Sixers Sign Demetrius Jackson To Two-Way Deal

4:58pm: The signing is official, per team release.

4:42pm: The Sixers will sign guard Demetrius Jackson to a two-way contract and release forward James Michael McAdoo, Shams Charania of The Vertical tweets.

Jackson signed a two-way deal with the Rockets during the offseason after the Celtics waived him. Houston terminated Jackson’s contract and then signed him to a 10-day deal earlier this month. However, he did not figure in the Rockets’ plans and the 10-day deal bought him and his representatives time to find a better situation.

The 6’1” point guard made 12 cameo appearances with the Rockets, playing an average of 5.3 MPG. The Notre Dame product played five games for Boston last season after being selected in the second round as the No. 45 overall pick in 2016.

He’ll provide depth behind T.J. McConnell, Jerryd Bayless and top pick Markelle Fultz, who has been plagued by shoulder woes in his rookie campaign.

McAdoo signed a two-way contract with Philadelphia in late August but appeared in just three games.

Nets Sign James Webb III To Two-Way Contract

4:48pm: The signing of Webb is official, per team release. The club also confirmed the release of Wiley.

3:21pm: The Nets are expected to cut Wiley to make room for Webb, according to a NetsDaily report.

11:48am: The Nets intend to sign G League forward James Webb III to a two-way contract, according to Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports (Twitter link). As we noted this morning, Monday is the last day that teams can sign players to two-way deals this season, so Brooklyn will have to finalize the signing today.

In order to clear room on their roster for Webb, the Nets will also have to make a roster move involving one of their current two-way players, Jacob Wiley and Milton Doyle. Brooklyn currently has a full 15-man NBA roster, so converting one of those two-way players to a standard contract isn’t an option unless someone else is waived.

Webb, who played his college ball at Boise State, went undrafted in 2016 and joined the Sixers for training camp. After being cut by Philadelphia prior to the 2016/17 season, he caught on with the team’s G League affiliate, the Delaware 87ers. Webb has since appeared in 60 games for the 87ers, averaging 12.6 PPG and 8.4 RPG with a .439/.361/.747 shooting line.

Once his two-way contract with the Nets becomes official, Webb will make the move over to the Long Island Nets. He’ll also be eligible to spend up to 22 days with Brooklyn the rest of the way.

Pistons Sign Reggie Hearn To Two-Way Deal, Waive Luis Montero

JANUARY 15, 2:43pm: The Pistons have made their deal with Hearn official, confirming in a press release that they’ve waived Montero. The team also announced Felder’s signing.

JANUARY 14, 1:26pm: The Pistons will waive Montero and sign both Hearn and Felder to two-way contracts, tweets Rod Beard of The Detroit News. Their pro-rated deals will give them each 22 days in the NBA.

12:50pm: The Pistons are close to finalizing a two-way contract with G League guard Reggie Hearn, tweets Marc Stein of The New York Times.

Hearn, who was in training camp with the Kings, has been playing for the Reno Bighorns and is averaging 14.7 points in 14 games.

The Pistons currently have Luis Montero filling one two-way spot and were reported yesterday to to be close to a deal with Kay Felder for the other one, so either the Felder deal fell through or some other roster move is in the works. Detroit converted Dwight Buycks‘ two-way deal to a regular contract on Friday.

JANUARY 15: The Pistons have officially signed Felder to a two-way deal, the team announced today in a press release.

JANUARY 13: The Pistons will sign former Cavaliers and Bulls point guard Kay Felder to its open two-way contract, tweets Shams Charania of The Vertical. Felder’s signing comes just days after Detroit converted Dwight Buycks two-way contract to a standard NBA deal.

It is a homecoming for Felder, 22, who was born and raised in Detroit and attended college at nearby Oakland University, which happens to be located in the Pistons’ former home, Auburn Hills.

Felder was drafted 54th overall in the 2016 NBA draft, and most recently played for the Bulls before being waived last month. Felder averaged 3.9 points and 1.4 per game over 14 games for Chicago this season.

Andrew White Signs Two-Way Deal With Hawks

JANUARY 15: White’s two-way deal with the Hawks is now official, according to a press release issued today by the team.

JANUARY 13: The Hawks will sign forward Andrew White to a two-way contract, tweets Shams Charania of The Vertical.

White has been playing with the Celtics’ G League affiliate in Maine, where he is averaging 16.0 points and 5.3 rebounds in 22 games. He signed a partially guaranteed deal with Boston in August, but was waived in the preseason.

The Hawks have a two-way slot open, so no other move will have to be made before adding White. Josh Magette holds Atlanta’s other two-way deal.

