Clippers Pursuing Serge Ibaka, Marc Gasol

The Clippers are in the running to sign Serge Ibaka or Marc Gasol away from the Raptors, tweets Marc Stein of The New York Times. Sources tell Stein that adding Gasol is considered more realistic because of the intense competition to land Ibaka, led by Toronto and the Nets.

The Lakers would also like to add another big man, Stein notes, but they’re financially limited after signing Montrezl Harrell and re-signing Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. It appears the Lakers would be limited to a veteran’s minimum offer.

The Clippers need reinforcements in the front court after losing Harrell and JaMychal Green on the first night of free agency. L.A. kept midseason pick-up Marcus Morris, giving him $64MM over four seasons.

The Raptors should have an edge in the competition for Ibaka, tweets Josh Lewenberg of TSN Sports. The Nets are limited to the taxpayer mid-level exception of $5.7MM, and although the Clippers have the full MLE of $9.3MM, Toronto is expected to make a larger offer, although only for one year to preserve cap room for next summer’s free agent market.

Ibaka, 31, averaged 15.4 points and 8.2 rebounds in 55 games last season. Gasol, 35, averaged 7.5 PPG and 6.3 RPG in 44 games.

The Clippers sound desperate. Not that Ibaka or Gasol wouldn’t be solid additions, but they seem to be scrambling. Their failure in the playoffs combined with rumors of George not getting along with teammates and Rivers bolting indicates all is not well with that organization.

A “solid addition”? There are reportedly 10 or more teams trying to talk to Ibaka right now. “Desperate” teams go after players that nobody else wants.

Raptors literally won the whole thing with those guys but ok lol

lmao why would they be scrambling? they still have Kawhi/PG13/Lou/Morris/Zubac and still making moves..Lakers never beat them in a series and they got rid of Harrell who sucks

Yeah but havent’t you notice that Lakers have won ALL of their series last Playoffs while Clippers blow 3-1 lead…

Ironically Harrell might prove them wrong to let him go.

Everyone thinks the Lakers will be even better next season because they got Harrell and Schroder. But they lost some of their best defenders (Bradley, Green, and Howard) and replaced them with one very poor defender (Montrezl) who won the sixth man award, and the runner-up who isn’t much of a defender himself.

Lakers resigned KCP, signed Mathews to replace Green…

Max amount the Raptors can offer is $27 million this year.

Raptors current team salary $103M for 11 players

Otherwise Raptors have to pay tax.

Nets sign and trade. Prince and second rounder for Ibaka. 3 years for 36 mill. The nets will still have MLE for 3 and D wing. A stretch defrnsive big like Ibaka is so valuable in today’s game. Would even give up Dinwiddie instead of Prince to get it done.

Ibaka looks sexy right now because hes somewhat of a unicorn, but he’s no spring chicken. Not sure how many minutes you’re getting out of him for a full season, and not sure who has the luxury of paying top dollar for spot minutes. Maybe someone who drafted a young forward?

Crazy thing is we don’t actually even know how old he is … I highly doubt that man is only 31

Clippers should do a sign and trade for Lowry/Gasol…glad Harrell left..guy did nothing aside from dunks

They should do that cause the raptors are the team that you love to hate right? Clippers should trade for Eric Gordon…
