NBA D-League Assignments/Recalls: 1/30/17

Here are Monday’s D-League assignments and recalls from around the NBA:

10:01 pm:

  • The Bulls have assigned Denzel Valentine to their D-League affiliate, the Windy City Bulls, according to a team press release.  The rookie scored 24 points while adding eight assists and seven rebounds in his only D-League appearance this season.
  • The Clippers have assigned Diamond Stone to the Salt Lake City Stars, according to the team’s website. The franchise does not have its own D-League affiliate, so it will use the league’s flex assignment rule.

2:05 pm:

  • The Pelicans have taken advantage of the flexible assignment rule by sending rookie big man Cheick Diallo to the D-League, the team announced today (via Twitter). Because New Orleans doesn’t have its own NBADL affiliate, Diallo will join the Greensboro Swarm, Charlotte’s D-League club.
  • The Raptors have assigned Bruno Caboclo to the D-League, according to the team (Twitter link). The Raptors 905 will play in Canton tomorrow, though it’s not clear if Caboclo’s assignment will last that long, given how often he has been shuttled up and down this season.
  • Pistons youngsters Henry Ellenson, Darrun Hilliard, and Michael Gbinije have been sent to the Grand Rapids Drive, per a press release issued by the club. The trio hasn’t seen a ton of action for the NBA team this season, but has combined to average 57.2 total PPG in D-League action.

Sixers Sign Chasson Randle To Three-Year Deal

3:12pm: The Sixers have officially re-signed Randle, the team announced today in a press release. The club is now carrying 15 guaranteed contracts on its roster.

11:35am: After signing him to a pair of 10-day contracts, the Sixers will ink point guard Chasson Randle to a multiyear contract that locks him up for the rest of this season, and for two years after that, reports Shams Charania of The Vertical (via Twitter).

As Charania details, the three-year pact, which will be guaranteed for the rest of this season, will feature trigger dates for subsequent guarantees in years two and three. Based on Charania’s report, it sounds like the Sixers will probably have the option to waive Randle in either of the next two summers without taking on dead money. Bobby Marks of The Vertical (Twitter link) has the details on what Randle’s cap hits will look like, assuming the young guard signs a standard minimum salary contract.

Randle, who went undrafted in 2015, appeared headed toward a roster spot with the Knicks in October, but was waived after suffering an orbital bone fracture. He subsequently joined the Westchester Knicks in the D-League as an affiliate player and averaged 20.7 PPG to go along with a shooting line of .422/.402/.825 in 19 games.

That solid showing in the D-League earned Randle an audition with the Sixers, which in turn led to two 10-day contracts. With that second 10-day deal now expired, Philadelphia had to either sign the Stanford product for the rest of the season or let him return to free agency. The team opted to keep Randle around rather than opening up a spot on the 15-man roster.

Randle, who will turn 24 next week, has appeared in just four games during his time with the Sixers, averaging 4.0 PPG in 7.3 minutes per contest.

Nets Sign Quincy Acy To Two-Year Deal

2:37pm: Acy’s new contract will pay him $1.79MM for the rest of this season and a non-guaranteed $1.7MM next year, tweets Bobby Marks of The Vertical. That makes the deal worth significantly more than the minimum for this season, with Brooklyn using cap space to complete the signing. The move will bring the team to within about $6.43MM of the salary floor.

JANUARY 30, 1:22pm: The Nets have issued a press release formally confirming that Acy’s new multiyear deal with the team is official.

JANUARY 29, 1:47pm: The Nets will sign power forward Quincy Acy to a two-year deal, Shams Charania of The Vertical reports (on Twitter). It is not yet known how much the contract is worth. Brooklyn had to choose whether or not to sign Acy for at least the remainder of this season, since his second 10-day pact was set to expire.

The cap hit on Acy for this season will be $451K for Brooklyn if it’s a minimum salary deal, Bobby Marks of The Vertical tweets. Acy has played well for Brooklyn and has brought elements of toughness and energy to the squad. He has appeared in 10 games for Brooklyn, averaging 7.0 points and 2.7 rebounds. He has also improved his shot this season.

The Nets orginally signed Acy on January 10th after Brooklyn waived Anthony Bennett. Acy was playing for the D-League’s Texas Legends at the time of the move. Acy appeared in four games with the Nets during his initial contract, playing in more than five minutes in a single contest just once. Acy, who had his best season while being a member of the Knicks in 2014/15, began this season with the Mavericks, but was waived in November when backcourt injuries forced the team to add another guard.

