There have been mixed reports about whether the Nets are open to trading Michael Porter Jr. ahead of the February 5 deadline, and one report said the Pelicans are shutting down trade inquiries on Trey Murphy III and Herbert Jones, among others. However, those three players currently sit atop the Warriors‘ trade wish list, sources tell Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints.
While he doesn’t state it outright, Siegel implies Jonathan Kuminga would be the primary outgoing salary in a deal for Murphy, with Golden State believed to be open to including two first-round picks. Siegel doesn’t include any details on what a potential offer for Jones might look like.
According to Siegel, early indications are the Warriors are reluctant to trade more than one first-rounder for Porter because a deal would include both Kuminga and Moses Moody. Siegel says Golden State is “very open” to moving Moody ahead of the deadline, explaining that front office has been a little disappointed that the 23-year-old hasn’t made more progress in his development.
It’s unclear if Brooklyn would accept such a package — or if the Nets will trade him at all — but Siegel writes that Porter may be the Warriors’ top trade target if they can acquire him for Kuminga, Moody, Buddy Hield and an unspecified first-round pick.
If Golden State is unable to land Porter, Murphy or Jones, Siegel hears the team would likely pivot to other wings and big men on the trade market, listing Naji Marshall, Ayo Dosunmu, Daniel Gafford and Bobby Portis as a few of the players who could be available and wouldn’t cost as much to acquire.

“Golden State is “very open” to moving Moody…”
No kidding. Moses Moody sucks.
His defense is good but so inconsistent on offense. They needed him to step up last night and he didn’t. A team needing defense could use him but he is more of a add on to trade money worth.
I respect your opinion arc, but I really don’t see it with his defense either.
Guys blow by him all the time and the big men need to come over and help which leaves the center and power forward of the other team open for offensive rebounds and put backs.
It’s just a bad situation all around.
You can see though that he’s worked hard on his shooting.
He’s a much better shooter than he was when he came in to the league. That takes hard work and hours in the gym. Much respect for that.
Moody is defending the other teams top PG since Curry’s defense has been slipping. Warriors do too much switching which causes the bad rotations. i also notice other teams target getting a much bigger player on Curry to shoot over him. warriors need for a 3rd scorer is even bigger than a center.
Good point on Moody’s shooting. That will keep him in nba for another 5-6 yrs.
Moody is a solid rotational SG-only. Kerr plays him at SF, a position he has never played anytime or place, and he gets destroyed by 6’9″ guys on defense. Much like how Podz, GP2, Buddy, Pat and Will get destroyed by taller and bigger guys.
Out of this group:
Podz
Payton II
Moody
Richard
Melton
Seth
Steph
Spencer
That’s WAY too many undersized guards. Can we all agree this is overkill? EIGHT tiny undersized guys who cannot play D vs larger opponents = poor roster construction, all at the behest of Steve Kerr, who apparently ONLY wants to play undersized players now, and loses and then says the team is washed…but its only bad because he plays all these undersized guys over Post and TJD. Aint no way GP2 brings more to the table in winning games than Post does. GP2 will give you memorable plays in a loss. Moody will space the floor in wins.
MPJ at least will bring size and space the floor AND allow Jimmy to play the SG spot.
arc89, Moody is not a defensive stopper. He’s a solid on-ball defender against bigger guards, but he’s not able to stay in front of the quicker ones.
Moody will always suffer from under average lateral movement. He’s also slow for an NBA guard, which is why he struggles to defend the 3pt line.
I’m higher on Moody than Gary, but he’ll never be more than a backup on a contending team.
Moody doesn’t suck, he’s a rotation level wing. He was the 14th pick. That’s about what one would expect from that spot in the draft. The Warriors drafted him for his floor not his ceiling. No one expected him to be a franchise savior except the Warriors faithful and maybe Joe Jacob. Sure hindsight says Sengun or Jalen Johnson would have been better picks but they were both project picks and the Warriors needed someone that could contribute immediately.
Chuck, he can’t defend his position and they tried moving him to a slower spot on the floor and he can’t defend that position either.
So he’s either too slow or not strong enough.
He has no handles, can’t create his own shot, and doesn’t rebound a lick.
He also doesn’t set up his teammates, has no vision, and he’s not someone you can count on to get a key basket in the fourth quarter of a close game.
He’ll commit a turnover, miss a layup, or do something else like dribble off his foot at the worst time.
I appreciate your comment but disagree with you and In my opinion he is not a rotation level wing. He’s an 11th man who deserves zero playing time.
Gary, please let us know how Podz and GP2 are better than Moody. Go on…both those two are 100x worse at everything than Moody is. Podz can call his own play, which he bricks. That doesn’t count.
Moody spaces the floor the best of the 3. Gary, you like Kerr seem to have totally forgotten how GSW wins with good defense.
