Reggie Williams

Spurs Waive Reggie Williams

SATURDAY, 2:18pm: The move is official, the Spurs announced via press release. The team also announced it waived recent signee Julian Washburn, so San Antonio is at 15 players.

FRIDAY, 11:07pm: The Spurs intend to waive small forward Reggie Williams, Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports reports (via Twitter). Williams was in camp on a non-guaranteed deal, so San Antonio won’t owe any salary as a result of this move.

Williams, 29, appeared in 20 contests for the Spurs last season, averaging 1.9 points in 5.3 minutes per game. His career averages through 200 career NBA regular season contests are 7.9 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.5 assists to go along with a slash line of .458/.363/.747.

Releasing Williams will pare down the Spurs’ roster to 16 players, including 13 with fully guaranteed deals. San Antonio still has to release one more player prior to Monday’s deadline to reach the regular season maximum of 15 players. The departure of Williams likely means that Rasual Butler will make the team with his non-guaranteed deal, Charania adds.

And-Ones: Bucks Arena, Mavs, Huestis

The $500MM plan to fund a new Bucks arena has enough votes to pass the Wisconsin State Assembly on Tuesday, Republican Majority Leader Jim Steineke said, according to Scott Bauer of the Associated Press. Under the proposal, half of the cost would initially be paid by state and local taxpayers and the other $250MM would come from current and former Bucks owners, Bauer continues. If approved without any changes by the Assembly, the bill would then head to Governor Scott Walker for his consideration, Bauer adds.

In other news around the league:

  • The Mavericks have renounced their rights to Bernard James, Eric Pincus of Basketball Insiders tweets. Pincus notes the Mavs did the same thing last summer, then re-signed him. James’ cap hold was $947,276.
  • The Spurs’ contract with Reggie Williams is not guaranteed, Pincus reports in a separate tweet. Williams would make approximately $1.186MM this upcoming season if he gets paid the full amount.
  • The Thunder are saving their final open roster spot for Josh Huestis, Marc Stein of ESPN.com hears (Twitter link). Oklahoma City selected the 6’7” forward with the 29th overall pick in 2014 but he spent last season with the Oklahoma City Blue of the D-League.
  • The Warriors will hire from within regarding their coaching moves and promote Luke Walton and Jarron Collins, Monte Poole of CSNBayArea.com tweets.

Spurs Sign Reggie Williams For Rest Of Season

FRIDAY, 1:52pm: The deal is official, the team announced via press release.

THURSDAY, 3:47pm: The Spurs have reached an agreement with guard Reggie Williams on a deal for him to remain in San Antonio for the remainder of the season, Shams Charania of RealGM reports (Twitter link). Williams recently completed his second 10-day contract with the Spurs.

The 28-year-old Williams was with the Heat on a training camp deal earlier this season, but he failed to make the opening night roster and then caught on with the Oklahoma City Blue, the Thunder’s D-League affiliate, last month. When initially signed by San Antonio, Williams had taken the place of JaMychal Green, with whom the Spurs failed to reach agreement on a new deal after his initial 10-day arrangement had expired.

In three appearances for the Spurs this season, Williams has averaged 0.7 points in 3.7 minutes of action per game. His career numbers are 8.4 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.6 assists. Williams’ career slash line is .459/.368/.745.

Spurs Ink Reggie Williams To 2nd 10-Day Deal

9:45am: The signing is official, according to the team’s twitter feed.

FRIDAY, 10:53pm: The Spurs intend to sign Reggie Williams to a second 10-day contract, Shams Charania of RealGM reports (Twitter link). Williams’ initial 10-day deal expires tonight. If the swingman is indeed re-signed, then he will continue to occupy San Antonio’s 15th and final roster spot.

The 28-year-old was with the Heat on a training camp deal, but he failed to make the opening night roster and then caught on with the Oklahoma City Blue, the Thunder’s D-League affiliate, last month. When initially inked by San Antonio, Williams had taken the place of JaMychal Green, with whom the Spurs failed to reach agreement on a new deal after his initial 10-day arrangement had expired.

In just two appearances for the Spurs this season, Williams has averaged 1.0 point in 4.0 minutes of action per contest. His career numbers through five seasons in the NBA are 8.4 PPG, 2.6 RPG, and 1.6 APG. Williams’ career slash line is .459/.368/.745.

Spurs Sign Reggie Williams To 10-Day Contract

11:48am: The deal is official, the Spurs announced via press release.

11:35am: The Spurs are closing in on signing Reggie Williams to a 10-day contract, reports Marc Stein of ESPN.com (Twitter link). The five-year veteran swingman would take the place of JaMychal Green, with whom the Spurs failed to reach agreement on a new deal after his 10-day arrangement expired Tuesday night. Williams has been playing for the Thunder’s D-League affiliate.

The 28-year-old was with the Heat on a non-guaranteed training camp deal, but he failed to make the opening night roster and hooked on with the Oklahoma City Blue late last month. A career 37.1% three-point shooter in the NBA, he’s nailed a sizzling 49.2% of his three-point attempts in 13 D-League games so far this year.

The relationship between the Thunder organization and Williams dates back to last season, when he also played for Oklahoma City’s D-League affiliate and was briefly on the NBA roster, but without a current NBA contract, the Herb Rudoy client is free to sign with any NBA team. The Spurs have 14 players, all of whom have contracts that cover at least the rest of the season, leaving a single open roster spot created when they ate the rest of Austin Daye‘s guaranteed contract to sign Green.

