The Bucks are among the teams with interest in Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant, multiple league sources tell Jim Owczarski of The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel (subscription required).
Morant, a two-time All-Star who has been plagued by injury and off-court woes in recent years, will miss his fifth straight game on Sunday vs. Brooklyn due to a right calf contusion, per the NBA’s official injury report.
This is the first report we’ve seen definitively linking Milwaukee to Morant, who is on the trading block.
In order to match salaries with Morant, who is earning approximately $39.5MM this season and is under contract through 2027/28, an outgoing Bucks package would likely start with Kyle Kuzma ($22.4MM). There are multiple ways to make the money work from there with additional players included.
While Morant makes some sense as a buy-low candidate for the Bucks, who are trying to get back into contention in the Eastern Conference around two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, his on-court fit seems shaky. For starters, Morant has never been a great shooter, and Milwaukee’s two best players this season outside of Antetokounmpo have arguably been point guards (Ryan Rollins and Kevin Porter Jr.).
The Bucks also continue to be intrigued by Kings shooting guard Zach LaVine, Owczarski reports. Milwaukee has been connected to multiple players on Sacramento’s roster, though the two teams reportedly weren’t engaged in active trade conversations as of last week.

Bucks should fire gm, he has completely lost his senses. Trade GA to Hawks for Pels pick and Porz expiring.
Having two high lottery picks could speed up rebuild.
Try to hustle Bulls in Turner-Vuchevic trade and get there at least one first.
“Try to hustle” isn’t a strategy
With the bulls, it always is
It’s a mindset.
Grizzlies are likely to take this offer for Morant this week
Grizzlies get
DeRozan
Saric
Carter
2026 First – top-2 protected or 2027 unprotected First
Kings get
Morant
Westbrook and Morant on the same team… good luck with that!
Well, then again, Sac IS trying to be bad.
You claim Horst has completely lost his senses and the propose two awful trades? Not sure you’re helping your argument.
“There are multiple ways to make the money work.” Bobby Portis would have to be included, for all practical purposes. Kuzma+Portis gets the money balanced for Morant with the ability to add additional parts or draft pick compensation from Milwaukee to make the trade enticing for Memphis to execute the deal.
No picks because Morant is not that good and injured often. Kuzma and Portis deals are shorter. Bucks lose depth too in the move
WHY lol
off court antics and injury history. Bucks should stay away from this idea
You can’t honestly believe this is true. It’s click bait. How would JA and Giannis play on the same team? They both can’t shoot and drive to the rim to get buckets. Obviously Giannis does more. But the team is going nowhere and Giannis doesn’t have a trade market without cleaning the other team out. Only team that could trade just multiple picks is San Antonio and wimby doesn’t want to play with Giannis (and I respect that). New York there going to have to give up OG. And I don’t think that makes them better than the West teams. Plus will Milwaukee take Kat?
Right. Giannis is your star and he’s spectacular. Don’t diminish that by adding another spectacular.
This team loves making expensively, bad trades.
Most of them because of Giannis’ desire
Very true
Why would any team want to add a headache like Morant to their team on purpose???
Desperation
And even pay him millions.
And Tee Morant
Grizzlies aren’t salary dumping Morant. Bucks don’t have the assets to trade for Morant. Memphis is not rebuilding or retooling. They simply would trade their star PG for assets. To make their team better right now. Bucks have no chance of getting Morant.
What do you mean they have no chance KnuckleheadAl? If they want him, they can get him. Not saying they should, but they could easily acquire him if they want. Grizzlies aren’t getting much back for him, there are hardly any teams interested. Grizzlies would trade him immediately if either Ryan Rollins or Bucks 2031 1st rd pick is part of deal. Again, I’m not saying they should do it but if Giannis wants them to get him it COULD happen. Also, my apologies for writing complete sentences, I know. It’s not. Your. Style.
No AL is correct. What does Milwaukee have at the grizzlies want? Nothing they have no chance nor would the fit work. Giannis and ja can’t shoot. Ja has off court and on court problems. It either seems to stay healthy. Although Giannis is so way better player its a terrible fit and Milwaukee has nothing to give up
KnuckleheadAl also claimed that the Spurs were for sure trading for Giannis in the offseason. Makes a lot of. predictions that never. Happen. He’s right. About 1%. Of the. Time
Spurs thing is not happening
You should talk to Davey J. He would love to explain it to you. Why don’t you tell us all how Bucks get him. I like a good laugh with my coffee.
It wouldn’t be a pure salary dump, it would be cutting bait on a bum that doesn’t want to be there anymore.
He’s a big asset who has plenty of game. You don’t just give him away. He has value out there. Plus the Grizz would then need a PG. Raptors and TWolves seem rightfully interested. Rumors about Heat. Jazz should be interested. Feb 5 is coming.