Podz is an 11th man who deserves zero playing time. GP2 should not even be in the NBA, no one wants him other than dumb Kerr.
Not sure how the Warriors are going pull any of these top names into trade discussions when all they have to offer are raw players with undeveloped talent.
JK, Moody, Post, plus unwanted contracts like Buddy Hield, Gary Payton Pat Spencer, Jackson Davis…
If the Warriors want anyone of significance, it’s going to cost at least 2 first round picks included in any deal. Otherwise, it ain’t happening.
The decision must be made. Go for it during Curry’s last year and a half or hold onto the pics and waste the franchise‘s greatest player of all time remaining 18 months.
Warriors absolutely needs to give up 2 first picks for Porter. It’s a great trade for the Warriors.
Maybe not two for Porter. But two or three total to bring in those two quality dudes, whoever they may be.
reports are warriors are not willing to trade 2 1st round picks. Its unfortunate that the Kings have nobody the warriors can flip for players.
It’s because Nets were trying to demand 3 picks.
One report had them ask for 2 1st round picks and the warriors said 1. i might rather do Kuminga and Moody for Claxton and Thomas.
Here’s one name I’d like to throw out there as a favorite of mine. Caleb Martin.
He’s with the Mavericks, but has an undesirable contract, sort of. He hasn’t played well the last year or two, but he was huge for the heat and I think he’s a gamer.
Tough defense and was able to hit the three ball in the past.
He has two more years after this one at around 10 million per.
If the warrior strike a deal with the Mavericks, could Martin be included as a “negative asset” and help bring over a guy like Marshall as well ?
It may lower the cost The Warriors would have to pay if Caleb was included ?
I think he’s a bounce back candidate and he’s playoff proven.
If the mavs GM want to shred payroll and get under the cap they could do a big trade. gafford, Thompson and martin to warriors for Kuminga, Moody, and TJD. that would free up $45 million next year for Mavs payroll that is as of right now would be over $217 million next year.
Who would say that Killer Klay would come back after the All-Star break? I like that trade.
I would add another rotation wing that can run up and down the court to cover for the running, defense and fast break, so that’s while Murphy would be the ideal target, but in paper Gafford Thompson and Martin would be good additions. I think it would be great for the Warriors to have Klay again, with green light to shoot threes off the bench. That would be a chemistry boost, I see Draymond playing better with him.
Don’t think Klay wants to be there. He’d checked out.
@Julian Klay makes too much money and GSW cant afford to get him unless they trade Draymond for him.
@arc, GSW is over the apron by like $16M or $17M with that trade.
Klay isn’t a fit in any deal with GSW unless Draymond is involved, and Klay is even more washed than Dray is.
Alright, I wasn’t considering Klay’s contract, nor his will to come back. It could be a great story and a real boost if somehow it can be pulled off.
I do believe Klay will come back to GSW on a min wage deal at the end of his career. GSW should offer him 1/$4M a year all team options, and keep bringing him back until he retires.
MPJ is a terrible idea. Besides, I’m pretty sure the Nets are aiming a little higher than Kuminga. That dudes going to need years worth of therapy after his time in San Fran.
Does Kuminga have any confidence left?
MPJ isn’t worth that trade proposal either. Denver gave him away. Warriors should keep Moodey too in my opinion.
I’d be very interested to see the starting lineup if somehow MPJ does end up in San Fran.
Kerr just loves that podz for some reason I’ve never been able to see.
MPJ is OK but his offense stats are over stated on a real bad team. He is not worth more than 1 1st round pick.
Arc….you won’t be saying he’s OK if he suits up for Golden State. Dudes a worse defender than James Harden. He’s comical on the defensive glass too. If you get a chance watch his next game and just watch him off the ball. It’s a good laugh. Dude literally gets out of the way and gives up multiple offensive boards per game. I don’t think he ever learnt to box out or maybe he’s just extremely soft because he certainly doesn’t roll up the sleeves and do the little things for his team. You can’t hide him and Steph come playoff time, they’ll be hunted relentlessly on the defensive end.
Nothing wrong with Naji Marshall by the way, dude plays hard and costs next to nothing. You need more work horses, more toughness in my opinion.
Actually Porter is good weak side rim protector and cleans up the the glass quite well for a guy that’s usually on the perimeter. He also uses his length to cut off passing lanes. He’s slow laterally so he’s not great in one on one situations so he has a hard time with faster players, especially when he gets switched onto guards.
Disagree strongly. How many of his boards freebies or contested. It’s a switch everything league, rim protection isn’t what it use to be. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen MPJ let an opponent just waltz pass him for an offensive board. Dude was the worst player in the series Denver v Thunder which went 7. Expensive shooter, by all means go get him….won’t end well.
i am not sold on porters defense that is why I would not go all in on him. I would do Kuminga and Moody for Claxton and Thomas. Claxton and Post would be your centers. Move horford to pF and Thomas is your 3rd scorer even though your defense takes a hit with Thomas.
