Southeast Notes: Isaac, Beal, Bryant, Bamba

The prospects for Magic forward Jonathan Isaac playing during the league restart are improving, Chris Hays of the Orlando Sentinel writes. Isaac, who hasn’t played since he injured his left knee on New Year’s Day, hasn’t been allowed in contact drills yet but he is participating in other team drills. He’s “optimistic” about returning, according to Josh Robbins of The Athletic (Twitter link). “I have no reservations in my mind about it,” Isaac said. “If I’m ready to play and if I get the clearance, I’m ready to go.”

We have more from the Southeast Division:

  • Wizards All-Star guard Bradley Beal, who will sit out the restart, has joined a group of investors bidding to buy the New York Mets, according to Vaughn McClure of ESPN. Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is also part of the group that has joined forces with Alex Rodriguez and pop star Jennifer Lopez attempting to purchase the team. The group has submitted an initial bid of $1.7 billion.
  • Wizards center Thomas Bryant reportedly tested positive for COVID-19 last week. However, it appears Bryant will eventually join the club in Orlando, Ava Wallace of the Washington Post tweets. “He’ll be back with us in a little while,” teammate Troy Brown said. “The biggest thing is making sure he’s OK.”
  • Magic big man Mohamed Bamba used the time off to bulk up, he told Hays in a separate Orlando Sentinel story. “My mentality the whole entire time we were quarantined was to gain an inch every day and it really took, literally, every day going through it to get to where I am,” Bamba said. “It took changing my diet, it took intense workouts and it took leaning on the Magic’s strength and conditioning staff to provide a plan for me.”

  1. Simmons>Russ

Spurs swap Derrick White and DeMare DeRozan for Aaron Gordon and Mo Bamba

Then trade LaMarcus Aldridge and a second round pick for Gary Harris

Spurs go young and begin a small rebuild

    1. Murray. Mills
    2. Harris. Walker
    3. Gay. Johnson
    4. Gordon. Lyles
    5. Poetl. Bamba

    • Magic 24/7

      That’s not good for Magic.

Magic FO is very high on Bamba, I seriously doubt they trade him unless he’s part of a package for a young legit star or potential star wing. That isn’t DD or White.

Gordon will be traded eventually, but I doubt its for DeRozan as he isn’t a good fit + is expiring. The Magic already have Fournier/Ross who can defend 2’s and smaller 3’s. Combined they make same as DeRozan, are younger + better fit and don’t cost any outgoing assets.

      • Trade vucevic and gordon plus pick to nola for brandon ingram and jrue.sign and trade.i believe bamba will be a great defender if he get minutes. Magic starter will be fults, jrue,bi,issacc, bamba. Its a thought defensive team.

        • I give no fox

That trade doesn’t make much sense for Nola, unless ingram says he won’t re-sign. I don’t see how a front court of gordon/vuc/Zion works out. I also think the magic need to give up more to get ingram and holiday. This trade takes away nola’s two best scoring wings, with no clear replacement, I don’t see why Nola makes this move

          • Nola need to build around zion.he is the batman in nola.i dont think bi will agree to be robin.and i said plus pick.not just vucevic and gordon.2021 1st round pick.its a great class pick.zion and vucevic will be a great duo big.gordon can play at sf.

  2. king beas

Poeltl wouldn’t start over bamba he only plays 16 minutes a game currently and doesn’t have close to the same upside. Also don’t think the magic would trade those two for players that don’t move the needle much and are older

    • harden-westbrook-mvps

It’s just like Zubac starting over Harrell with the Clippers.
