Draft Decisions: Antetokounmpo, Bowen, Kurucs, Bonga

Kostas Antetokounmpo opted to remain in the draft prior to Monday afternoon’s early-entry deadline, ESPN’s Jonathan Givony tweets. The 6’10” forward, Giannis Antetokounmpo‘s brother, cancelled all of his remaining scheduled private workouts, Givony adds. That suggests that he might have a guarantee from some team to draft him.

The Dayton freshman averaged a mere 5.2 PPG and 2.9 RPG in 15.1 MPG during his lone college season. Givony has the younger Antetokounmpo ranked No. 57 in his latest Top 100 rankings.

We have other early-entrant decisions to pass along:

  • Swingman Brian Bowen has withdrawn his name from the draft, Adam Zagoria of Zagsblog.com reports. Bowen, who was swept up in the Louisville scandal and then transferred to South Carolina, would have had to sit out next college season. He is now free to pursue opportunities in the NBA G League or overseas and then potentially re-enter the draft next year, Zagoria adds.
  • Rodions Kurucs will remain in the draft, Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports tweets. The 6’10” Latvian forward, who withdrew from the draft last year, is ranked No. 42 by Givony. Isaac Bonga has also remained in the June draft, Charania adds in another tweet. The 6’9”, 18-year-old German forward is ranked No. 54 by Givony.
  • Matur Maker, brother of the Bucks’ Thon Maker, has withdrawn from the draft, Zagoria tweets.
  • Karim Jallow, a small forward from Greece, has decided to pass on this year’s draft, according to Givony (Twitter link). He was ranked No. 67. Georgios Kalaitzakis and Vasilis Charalampopoulos, another pair of Greek prospects, have withdrawn their names, Givony tweets. The same goes for two French prospects, Adam Mokoka and Amine Noua, Givony adds in another tweet.
  • We relayed several other prospects’ decisions earlier today, including that of Luka Doncic.

Draft Updates: Vick, Travis, Harper, Charalampopoulos

Kansas guard Lagerald Vick appears set to forgo his senior year and begin his professional career, according to an announcement from the Jayhawks. Vick’s own statement indicates that he doesn’t plan to hire an agent at the moment, which would give him the opportunity to withdraw his name from the draft pool and play one more college season. However, the press release from the program makes it sound as if he won’t be back.

“I believe the time is right for him to move on, explore his options as a professional and see what develops,” coach Bill Self said of Vick. “We won a lot of games with Lagerald over the last three years and appreciate everything he’s done for Kansas and our basketball program. We are 100% supportive of his decision and wish him the very best in whatever path this takes him.”

Here are more of the latest updates on early entrants for the 2018 NBA draft:

  • Stanford forward Reid Travis is declaring for the 2018 draft without hiring an agent, the school announced today. Travis, who averaged an impressive 19.5 PPG and 8.7 RPG as a junior, will have until May 30 to withdraw his name and retain his NCAA eligibility.
  • Auburn sophomore guard Jared Harper is testing the NBA draft waters, according to a press release. Harper is coming off a season in which he averaged 13.2 PPG and 5.4 APG while shooting 35.5% on three-pointers.
  • Greek forward Vasilis Charalampopoulos is the latest international early entrant to join 2018’s draft pool, according to ESPN’s Jonathan Givony. A veteran of Greek powerhouse Panathinaikos, Charalampopoulos says it has “always been a dream” to play in the NBA. “Entering the draft gives me the opportunity to challenge myself outside of Europe,” he said. “This decision to enter the draft was not difficult. The difficult part was finding when the right time was for me.”
  • Texas A&M junior Admon Gilder is entering the draft without an agent, a source tells Jon Rothstein of FanRag Sports (Twitter link). The 6’4″ guard averaged 12.3 PPG on .458/.395/.821 shooting in 2017/18.
  • Tyler Hall, a junior guard from Montana State, announced (via Twitter) that he’ll test the NBA draft waters this spring. The Bobcats’ leading scorer (17.5 PPG) will have the opportunity to return for his senior year if he removes his name from consideration by May 30.

Draft Rumors: Collins, Carroll, Brunson, Lessort

Gonzaga big man Zach Collins has signed with veteran agent Mark Bartelstein of Priority Sports, according to Michael Scotto of Basketball Insiders. The 7-footer is ranked No. 12 by both DraftExpress and ESPN Insider Chad Ford. The freshman helped his draft status during the Zags’ run to the national title game. He declared for the draft last week.

In other news regarding the draft:

  • Euroleague prospect Vasilis Charalampopoulos will not enter the draft, international journalist David Pick tweets, citing a source. He wants more Euroleague exposure, Pick adds. The 20-year-old small forward, who plays for Panathinaikos, is listed at No. 10 in DraftExpress’ International 1997 rankings.
  • Oklahoma State forward Jeffrey Carroll has opted not to go through the draft process, Jeff Goodman of ESPN tweets. Carroll decided to test the waters late last month after a breakout junior season with the Cowboys in which he averaged 17.5 PPG and 6.6 RPG.

  • French draft prospect Mathias Lessort has signed with Wasserman and will be represented by Jason Ranne and former Pistons executive George David, HoopsHype tweets. The 6-9 forward is rated No. 34 by DraftExpress and No. 51 by Ford.