Cam thinks he’s Kobe. I can see you open Steph….I’ve got this, oops.
things every NBA fan knows for $1000 Alex. like this is new.
A wishlist? So, no trades in the foreseeable future.
With the foundation of Horford, Green Butler, Steph and Melton, all you need to add is two playoff proven dudes.
One power forward type who moves the needle and one wing or guard type, who can defend, handle the ball, and score a little bit.
That’s enough to make noise and if they stay healthy, they make the playoffs and could upset someone in the first and second round.
That’s really all you can hope for and let the chips fall where they may. Maybe you get lucky and make it to the Conf finals?
Again, it’s all about health in the playoffs. We’ve seen it time and time again. Sometimes the Warriors benefit sometimes they don’t.
Does Horford have enough left to be the guy they need? And, would Porter add enough extra to get to an NBA Finals? I don’t see it, but I defer to Gary here.
Yeah, who knows Meadowlark. I just know they need to do something, almost anything.
They can’t go into the post season as they sit today.
Good point on Horford. Crossing my fingers with him.
No Horford doesn’t have what it takes to be a full time starter but he still some left to offer in matchup dependant situations in the playoffs.
Warriors just need 15-20 minutes per
Don’t do it Brooklyn
MPJ cost the nuggets an unprotected first rounder to dump him, and now he’s costing the warriors a first rounder on top of kuminga? Insane. He obviously can’t produce these numbers on a contender.
The Nuggets were forced to trade Porter away because of how they like to operate with the salary cap.
He did win a ring as a starting forward on that team by the way.
Also, Cam Johnson was considered a very well regarded player.
Don’t see N.O. trading Murphy . He is just starting to break out. Zion is the guy they need to move. I don’t know where they are with him. Murphy is a nice talent. He would be great if you can get him.
Nets will move MPJ cause they want a top 3 pick. Plus more picks for this draft. This draft lottery is loaded. Nets are a good place for Kuminga. Considering Warriors will take on that salary. Kuminga and a pick should be enough. I just want a future pick #1 in 2029 or 2030.
MPJ is a good fit in GS. He will get plenty of looks there. That helps Jimmy and Steph get easier shots. To have another consistent scorer is huge man. Plus he is playing with a chip on his shoulder. He helps plenty. Just think you are adding a 25 pt scorer. For a guy who doesn’t play.
Do kuminga & MPJ’s salaries match?
No they have to like 15 mill. Moody and pick gets it done.

I think NOP has already fumbled the Dyson Daniels trade, another two-way player who is thriving in Atlanta. They got Dejounte who tore his Achilles. I would say they’d rather keep those kind of players, bro is young and playing better and better, so they shouldn’t move him.
They could move Herb Jones, maybe some team could overpay and then you send him.
Dejounte is the guy to trade. Maybe the Bucks pique. But now Giannis said that he won’t ask for a trade, so they should be chillin and don’t act desperate.
Daniels isn’t exactly thriving this season. He’s still good on defense and is becoming a very good passer but his shooting has been putrid. .113 on 1.6 just might get him played off the floor come crunch time in the playoffs.
How do they expect to get players that have value when they have devalued Kuminga?
Moody isn’t really a plus either, must be attaching 2 picks to move them for actual guys that play and contribute.
The Nets can only collect so many first round picks before they begin cutting those picks. 5 from the Knicks, let’s say 2 or 3 from GS if a deal were to happen, plus the 3 they just had this year and their own coming up. The entire team would all be rookies with more coming in.
Keep Porter. He may play out to be really good at SF.
Heild, Seth Curry and Melton to Dallas for Klay Thompson
Exum is waived
Promote Spencer, sign Wiseman, waive Cryer, sign two people of your choosing on two way contracts
Start Klay and Horford but play up to 25 minutes a game depending on their play.
Jackson-Davis strictly a PF and Richard a PG.
Say sorry to Kuminga and play him as a sixth man SF/PF getting 27 minutes a game, two years away from starting imo so maybe trade him
Players need playing time to develop, as simple as. GSW have been plain awful at developing players. Prime example, Kuminga, he is clearly an all-star at the least in the league and they have done everything possible to sabotage his career, a real disgrace if you ask me!
Is he “clearly an all-star” though? Maybe his development has been stunted, or maybe the ceiling people put on him was too high. Watching him shoot is pretty painful.
El Don Always Wrong, many will agree with the concept of your comment here but wow, this is just not accurate and not a real representation of the situation at hand.
Sure, the development hasn’t gone as planned, but the dude‘s not All-Star potential.
