Bobcats Sign Jamario Moon
The Bobcats are signing Jamario Moon to a contract that covers the rest of the season, confirms Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer. SI.com's Sam Amick first reported the move via unnamed sources earlier today.
Rod Higgins, Bobcats vice president of basketball operations, said the team was looking for an athletic wing player to replace Corey Maggette, who's out for the season with a strained Achilles' tendon. Moon, listed at 6'8" and 215 pounds, averaged 17.7 PPG and 7.8 RPG in 12 regular season games with the D-League's Los Angeles D-Fenders this season. The 31-year-old, undrafted out of Meridian Community College, has played parts of five D-League seasons and four NBA seasons, averaging 6.4 PPG and 4.3 RPG in the NBA. He split last year between the Cavs and Clippers, and started 75 games for the Raptors in 2007/08.
The Bobcats had 14 players on their roster, so they won't have to make a corresponding move.
Minor Moves: Moon, Harangody
Today's minor moves..
- The Bobcats have called Jamario Moon up from the Los Angeles D-Fenders, sources tell Sam Amick of Sports Illustrated. Moon joined the D-Fenders a little over a month ago.
- The Cavaliers recalled forward Luke Harangody from the Canton Charge of the D-League, tweet Tom Reed and Mary Schmitt Boyer of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. The Notre Dame product saw time in twelve games for the Cavs this season.
Rockets Sign Diamon Simpson
The Rockets have signed Diamon Simpson, tweets Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle. The deal, which was first reported by Jarrod Waerea of NBADownUnder.com, will be for the rest of the season, with a non-guaranteed year for next season, according to Feigen (via Twitter).
Simpson, 24, was part of the Warriors' training camp in 2009, but was waived prior to the season. The St. Mary's product has yet to make his NBA debut, spending the last few seasons playing in the D-League, the Philippines, Turkey, and, most recently, Australia.
The 6'7" forward will take the roster spot vacated by Malcolm Thomas when Thomas' 10-day contract expired.
Minor Moves: Ryan Reid
We'll track today's notable international and D-League-related transactions right here:
- Ryan Reid has signed with Puerto Rican team Mets de Guaynabo, according to Emiliano Carchia of Sportando. Reid spent most of the season with the Thunder, shuttled back and forth between Oklahoma City and the team's D-League affiliate, the Tulsa 66ers. The Thunder had to waive the 25-year-old in March to clear a roster spot for Derek Fisher.
Jazz Sign Blake Ahearn To 10-Day Contract
The Jazz have officially signed Blake Ahearn to a 10-day contract. The team announced yesterday that Ahearn was expected to sign a 10-day deal, and the Jazz confirmed via their Twitter account that Ahearn practiced with the team today.
Ahearn, 27, was the D-League's leading scorer this season, averaging 23.8 PPG and 5.1 APG while shooting .469/.409/.962 in 37 games for the Reno Bighorns. The 6'3" guard appeared in 15 career NBA games for the Heat and Spurs, though his most recent NBA action came in November 2008. As our 10-day contract tracker shows, it was a pair of 10-day deals with Miami in 2008 that earned Ahearn his first NBA playing time.
The Jazz had an open roster spot, so they didn't need to make a corresponding move to clear room for Ahearn.
Hornets Sign Jerome Dyson To 10-Day Contract
The Hornets have officially signed Jerome Dyson to a 10-day contract, the team announced today. Dyson broke the news himself yesterday, tweeting, "Got that call I've been waiting for headed back to the NO get to sign the contract in the morning."
Dyson, 24, has yet to appear in a regular season NBA game, though he played for the Hornets in the preseason. The 6'3" guard was waived on December 24th, and has spent the season playing for the D-League's Tulsa 66ers. In 44 games, he averaged 17.8 points in 34 minutes per contest.
As our 10-day tracker shows, Dyson is the fifth player to sign a 10-day contract with the Hornets this season.
Minor Moves: Chris Wright, Jerome Jordan
We'll track today's notable international and D-League-related transactions right here:
- Chris Wright has been assigned by the Warriors to the D-League's Dakota Wizards, according to a team press release. Golden State recalled Wright for a second time last Wednesday, but he'll head back to Dakota to join the team for its playoff series against the Bakersfield Jam.
- The Knicks have reassigned Jerome Jordan to the Erie BayHawks, their D-League affiliate, according to the team's official Twitter account. New York has previously assigned Jordan to Erie in January and March, so this is the last time this season he can be sent down this year. The BayHawks' season could be nearing its end anyway — they'll face the Austin Toros in the playoffs starting this weekend.
Cavs Re-Sign Lester Hudson
The Cavs have signed guard Lester Hudson to another 10-day contract, tweets Jason Lloyd of the Akron Beacon Journal. Hudson's first 10-day deal expired last night.
Hudson has averaged 12.7 PPG, 3.8 APG and 3.5 RPG in 23.8 minutes a night during his six-game stint with the Cavs. He scored 23 points Friday against the Raptors and 26 on Sunday versus the Nets. Earlier I speculated that the Hornets, in need of a point guard, might try to grab him, but this move blocks them from doing so, at least for the time being.
Raptors Re-Sign Alan Anderson, Ben Uzoh
The Raptors have re-signed guards Ben Uzoh and Alan Anderson to 10-day contracts, according to releases from the team. It's the second 10-day contract from the team for both players. Toronto also signed Justin Dentmon to a 10-day deal this morning, so the team has three players on the shortest of contracts as it looks to bolster its backcourt.
Anderson has seen significant playing time in his six games for the Raptors, getting the start against the Sixers the other night and averaging 5.8 PPG and 2.0 RPG in 16 minutes a game. Uzoh has somewhat better numbers, though, putting up 3.2 PPG and 2.6 APG in 12 minutes a game.
Raptors Sign Justin Dentmon
9:57am: The team has confirmed, via press release, that it's a 10-day contract.
9:37am: Scott Schroeder of Ridiculous Upside tweets that the team has finalized the signing. No word yet on whether the deal is for 10 days or the rest of the season.
WEDNESDAY, 11:04am: The Raptors are hoping to sign Justin Dentmon by week's end, according to Marc Stein of ESPN.com (via Twitter). Scott Schroeder of Ridiculous Upside reports that the Raptors previously tried to call up Dentmon, but the University of Washington alum had already agreed to a 10-day deal with the Spurs (Twitter link).
As our 10-day tracker shows, Dentmon signed with the Spurs on March 24th, though the team terminated his contract early, according to RealGM's transactions log. Either way, Dentmon's 10-day deal would have expired by now, and it doesn't appear San Antonio is interested in bringing him back. The 26-year-old, who appeared in two games for the Spurs, has since rejoined the D-League's Austin Toros.
The Raptors currently have two guards on 10-day contracts, but both Alan Anderson's and Ben Uzoh's deal are set to expire this week, so perhaps Toronto will sign Dentmon to replace one of the two.
