The Hawks are signing free agent wing Luke Kennard on a one-year, $11MM contract, ESPN’s Shams Charania reports (via Twitter).
Quite a few teams were rumored to be interested in Kennard and he chose to go to the Hawks, who also agreed to a sign-and-trade on Monday to acquire another prominent wing, Nickeil Alexander-Walker.
The Hawks will use a majority of their mid-level exception to sign Kennard. The 29-year-old has long been regarded as one of the top 3-point shooters in the league. He has knocked down 43.8 percent of his 3s during his 460-game career.
Kennard appeared in 65 games with the Grizzlies this past season, the most action he’s seen since he played 70 games with the Clippers in 2021/22. He averaged 8.9 points, 2.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists while making 43.3 percent of his long-range shots in 2024/25.
Kennard will provide guard/forward depth to a Hawks team that’s clearly looking to move up in what appears to be a wide-open Eastern Conference.
Give Trae Young an assist: He helped recruit Kennard to Atlanta, Charania adds in another tweet.
Jeez. And they have that Pelicans pick next season. Caw-caw
Might have a little gift from Hou as well coming
And don’t forget the other good addition so far. NAW! NAW!
I have hated on so many Sankara post about the hawks, but they are putting together a good to great offseason.
This guy plus NAW, Vit, Bufkin, Mo Gueye, Asa Newell & Porzingis form a really strong bench squad for us. A lot of shooting, a lot of defense, nice youth/vet mix
Forgot about Porzingis! HOT-lanta INDEED!
What is the possible Houston gift?
Cam Whitmore
Trae Young on notice.
11 million for what like 11 points a night maybe I wish I was a nba player
I know that I am going to get a major lot of negative feedback but please keep an open mind. With Trae Young soon to be eligeable for a costly extension with all the moves already made and next years draft picks would now be the time to trade him for what could be a boatload of assests. Remember only one year with him did we advance in the playoffs.
A boatload of assets would be nice but I’d be fine with just LeBron tbh. Outside of that, I like Trae to Portland for Scoot & Jerami Grant as well
I’d take there but earlier today there was a package i can’t remember from which team was multiple players and 3 first round picks
Yep. One more year of Trae. Free up flexibility and gain assets for a sustainable long term run of competitiveness seems like a great idea. Plenty of improvement from within this roster too. Pull the trigger.
Did Atlanta get a new GM? Why are they making moves that make sense?
100%. The guys they’re getting, I want on other teams lol
Trae, Kristaps, Okongwu, Zaccharie, Daniels, Nickeil, Kennard, Nance, Jalen Johnson and Krejci is a deep, deep roster. Great potential for top 4, easily. Can’t wait to see Trae and Kristaps working together. Really interesting, high ceiling team. I am loving their offseason so far, its early, but they for sure have made the most improvement out of any team so far in my opinion.
Hawks and Rockets have owned the off season so far.
I wanted Kennard for the Knicks. PLEASE, no Westbrook.