Reggie Williams To Join Thunder D-League Team

The Oklahoma City Blue, the D-League affiliate of the Thunder, has reached an agreement to bring aboard Reggie Williams, according an official release from the team. Williams spent training camp with the Heat but was waived shortly before opening night after signing a non-guaranteed, minimum salary pact with Miami in mid-August.

The 28-year-old swingman out of VMI signed two 10-day contracts with the Thunder last season, but only appeared in three contests for Oklahoma City. Since a strong rookie year when he posted 15.2 points in 32.6 minutes per game with the Warriors, Williams hasn’t had much of an opportunity to prove his worth on the hardwood. His minutes per game have steadily dropped each year since his rookie campaign in 2009/10.

It’s fair to infer that the Thunder will be keeping a close eye on Williams, given his history with team and the fact that his deal with its minor league affiliate comes in a season when Oklahoma City has struggled to stay healthy.

Heat Waive Chris Johnson, Reggie Williams

The Heat have waived the non-guaranteed contracts of Chris Johnson and Reggie Williams, the team announced. The moves take Miami’s roster down to 18 players, with three players still to be shed before the deadline to set opening-night rosters two weeks from today.

Johnson, not to be confused with the Sixers swingman of the same name, was bidding to return to the NBA after spending the 2013/14 with Zhejiang Guangsha of China. The 29-year-old center from LSU went scoreless in his only preseason appearance this month for the Heat. Williams spent much of last season in the D-League as well as with the San Miguel Beermen of the Philippines, though he did ink a pair of 10-day contracts with the Thunder. The Heat didn’t put Williams on the floor in any of the three preseason games they played while the 28-year-old swingman was on the roster.

The Heat still have much to decide before the regular season, with only 11 players under guaranteed contracts. Shannon BrownAndre Dawkins and Shawn Jones, all of whom have non-guaranteed deals, are trying to beat out Khem Birch, James Ennis, Justin Hamilton and Tyler Johnson, who have partial guarantees.

Contract Details: Inglis, Heat, Jazz, Hamilton

The pace of signings is slow this time of year, but teams continue to add to their rosters. Eric Pincus reveals some previously unreported details about a handful of these signings within his latest updates to the salary pages at Basketball Insiders, so we’ll pass along the news here:

  • The Bucks are giving 31st overall pick Damien Inglis guaranteed salaries of $820K this season and $855K for 2015/16, both amounts that are more than the minimum, as Pincus notes (Twitter link). It’s a three-year deal in all that features a non-guaranteed season at the minimum salary in the contract’s final year. Milwaukee used part of its cap space to accommodate the signing.
  • Tyler Johnson‘s minimum salary with the Heat this season is guaranteed for $75K, while his minimum salary for next season is without a guarantee, according to Pincus. Reggie Williams is receiving a non-guaranteed minimum salary in his pact with the Heat this year, as Pincus also reveals.
  • The Jazz gave Dee Bost a $65K guarantee this season, while the other two years of his three-year contract for the minimum salary are non-guaranteed, Pincus reports. Pincus also notes that the team gave Jack Cooley a three-year deal for the minimum, though it remains unclear whether any of Cooley’s pay is guaranteed. Utah used cap space rather than the minimum-salary exception on Bost and Cooley, since the minimum-salary exception only allows for two-year deals.
  • The Raptors have the means to shell out more than the minimum salary, but they didn’t give Jordan Hamilton any more than that, as Pincus documents. Hamilton’s deal is reportedly partially guaranteed, but just how much he’s guaranteed remains unknown.
  • Darius Morris is on a one-year deal with the Blazers, Pincus shows.

Heat Sign Reggie Williams

AUGUST 12TH: The deal is official, the team announced via press release.

AUGUST 7TH, 5:53pm: Williams and the Heat have agreed to the deal, reports Shams Charania of RealGM (Twitter link). It’ll be a one-year contract.

5:45pm: Free agent swingman Reggie Williams is nearing a deal with the Heat, reports Adrian NBA: Charlotte Bobcats at Toronto RaptorsWojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports (Twitter links). Williams will provide Miami with some scoring punch off the bench, notes Wojnarowski. The 6’6″, 27 year-old went undrafted out of Virginia Military Institute back in 2008.

In parts of five seasons in the league, Williams has played for the Warriors, Hornets, and most recently, the Thunder. He appeared in three games last season for Oklahoma City, averaging 3.7 PPG, while making 55.6% of his field goal attempts. Williams also appeared in 25 games for Tulsa in the NBA D-League last year, where he averaged 20.1 PPG, 5.7 RPG, and 4.9 APG.

Thunder, Reggie Williams Part Ways

The Thunder have decided against re-signing Reggie Williams for the season after his second 10-day contract with the team expired last night, reports Shams Charania of RealGM. Williams’ pair of deals with Oklahoma City were sandwiched around Mustafa Shakur‘s 10-day contract with the team, but it’s unclear whether the Thunder are considering a reunion with Shakur.

The 27-year-old Williams only made it into three games for a total of 17 minutes in his time with the Thunder, scoring 11 points on 5 for 9 shooting. He’s otherwise spent the season outside the NBA after the Rockets waived him at the end of the preseason, in spite of his partially guaranteed contract. The swingman had been with Oklahoma City’s D-League affiliate at the time of his first 10-day signing, and he returned there before signing his second 10-day deal. That won’t happen this time around, since the season is over for the Tulsa 66ers, who didn’t make the D-League playoffs.

The Bulls and Grizzlies had interest in the Interperformances client earlier this season, so perhaps he’ll wind up with another NBA club before the season is through. The roster is full in Memphis, but Chicago, which brought him in for a workout in November, still has two open roster spots after signing Ronnie Brewer today.