Atl made a bad trade because they waited to long. Trey is a decent player 20/10 just can’t be the man. Ja ( I don’t think can be your number one player just because of his on and off court antics) not really a leader but he’s very explosive and in the right system. Could work being the number two or number three guy. So they have a year and half before they’re in the same situation ATL is in.
Imo Atl has that Pels pick coming. So sees a great opportunity to get a bigger PG. there are some good ones top 5. At the same time retooling around younger talent and freeing up cap space. Still should have asked for a future pick.
Morant won’t be a salary dump imo. Memphis a small market values their assets more. Morant is a good PG scorer. He has value for right team.
The Hawks have a big PG. Dyson Daniels is 6’7″ and has played the point before. He can’t run a half court set but the Hawks run their half court offense through Jalen Johnson. CJ can run the offense while Johnson rests. Like everybody else they need guys that can shoot, cut and defend. Every starter but Daniels can shoot at least a little bit. They all can defend and Okongwu and Daniels are food cutters. Their best use for that N.O. pick is to upgrade from Risacher. Not necessarily trade him but get a better wing and bring him off the bench.
He’s not a PG …. Vit Krejci has been running point with Trae out. With Wallace also playing.
You need to look up the draft. Inform yourself on the PGs in draft. Look up scouting reports.
Watch a Hawks game or at least look up the Hawks official depth chart. Kejci has not been running point. He’s only started three games all season. He’s ran the offense a bit in spurts but he’s definitely not “running point” His most recent start was on 01/09 where he started in place of Risacher. Daniels has started every game he’s been available for at Point when Trae wasn’t available.
I know who’s in the draft. For the Hawks Dybansta, Peterson or Boozer would be the best but they’d be the best for anyone if they’re available and it’s your team’s turn to pick. If the Pelicans pick falls out of that range then they should go after Wilson. If disaster strikes and their pick falls way down then Quaintance.

You know what game logs are ???? 👀👀
look them up …..
Last 5 gms Krejci has played 27 mins, 19 mins,
27 mins, 23 mins, 29 mins.
Don’t waste my time.
Yeah, Krejci has started one game in the last 5 and averaged 1.75 assists? In the same time frame Daniels has started all 5 games and averaged 8.2 assists and is coming off a triple double while Johnson averaged 7.6 assists. Yup you’re right, Krejci is definitely “running the point”
Do you inow who Tyson is ????
Do you watch the Hawks. Do you know why the Hawks got Tyson ……..
Tyson isn’t a PG never will be. You need to learn what a PG means. School is closed for me.
Tyson Daniels is a CAREER 3.7 ast man. He is NOT a PG. He doesn’t run an offense or manage a game. That is what defines a PG. He was signed as defensive player to watch Traes back. Cause they saw his D. He has grown up as a player in Atlanta. His ast this yr are up. Which is impressive 6 ast. But he is not a PG …… at 22 he is still developing. So one day he could be more a combo guard. He will NEVER be a PG. He has looked better. But I stand by what I say.
Ok, I’ll admit that I’m not sure who Tyson is. Whomever he is I didn’t bring him up.
I’ve followed his career since he was drafted because I like his play style. DYSON Daniels played point guard for the Australian national team, The NBA ignite, The Pelicans and Hawks. Here’s a link to his basketball reference page.

If you look at the top you’ll notice his position is listed as Point Guard and Shooting Guard.
Here’s a link to the 2023-24 Pelicans roster page.

You’ll notice he’s listed as a PG.
He was primarily a reserve in New Orleans. As a result he didn’t tally high assists numbers. When he got to Atlanta Trae played point so he was shoehorned into SG so he could start and cover for Trae defensively. When Trae sat he played point. This season with Trae sidelined he’s averaged 6.6 with Johnson being the primary playmaker.
Once again it doesn’t matter. They don’t need a traditional PG because Snyder runs the offense through Jalen Johnson. Daniels just needs to start hitting his jumpers.
They are the same guy lol. Both aren’t PGs. Daniels never played PG in NBA. They can call him what they want. At 22 he may be more a PG later in career. But as of yet. He has played the 2 in the NBA. Just cause you saw him play some point while Trae is out. Doesn’t make him a PG.
and I’ll admit he has gotten better as an offensive guard. But to be a PG takes yrs of doing it. Trae has played 10 gns this yr. Krejci the Backup PG has played major mins since.
Give him the yr. We will see if he plays like a PG.
Got burnt calling him Tyson lol 😝
Otherwise I do agree with you. But man… if you’re gonna be saucy you can’t be loud and wrong on a name of all things.
Yeah I just went with it. Sounded right lol. Thise Aussis
He did play PG when he first came into the NBA but with bad results
He played more with the ball now. Had 8 ast tonight. Not running the team. The offense runs itself. Coach is looking at him to run the team more. I’m impressed. Never did that with Trae. I knew he ran some point on national team. He’s never done it in NBA. Still a ways for a real PG. Gonna watch
Ok, You’re right. Basketball reference is wrong and the Pelicans listed him in the wrong position on their depth chart when he played there.
