New GM Elton Brand believes the Sixers may have to add one more piece to reach elite status.
“We’re close,” Brand said during a recent appearance on ESPN’s The Jump. “If you ask [Joel Embiid] we have enough and if you ask [Ben Simmons] we have enough, because that’s the chip they have on their shoulder … they don’t want to hear that, but I think we still need a piece.”
How the Sixers will add another playmaker becomes the next question. Philadelphia should be able to carve out enough cap space to add a max free agent next summer. Still, Brand doesn’t sound like he’s willing to wait around until then.
“Everyone talks about free agency…but we may have to pull the trigger on something else before free agency if we feel we can’t get one of those stars that I can’t name,” Brand said.
The Sixers have shown interest in Jimmy Butler, though Philadelphia is reportedly not on the four-time All-Star’s short list of destinations he’d wish to go. Still, Butler doesn’t have a no-trade clause, so any team, including the 76ers, could trade for him.
Its probably something a team should not say publicly, but he’s definitely right.
Butler would be lethal with embiid and Simmons…
But he wont wanna be “3rd fiddle” and would be annoyed with the idea. Even though your right and that would be absolutely lethal
I’d think he’d be second to Embiid, but ahead of Simmons. Simmons isn’t a 20 PPG scorer like Embiid and Butler, and I think the two would pair nicely at the guard spots with JJ mixed in for small ball lineups.
There’s going to be at least another 2-3 star players who are going to be disgruntled or request trades at some point during the year. Give it to the deadline, and Philly has the assets to get a big deal done.
A guy like Kemba Walker would help ease some of the load on Simmons to be the primary playmaker and address the teams need for a shooter.
Yet he doesn’t want to to be traded.. sounds like he’d sign a more team friendly then greedy player contract to stay put. Be stupid to trade him for a guy who wants a top contract and might not even resign smh at your comment

Some of yall folks expect everyone to be a MJ or LBJ. He’s Ben Simmons. 1 year in the league. Had a bad game to the team that eliminated them from the playoffs…just like most of the greats in their elimination series. He has a good 15-17 years to make it up to his fans.
