Pelicans Sign Toney Douglas To 10-Day Deal

The Pelicans have signed Toney Douglas to a 10-day contract, the team announced. The five-year NBA veteran became a free agent this week with the conclusion of his deal with Jiangsu Nangang of China. New Orleans had two open roster spots after the expiration of Nate Wolters‘ second 10-day deal this week, so it didn’t need to make any corresponding move.

Douglas put up 24.7 points in 31.6 minutes per game with 39% three-point shooting during his 34 appearances in China, though he only started nine games for the club. He worked out this summer for the Lakers in what agent David Falk client deemed as an early tryout for a deal once he returned stateside, since he’d already committed to play in China. He’d also drawn interest from the Bulls after finishing last season on the Heat’s bench.

New Orleans is without Jrue Holiday for a few weeks as he deals with a stress reaction in his leg, and the trades of Austin Rivers and Russ Smith had left Tyreke Evans, who’s seen more action at the wing over the course of his NBA career, as the team’s only point guard. Douglas will fill that need, though he’s never averaged more than the 3.0 assists per game he logged during the 2010/11 season with the Knicks.

Hornets Cut Jannero Pargo, Sign Elliot Williams

WEDNESDAY, 10:32am: The moves are official, the team announced.

TUESDAY, 5:37pm: The Hornets intend to waive Jannero Pargo in order for them them to ink Elliot Williams to a 10-day contract, Marc Stein of ESPN.com reports (Twitter link). Charlotte currently has the league maximum of 15 players on its roster, which is why the team would need to release Pargo prior to inking Williams.

Williams, 25, has been playing for the Santa Cruz Warriors, Golden State’s D-League affiliate. In 19 D-League appearances this season, Williams has averaged 20.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 7.6 assists in 36.3 minutes per contest. He was briefly a member of the Jazz this season, having signed a pair of 10-day contracts with Utah in early January. In five NBA appearances this season, Williams has logged 3.6 points in 8.4 minutes per contest.

Charlotte will be on the hook for the remainder of Pargo’s 2014/15 salary of $915,243 if it releases him. Pargo has missed time this season due to an ailing back, and he has been limited to just nine appearances for the Hornets, averaging 4.6 points in 8.1 minutes per night. The 35-year-old’s career numbers over 10 seasons in the NBA are 6.4 PPG, 1.4 RPG, and 2.0 APG. His career slash line is .391/.356/.864.

Clippers Re-Sign Dahntay Jones For Season

5:02pm: The signing is official, the team has announced.

TUESDAY, 3:20pm: The Clippers have officially signed Jones for the remainder of the season, according to Dan Woike of the Orange County Register (on Twitter).

MONDAY, 5:29pm: The Clippers will re-sign Dahntay Jones for the rest of the season after his second 10-day contract expires tonight, coach/executive Doc Rivers told reporters, including Dan Woike of The Orange County Register (Twitter link).   Jones first joined the Clippers back on January 14th.

The Jazz brought the 10-year veteran Jones to training camp this past fall, but they released him before the start of the regular season.  The 34-year-old went without a deal last season, save for a preseason stint with the Bulls, and, prior to this stint in L.A., he last appeared in an NBA regular season game with the Hawks in 2012/13.  He averaged 14.4 points in 29.3 minutes per game with 38.5% three-point shooting for the D-League Mad Ants this year.

Over the last few weeks, Jones has logged 29 minutes across eight games for the Clippers, scoring four points and pulling down one rebound.

Hornets To Sign Elliot Williams To 10-Day

The Hornets plan to sign Elliot Williams to a 10-day deal, according to Marc Stein of ESPN.com (on Twitter).  Williams recently went through a pair of 10-day deals with the Jazz before returning to the D-League.

Williams appeared in five games for Utah during his time there, averaging 3.6 points and 0.6 rebounds in 8.4 minutes per contest.  The 25-year-old is a former first round draft pick of the Trail Blazers and was selected No. 2 overall in this year’s D-League draft.

Over parts of three seasons with the Blazers, 76ers, and Jazz, Williams has averaged 5.3 PPG and 1.6 RPG in 14 minutes per contest.  Prior to joining the Jazz this season, Williams had appeared in 16 contests for Santa Cruz, Golden State’s D-League affiliate.  The 25-year-old had notched 21.3 PPG, 4.7 RPG, and 7.7 APG in 37.2 minutes per game.

Utah opted against giving Williams a deal covering the rest of the season and instead used his roster spot to sign swingman Chris Johnson to a 10-day deal.

Celtics Sign Andre Dawkins To Second 10-Day

MONDAY, 3:35pm: The deal is official, the team announced via press release.

SUNDAY, 3:15pm: Andre Dawkins told A. Sherrod Blakely of CSNNE.com (on Twitter) that he will be signing another 10-day deal with the Celtics.  Dawkins’ first 10-day deal expires today.

Dawkins spent the bulk of this 10-day stint in the D-League, though he was recalled briefly to join Boston for a practice a few days ago and he was also brought back to the team earlier today. The 23-year-old was waived by the Heat in January as they opted not to guarantee his rookie minimum salary for the season.

Miami was reportedly interested in bringing back the John Spencer client on a 10-day contract at some point this season, but the Celtics ostensibly beat them to the punch.  The former Duke Blue Devil went undrafted this summer, but he joined the Rockets and Heat for summer league and made Miami’s opening-night roster out of training camp.  In four games with Miami, Dawkins played a grand total of 22 minutes.

Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe (on Twitter) first reported that a second 10-day deal for Dawkins was expected.

Grizzlies Sign JaMychal Green To 10-Day Pact

MONDAY, 3:31pm: The signing of Green is official, Memphis announced via press release.

SUNDAY, 2:03pm: Thomas won’t be offered another 10-day deal, according to Wojnarowski.

1:35pm: The Grizzlies will sign forward JaMychal Green to a 10-day contract, league sources tell Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports (on Twitter).  Green, 24, recently completed a 10-day contract with the Spurs.

Green averaged 2.0 points and 1.5 rebounds in five appearances with the Spurs.  While he didn’t get tons of playing time to show what he could do, he garnered interest as a possible 10-day signee from multiple teams, including the Grizzlies.

The power forward spent the preseason with the Spurs and was with San Antonio’s D-League affiliate in between stints with the big club.  The Knicks, Bulls, Bucks, and Blazers also reportedly had him on their radar for a 10-day deal.

As our roster counts show, Memphis has a spot open on its 15-man roster thanks to the expiration of Tyrus Thomas10-day deal.

Warriors Re-Sign James McAdoo

1:22pm: The signing is official, the team announced via press release.

11:27am: Agent Jim Tanner confirms the deal to Diamond Leung of the Bay Area News Group.

11:13am: The Warriors and James McAdoo have agreed upon a second 10-day deal, a league source tells Shams Charania of RealGM. The rookie power forward had gone back to Golden State’s D-League team after the expiration of his first 10-day contract last week, but Warriors coach Steve Kerr spoke at that time of McAdoo as someone he hoped would be a part of the club’s future. The Warriors have an open roster spot, so there won’t be a need for a corresponding move.

The 22-year-old was the sixth-ranked player in the Recruiting Services Consensus Index coming out of high school in 2011, but his stock gradually slipped during his three years at North Carolina, and he went undrafted this past summer. The Warriors had him on their summer league team and gave him a $35K partial guarantee on his contract for camp. McAdoo failed to make the opening-night roster, but the Warriors retained his D-League rights, and he’s averaged 19.3 points and 9.6 rebounds in 32.9 minutes per game over 24 appearances for Golden State’s D-League affiliate.

This second arrangement will be the final 10-day contract the Warriors are allowed to give McAdoo this year, so at the end of it, Golden State will either have to sign him for the season or let him sit in NBA free agency and risk another team snapping him up. McAdoo spoke with Zach Links of Hoops Rumors shortly before the draft.

Pistons Sign John Lucas III To 10-Day Contract

MONDAY, 9:43am: The deal is official, the team announced via press release.

SUNDAY, 2:12pm: The Pistons plan to sign John Lucas III to a 10-day deal, according to Marc Stein of ESPN.com (on Twitter).  Lucas is being brought aboard to help fill the void created by the loss of star guard Brandon Jennings.

Lucas, a seven-year NBA vet, called off a scheduled workout with the Lakers back in November to sign with a Chinese team, the Fujian Sturgeons.  That somewhat surprising decision capped what proved to be a very weird offseason for the 32-year-old guard.  The Jazz had him under contract for a non-guaranteed $1.6MM at the beginning of the offseason, but they traded him to the Cavs in July.  Cleveland flipped him two months later to the Celtics, who promptly waived him.  The Wizards picked him up in late October, presumably with an eye on keeping him for the start of the regular season, but Washington put him back on waivers before opening night.

Now, Lucas is on his way back to the Association, this time to help give Detroit backcourt depth in the wake of Jennings’ torn Achilles.  Jennings was averaging 19.8 points and 7.0 assists since the departure of Josh Smith and helped lead the club to a 12-4 record in that time period.

The Pistons had their eye on Heat guard Norris Cole as a possible backcourt addition, but it’s not clear if they’ll continue to pursue him via trade.

Knicks Ink Lance Thomas For Rest Of Season

SATURDAY, 9:23am: The Knicks have signed Thomas for the remainder of the season, the team has announced.

1:10pm: The deal only covers the rest of this season, a league source tells Adam Zagoria of SNY.tv (Twitter links).

THURSDAY, 9:49am: The Knicks will re-sign combo forward Lance Thomas to a contract that covers the rest of the season when his second 10-day contract with the team expires at the end of Friday, reports Ian Begley of ESPNNewYork.com. Such rest-of-season deals often carry an additional year with non-guaranteed or partially guaranteed salary, as is the case with New York’s latest arrangement with Langston Galloway, but Begley doesn’t indicate whether Thomas’ new contract will extend any longer than this season. The Knicks are limited to giving out the minimum salary.

Knicks coach Derek Fisher publicly lobbied Wednesday for new deals for Thomas as well as fellow 10-day signee Lou Amundson, who’s started the last five games for the Knicks and whose second 10-day contract with New York expires tonight. Thomas, a John Spencer client, has also played a significant role in six appearances with New York, averaging 11.0 points and 4.8 rebounds in 25.8 minutes per game. He’s at a career high 21.6 MPG for the season, having made 13 starts for the injury-plagued Thunder at the beginning of the year before Oklahoma City sent him to New York in a three-team trade earlier this month.

New York waived Thomas shortly after the trade to avoid guaranteeing his minimum-salary contract for the season, but it seems that the Knicks have since warmed to the idea. A new deal for Thomas would give the Knicks 14 players signed through season’s end.