Lakers Sign Gary Payton II To Two-Way Deal

JANUARY 15: The Lakers have officially signed Payton to a two-way contract, the team announced today in a press release.

JANUARY 14: The Lakers are planning to sign Gary Payton II to a two-way contract, Shams Charania of The Vertical tweets. Payton began the 2017/18 campaign with the Bucks, but despite starting six games for the team, averaged just 2.5 points and 1.4 rebounds per game.

Payton will slide into the vacant two-way slot that the Lakers opened up on Friday with the release of Vander Blue.

Per Bill Oram of the Orange County Register, Payton is expected to join the team in Memphis ahead of the Lakers-Grizzlies tilt on Monday.

Payton has yet to make much of a mark at the NBA level but drew attention at Oregon State thanks to his Hall of Fame father. Gary Payton Sr., of course, suited up for the Lakers in the twilight of his career.

Payton was waived by Milwaukee on December 18 when the Bucks opted to bring Sean Kilpatrick aboard on a two-way contract.

R.J. Hunter Signs Two-Way Contract With Rockets

JANUARY 15, 8:16am: Hunter’s two-way contract with the Rockets became official on Sunday, per RealGM’s transactions log.

JANUARY 13, 4:08pm: The Rockets will sign G League guard R.J. Hunter to a two-way contract on Sunday, tweets Jonathan Feigen of The Houston Chronicle.

Hunter has been playing for the organization’s G League affiliate in Rio Grande Valley, where he is averaging 19.0 points in 23 games. He has struggled to find a spot in the NBA after being taken by the Celtics with the 28th pick in 2015. He played 36 games with Boston and another three with Chicago, but most of his experience has been in the G League.

The Rockets have a two-way slot open after terminating their deal with Demetrius Jackson last week. When Hunter signs tomorrow, he’ll have 22 days of NBA eligibility.

Jazz Sign Georges Niang To Two-Way Deal

JANUARY 14, 1:30pm: The two-way deal has been made official, per the Jazz’s public relations department (via Twitter).

JANUARY 10, 9:58pm : The Jazz plan to sign Georges Niang to a two-way contract, tweets Adam Johnson of Two Ways and 10 Days.

Niang is currently playing for the Warriors’ G League affiliate in Santa Cruz, where he is averaging 18.4 points and 6.7 rebounds in 25 games. Niang was waived by Golden State in the preseason after signing with the organization in August. He appeared in 23 games with the Pacers as a rookie last season.

Utah currently has a full roster with Naz Mitrou-Long and Erik McCree holding the team’s two-way contracts, so a move will have to be made before Niang can be added.

Knicks Sign Trey Burke

JANUARY 14, 12:04pm: The signing is official, the Knicks announced on Twitter.

JANUARY 13, 10:38am: The Knicks are expected to sign point guard Trey Burke from the team’s G League affiliate Westchester Knicks, according to ESPN’s Ian Begley. The signing will not be official until tomorrow, tweets Marc Berman of the New York Post. New York will request waivers on veteran guard Ramon Sessions to make room for the former ninth overall pick from the 2013 NBA Draft.

Burke, 25, has played exceptionally well for Westchester, averaging 26.6 PPG and 5.3 APG while shooting 49% from the field in 37 minutes per game. The former lottery pick, who spent his first three seasons with the Jazz and last season with the Wizards, has not lived up to the hype thus far. In those four seasons, Burke has averaged 10.6 PPG, 3.6 APG, and 2.1 RPG.

It’s unclear how Burke fits in with the current Knicks roster as Jarrett Jack and Frank Ntilikina have soaked up most of the minutes at point guard. The signing reunites Burke with his former Michigan teammate Tim Hardaway Jr., Begley notes.

Pelicans Sign Mike James To Two-Way Deal

JANUARY 14, 9:17am: The signing is official, according to the Real GM transactions log.

JANUARY 13, 1:34pm: The Pelicans will fill their remaining two-way slot by signing former Suns‘ point guard Mike James, tweets Shams Charania of The Vertical. James will move into the opening created by the Pelicans earlier this week when they waived two-way player Jalen Jones.

James, the 27-year-old rookie who went undrafted in 2012, and was the first player in league history to have his two-way contract converted into a regular season contract, was waived by the Suns last month to make room on the roster for Isaiah Canaan.

Before being waived, James put up respectable numbers for the Suns, averaging 10.4 points and 3.8 assists in 20.9 minutes per game. He will likely get a shot at showing fans in New Orleans that his stint in Phoenix was not a fluke, as the Pelicans currently have four players sidelined with long-term injuries.
