Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards (Western Conference) and Sixers center Joel Embiid (East) have been named the NBA’s players of the week, the league announced (via Twitter).
It’s the first player of the week award for Edwards, according to a Wolves press release. He helped lead Minnesota to a 4-0 record after averaging 31.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, 6.8 assists and 2.0 steals (36.5 minutes). The Wolves are currently 7-2, a half-game out of first place in the West.
Embiid, who helped lead Philadelphia to its own undefeated week at 4-0, averaged 36.3 points, 12.5 boards, 5.0 assists and 2.0 blocks in his four appearances (34.2 minutes). The 76ers have the best record in the NBA at 8-1 and have now had the East’s player of the week twice in the season’s first 21 days — Tyrese Maxey won the award in week one.
According to the NBA (Twitter links), the other nominees in the West were Anthony Davis, Cam Reddish, Luka Doncic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jerami Grant, Nikola Jokic and Alperen Sengun, while Bam Adebayo, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Tyrese Haliburton, Myles Turner, Caris LeVert, Mark Williams, and Maxey were nominated in the East.
Joel Embiid is going to be in both the MVP and Defensive Player of the Year discussion all year because he’s playing great. Him game is a blend of Hakeem Olajuwon and Patrick Ewing.
I think with him not playing with Ben Simmons or James Harden anymore it’s going to be the best thing to happen to him.
Tyrese Maxey is the best player he’s going to play with and I think he will finally get out the second round this year and make it to the Eastern Conference Finals.

I told my best friend this summer that Anthony Edwards is going to become the best shooting guard in the NBA.
I know we got some really nice ones out there like Devin Booker Donovan Mitchell and Jaylen Brown but Anthony Edwards is built different.
He has that two way player dog in him like Michael Jordan Kobe Bryant and Dwyane Wade got. Tracy McGrady had it to but his career couldn’t measure up to theirs because the injuries played a major factor in his. The talent was there for Tracy McGrady without question but he also lacked team success. Outside of his last year on the San Antonio Spurs riding the bench he never got out the first round.
Anthony Edwards has a chance to be in the conversation with some of the great shooting guards because he’s bringing that super athletic two way game!!!
Kid has a great personality too alot of his interviews ive watched had me laughing my a** off! I agree he is quickly becoming one of my favorite players!
