Southeast Notes: Bobcats, Davis, Draft, Magic

The Heat are the Southeast division's horse in the championship race but plenty is going on outside of South Beach.  The Bobcats didn't land the top selection in the 2012 draft and went from what could have been a slam dunk decision at No. 1 to a very difficult one at No. 2.  The latest from the division…

  • Lifelong Michael Jordan fan Anthony Davis told radio host Dan Patrick that his friends and family are disappointed that he won't be a member of the Bobcats, writes Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer.  In tongue-and-cheek fashion, Bonnell offers up the suggestion that Davis orchestrate a holdout with the Hornets before reminding his audience that the big man is too classy and disciplined to do such a thing.
  • The Bobcats' selection with the second-overall pick could have a serious impact on the Pistons, who have the ninth selection, writes Keith Langlois of Pistons.com.  Langlois also runs down his guesses for the top eight in order to suss out who Detroit might grab.  If Charlotte GM Rich Cho makes the call, he sees the Bobcats taking Michael Kidd-Gilchrist.
  • The Magic worked out six draft prospects yesterday in Orlando, a team official told Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel.  In attendance were Moe Harkless, William Buford, Cameron Moore, Andrew Nicholson, Darrion Pellum, and Jeff Taylor.