Just take an L Al.
Should watch him more. I really like him. I saw last yr his improvement. And could see another Jimmy in him. Didn’t see a PG. We will see how year plays out. Definitely has the opportunity to play point now. Only 22, I still rather him at the 2. Just like I rather Amen at the 2. Can do more damage there. Best positions for both.
I was only off by a letter lol. 🧐
Krecji is starting for RISACHER, who is out the last few with injury. Krecji has been playing SF all year (backing up Risacher). Learn how to peruse lineup data. And substitution logs. And Playtype data. Krecji is a 3PT wing and not much else.
Alexander-Walker is the player who has been starting for Trae, with Daniels taking on added playmaking duties (since he’s terrible off-ball)
Stop talking about teams you don’t watch.
Also, I know you’re going to lead with
“Basketball-Reference has Vit Krecji listed at PG”
Basketball-Reference makes mistakes. They don’t even have the aforementioned Keaton Wallace listed on the Hawks roster.
(I already sent them an error submission a few days ago, which they forwarded to their data dept)
They set that as his position years ago and never changed it (when OKC was experimenting with him, in the Poku days). He hasn’t played PG in years.
Of course, I’m fully aware I’m talking to Mr. Double Down who still thinks Miles McBride is a PG while he’s starting games next to Brunson and never passes the ball lol. That might be half of why you think Krecji is a PG, since their games are so similar!
This passes the smell test. The risk, hobbling the franchise for years, is on par with stretching Lillard for Turner. Kuzma, Portis, Porter and a pick for Morant, Wells and Jackson.
I know it’s hard to believe but Morant is an upgrade basketball wise and character wise over Rollins and Kevin Porter. Do it Bucks
Not news. Bucks are pursuing everyone. It’s the trade deadline. This is what happens.
Enjoy your clicks article writer.
This at first glance makes sense for the bucks, but Kevin Porter Jr. has been playing well recently, and it would have to be him, Portis and Kuzma to go.
None of these contracts end after this season, which would make for a negative trade value imo.
So, the bucks would have to dip into their future draft picks before securing Giannis next contract. That’s a risk not worth taking, as the team won’t have any way of improving themselves around Giannis and Morant to get themselves to a contender level, due to the Lillard’s stretching.
I think the bucks have to move Giannis now, before he ages poorly as a non-shooting big man.
Bucks are interested in any sort of move that might get Giannis to stay. Unfortunately for them, their limited assets handicap their ability to make moves that are meaningful.
You have to smell the bacon here if you’re the Bucks. Giannis value only goes down from here. Offseason might be a better time to ship him out but if Giannis is on this team by next September, that FO has laid a tremendous egg.
MIL doesn’t have the assets to make a arms length deal for Morant (unless Giannis is involved). But I see no problem in the FO indicating that they have interest in acquiring Morant. Why not, it’s free. I imagine MIL is interested in every talented player that might raise their ceiling, as its the ceiling they’re selling to Giannis as a reason to extend.
Memphis currently has the 31st pick (from IND) and Washington has the 30th pick (from OKC). In a three-team deal, the Bucks send Kuzma + more salary + their 1st rounder (currently 11th) to Memphis. Grizzlies send Ja to Milwaukee. Wizards give Bucks the OKC pick and receive something to move back one spot.
I don’t necessarily think the Bucks should trade for Ja, but if they wanted to, they have ways of making it happen.
You watching Hawks. See the backcourt.
Dyson and Krejci
Yup I saw. The Point forward had 6 assists, the “Shooting guard” had 9 assists while the “Point guard” had 0 assists. In their last game the “Shooting Guard” had 10 assists while the “Point Guard” had 1.
You know I like Daniels cause he reminds me of Jimmy B. A player who thru hard work and commitment made himself a star player. Obviously I don’t watch him like I watch the Knicks. He’s gone from a D guy to a potential 2way guy. And now even running some point. I never saw him as a PG.
Even Jimmy can run some point doesn’t make him a PG. Today cause they talk about a new NBA. Folks throw around the name of positions just cause there are 5 players on the floor. I don’t buy all that. A real Center is not just anyone they put at the 5. I love Sabonis game. He will never be a real C to me. I Like Dyson, I have a lot of respect of what he is becoming. Not sure he can he a PG. Time will tell. I see a hybrid guard/foward. With great 2way potential. A la Jimmy Butler. I can take Ls lol. When its about balling.
Now talk about Vit Krecji’s game LOL. Since you were so sure.
A bunch of fluff to say nothing at all.
Bucks would make far more sense to go after LaVine…
Morant is a clog… needs to be used as main ball handler and they have Giannis…
Zach can play off Giannis better… Makes them more of a playoff team than a contender…
