Nets Sign Scottie Lindsey
The Nets have signed free agent shooting guard Scottie Lindsey to a training camp contract, according to announcements from the team and marketing agency RBA Showcase (Twitter link).
Lindsey, 27, has played primarily in the G League since going undrafted out of Northwestern in 2018, spending time with the Grand Rapids Drive, Erie BayHawks (now the Birmingham Squadron), Windy City Bulls, and Maine Celtics. He has also played in professional leagues in Portugal and Canada.
Last season, Lindsey appeared in a total of 44 regular season and Showcase Cup games for Maine, averaging 11.3 points and 3.7 rebounds in 24.3 minutes per contest with a shooting line of .435/.332/.860.
The Long Island Nets – Brooklyn’s G League affiliate – announced on Monday that they acquired the returning rights for Lindsey and A.J. Reeves from the Maine Celtics in exchange for the returning rights to Jordan Bowden and Noah Kirkwood, so it’s safe to assume the Nets view Lindsey as a player who will eventually suit up for their NBAGL squad.
Assuming Lindsey’s new deal with the team includes Exhibit 10 language, which is very likely, he’ll earn a bonus worth up to $75K if he spends at least 60 days with Long Island after being waived by Brooklyn.
The Nets, who have been busy making roster moves this week with an eye toward the G League season, now have 20 players under contract.
2021/22 NBA G League Draft Results
The NBA G League held its draft for the 2021/22 season on Saturday afternoon.
The 28 G League teams affiliated with NBA teams participated in the event, with the G League Ignite and Mexico City Capitanes sitting it out. The Ignite and Capitanes will be taking part in the NBAGL’s Showcase Cup this fall, but won’t be part of the 36-game regular season that tips off in late December.
The first player selected in today’s draft was former St. John’s point guard Shamorie Ponds, who was picked by the Delaware Blue Coats, the Sixers‘ G League affiliate. Ponds has a little NBA experience, having appeared in four games as a rookie in 2019/20 while on a two-way contract with Toronto.
Among the other notable picks were Nate Darling by the Agua Caliente Clippers of Ontario at No. 5 and LiAngelo Ball by the Greensboro Swarm at No. 14. Last week, the Clippers and Hornets signed and waived Darling and Ball, respectively, in an effort to secure their affiliate rights, but were unable to get those rights for procedural reasons. The two teams had to use the draft to make sure they landed those players.
The Knicks also signed and waived veteran guard Brandon Knight during the preseason and were unable to get his affiliate rights due to a procedural issue. However, Westchester passed on Knight with the No. 4 overall pick today, and the Heat‘s affiliate, the Sioux Falls Skyforce, snatched him up at No. 6. We’ll see if Knight is no longer in the Knicks’ plans or if the Skyforce intend to trade his rights to Westchester.
Lance Stephenson to the Grand Rapids Gold (Nuggets) at No. 13 and Dwyane Wade‘s son Zaire Wade to the Salt Lake City Stars (Jazz) at No. 10 were a couple of the other notable picks that played out as expected.

2019 NBA G League Expansion Draft Results
The NBA G League conducted its 2019 expansion draft on Wednesday, allowing the latest iteration of the Erie BayHawks to acquire the rights to up to 14 players.
Erie has been a G League mainstay in recent years. However, after serving as the affiliate for the Atlanta Hawks last season, the BayHawks were relocated to College Park and renamed the Skyhawks. As such, the Erie BayHawks team that participated in today’s expansion draft is technically a new G League franchise — it’ll be the affiliate for the Pelicans in 2019/20.

As Adam Johnson of 2 Ways & 10 Days recently outlined, each of the G League’s other 27 teams were permitted to protect the rights for up to 12 players. Although the BayHawks could select up to 14 players in the expansion draft, they weren’t permitted to acquire more than two players from any one team.
Here are the 14 players whose rights were acquired by New Orleans’ G League affiliate, with each player’s previous NBAGL team noted in parentheses:
- Taylor Braun (South Bay Lakers)
- Trey Burke (Westchester Knicks)
- Quinton Chievous (Capital City Go-Go)
- Xavier Gibson (Sioux Falls Skyforce)
- Isaac Hamilton (Canton Charge)
- Isaiah Hartenstein (Grande Valley Vipers)
- Derrick Jones Jr. (Northern Arizona Suns)
- Scottie Lindsey (Grand Rapids Drive)
- Erik McCree (Lakeland Magic)
- Codi Miller-McIntyre (College Park Skyhawks)
- Xavier Silas (Iowa Wolves)
- Matt Williams Jr. (Grand Rapids Drive)
- Kyle Wiltjer (Canton Charge)
- Michael Young (Northern Arizona Suns)
Not all of the players whose rights the BayHawks acquired today will actually suit up for the team. In fact, many won’t.
Multiple players selected by Erie – Burke, Hartenstein, and Jones – are currently under contract with NBA teams and won’t be available to the BayHawks as long as they remain on those NBA deals. Other players will spend the 2019/20 season playing overseas.
However, if any of the players selected in today’s expansion draft sign contracts to play in the G League in ’19/20, the BayHawks will have their rights. Erie will hold each of these 14 players’ NBAGL rights for the next two seasons.
Pistons Signed, Waived Scottie Lindsey
Former Northwestern standout Scottie Lindsey enjoyed a very brief stay on an NBA roster this weekend, as the Pistons signed him to a contract on Saturday before waiving him on Monday, per the RealGM.com and NBA.com transaction logs.
Given the abridged nature of Lindsey’s stint with the Pistons, the club was likely looking to secure his G League rights for the Grand Rapids Drive. Assuming his deal included an Exhibit 10 clause, the 6’5″ guard could be in line for a bonus worth up to $50K if he spends at least two months with Detroit’s NBAGL affiliate.
Lindsey, 22, averaged 15.2 PPG and 3.8 RPG in his senior year at Northwestern in 2017/18, recording a .399/.362/.829 shooting line in 32 games.
Lindsey was signed to the 20th and final spot on Detroit’s training camp roster, which the team subsequently used to add Chris McCullough after cutting Lindsey.
