/12, notching 16.9 points per game for Siena of Italy. His assists were up last season with FC Bayern Muenchen of Germany, when he averaged 4.8 per game to go along with 12.4 PPG in 25.7 MPG. That will be key for a Pelicans team without Norris Cole for six weeks, especially with Jrue Holiday still on a minutes limit. Tyreke Evans is the team’s only other logical option at the point.

Injuries to Cole, Omer Asik and Alexis Ajinca have thrown the Pelicans into flux. The team has 13 full guarantees plus partial guarantees to McCalebb and Bryce Dejean-Jones, but if they keep all of them for opening night on October 27th, the Pelicans will have only Kendrick Perkins and Anthony Davis to play center unless Asik and Ajinca are healthy again by that time. Centers Jerome Jordan and Mirza Begić are in camp with the Pelicans, as is power forward Jeff Adrien.

Pelicans Nearing Deal With Bo McCalebb

The Pelicans are close to a deal with unrestricted free agent point guard Bo McCalebb, Andrew Lopez of The Times Picayune reports. The two sides are expected to reach an agreement on Thursday, Lopez adds. The Pelicans currently have the preseason maximum of 20 players under contract, including center Mirza Begić, who was signed by New Orleans earlier today, so the team would need to make a corresponding roster move prior to signing McCalebb.

Several NBA teams were interested in McCalebb back in June, and more recently, two Western Conference teams were said to be involved in discussions with the 30-year-old, according to reports by international journalist David Pick. The Pelicans are in need of depth at point guard in the wake of injuries to Jrue Holiday, who is playing on a minutes restriction until January according to coach Alvin Gentry, and Norris Cole, who is expected to miss up to six weeks with a high ankle sprain, Lopez notes.

McCalebb went undrafted out of the University of New Orleans in 2008, and he’s never spent time with an NBA team aside from a summer league stint with the Kings that same year. He averaged 11.0 points and 3.0 assists in 24.5 minutes per game for Turkey’s Fenerbahce in 2013/14, and 12.4 PPG and 4.8 APG in 25.7 MPG for FC Bayern Muenchen of Germany last season.

Bo McCalebb is in discussions with two teams in the Western Conference, a source tells David Pick of Eurobasket.com (Twitter link). This isn’t the first we’ve heard of interest in the 29-year-old Euroleague star point guard. McCalebb is a free agent and wouldn’t require a buyout to join an NBA team for training camp or beyond.
The Spurs had offered Gustavo Ayon the veteran’s minimum of $981,084 before the big man chose to sign overseas, Pick tells Hoops Rumors.
In a reader chat response, Jabari Davis of Basketball Insiders wonders whether the Wolves will seek a third team to facilitate a sign-and-trade for Eric Bledsoe. Minnesota offered a max deal to the Suns restricted free agent, but Phoenix is reportedly uninterested in shipping him out for anyone on Minnesota’s roster.
Eddie Sefko of The Dallas Morning News takes a look at the Mavericks‘ suddenly crowded backcourt, with incoming veterans in Jameer Nelson and Raymond Felton joining a roster already featuring Monta Ellis and Devin Harris. The team believes the players can coexist without any drama in coach Rick Carlisle‘s system. “A team can never have too many playmakers,” Carlisle said. “They can all play with or without the ball, so in my mind, they aren’t just point guards, they’re basketball players.”

Free Agent Rumors: Lakers, Gasol, Davis, Ariza

Ramona Shelburne of ESPNLosAngeles.com (on Twitter) says the Suns and Hawks will be interested in Pau Gasol. The Lakers, Knicks, Bulls, Mavs, and Rockets are also expected to pursue the Spaniard. Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News (on Twitter) hears that MarShon Brooks is the only definitive Lakers free agent not returning. Everyone else has a chance to return depending on who else is available.
The feeling from NBA sources is that this free agency period could be “uneventful” for the Jazz outside of Gordon Hayward and Marvin Williams, tweets Jody Genessy of the Deseret News.
The Clippers remain interested in re-signing Glen Davis and his reps have talked with the club, according to Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times (on Twitter).

Several NBA Teams Interested In Bo McCalebb

Turkish league point guard Bo McCalebb is drawing interest from several NBA teams, reports Shams Charania of RealGM. Sources tell Charania that McCalebb has never been more inclined to make the jump to the NBA, but agent Eric Fleischer tells David Pick of Eurobasket.com that the 29-year-old is not splitting from Fenerbahce Ulker, his team in Turkey (Twitter links). McCalebb has one season left on his contract, but it’s a lucrative arrangement, Fleischer emphasized, while noting that both sides have escape clauses for this summer.

The 29-year-old won’t play in summer league, Charania says, so it appears teams are indeed keen on formally signing him for training camp in the fall. The Spurs made him an offer in 2012, and many of the other NBA teams with interest have maintained their affection for years, according to Charania.

International Moves: McCalebb, White, Roberts

We haven't been keeping up with international free agent signings this summer like we have with NBA transactions, but occasionally there are a few items of interest to pass along. Here are a few notable recent moves from overseas:

Top international player Bo McCalebb will remain overseas rather than making the leap to the NBA anytime soon. As Emiliano Carchia of Sportando writes, Turkey's Fenerbahce Ulker announced today that they've signed the former University of New Orleans standout. The deal will be for three years, with a third-year option.
2010 Pistons second-round pick Terrico White has signed in Serbia with Radnicki Kragujevac, according to Carchia.
According to various reports, Brian Roberts, who had been playing in Germany, has left his team and will receive a training camp invite from the Hornets. This move has yet to be confirmed by any Hornets beat writer or the team itself.
Jarvis Varnado, who was selected 41st overall by the Heat in the 2010 draft, is hoping to sign with Miami this summer, and isn't considering offers overseas at the moment, says Carchia.

Spurs Interested In Bo McCalebb

The Spurs are seriously interested in signing Lega Basket Serie A point guard Bo McCalebb, according to Sportando. However, his club, Montepaschi Siena, is not presently satisfied with the buyout that the Spurs have offered.

McCalebb, 27, played his college basketball at the University of New Orleans prior to moving overseas and spending time in Turkey, Serbia, and Italy. Last season, the point guard was named the Italian League MVP with 16.9 PPG and 2.6 APG. The 6'0" guard could have a tough time fitting in with San Antonio, however, as they already have a few undersized backcourt players.

So far, the Spurs are the only known NBA team with interest in signing the New Orleans native but a pair of European clubs are reportedly targeting him. Europe Fenerbahce Ulker and Unics Kazan could offer to Siena a buyout in excess of $1.21MM, according to Sportando.