Grizzlies Re-Sign Toney Douglas, Waive Troy Williams

JANUARY 30: The Grizzlies have officially re-signed Douglas to a 10-day deal, announcing in a press release that they’ve waived Williams to create a roster spot.

JANUARY 29: The Grizzlies are finalizing a deal to bring Toney Douglas back on a 10-day contract, tweets Michael Wallace of Grizzlies.com. The team waived the 30-year-old point guard on December 15 after a six-game stint.

Initially signed by the Grizzlies in early December via a hardship exception, Douglas will hit the ground running at least somewhat familiar with the systems in place in Memphis. He averaged 5.8 points per game during his first stint there and the club went 5-1.

The Grizzlies are expected to release Troy Williams to make room on their roster. After going undrafted in the 2016 NBA Draft, Williams caught on with Memphis and saw action in 22 games. Though briefly featured heavily in early December — he played 30-plus minutes six times between November 26 and December 13 — the 22-year-old last took the court for the Grizzlies on December 18.

NBA D-League Assignments/Recalls: 1/28/17

Here are the D-League transactions for Saturday:

10:10 pm:

  • The Bulls have assigned Denzel Valentine to their D-League affiliate, the Windy City Bulls, according to a team press release. Valentine has seen action in 27 contests for the NBA club. He’s averaging 3.3 points in 11.9 minutes per game this season.
  • The Grizzlies have recalled Wade Baldwin from the Iowa Energy, according to the team’s website. Baldwin has appeared in 13 games for the Energy this season and he’s scoring 13.3 points per game.

11:56 am:

  • The Mavs have recalled Nicolas Brussino from their D-League affiliate, the team has announced via press release. In two separate stints with the Dallas affiliate Texas Legends, Brussino has averaged 16.8 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.
  • The Jazz have recalled rookie/birthday boy Joel Bolomboy from their D-League affiliate in Salt Lake City. Bolomboy has averaged 15.8 points and 12.9 rebounds per game in 14 D-League contests.

Mavs Waive Pierre Jackson, Sign Yogi Ferrell

January 28, 10:35 am: The Mavs have officially signed Ferrell, tweets Earl K. Sneed of Mavs.com.

January 27, 9:00 pm: The Mavericks have waived Jackson, opening the door for the addition of Ferrell, head coach Rick Carlisle confirmed today (link via The Dallas Morning News).

2:40 pm: Dallas will sign Ferrell to a 10-day deal, a source tells Shams Charania of The Vertical (Twitter link).

2:30 pm: The Mavericks will bring in Yogi Ferrell for an audition with an eye on signing him to a 10-day deal, Jeff Rabjohns of Peegs.com reports (Twitter link). The team currently doesn’t have an open roster spot, so a corresponding move would have to take place.

Dallas re-signed Pierre Jackson to a second 10-day contract on Wednesday, but the point guard injured his hamstring in Thursday’s loss to the Thunder. The team could waive him before his 10-day contract is up, though the team would still owe Jackson the full amount of the contract, or it could simply let the deal expire next week in order to free up a roster spot. The Mavs will play in four more games before Jackson’s deal is scheduled to expire.

If Dallas wants to re-sign Jackson once that deal expires, it will have to be for the rest of the season. League rules prevent teams from giving more than two 10-day contracts to any player in a given season and with Jackson already receiving two such deals, Ferrell’s audition could be foreshadowing Jackson’s eventual departure.

The Mavs could take other paths to opening up a roster spot, such as waiving a player or trading a player without receiving one in return. The team is reportedly shopping Andrew Bogutand Dana Gauruder of Hoops Rumors profiled the big man as a trade candidate earlier in the month.

Dallas is having trouble keeping its point guards on the court. Deron Williams missed the Thunder game with a sprained toe. J.J. Barea remains out with a calf injury and Jackson could miss time with his hamstring woes. If Jackson or Williams can’t play on Sunday versus the Spurs, the team may need to add some outside help sooner than later.

Ferrell played 10 games for Brooklyn earlier in the season, where he dished out a total of 17 assists while coughing up 14 turnovers before the team waived him. Since then, he’s been playing for the Nets’ D-League affiliate, the Long Island Nets.

NBA D-League Assignments/Recalls: 1/27/17

Here are Friday’s NBA D-League assignments and recalls from across the NBA:

  • Three Pistons players were assigned to the D-League today, with Henry Ellenson, Darrun Hilliard, and Michael Gbinije all joining the Grand Rapids Drive, per a team release. Detroit has a fully healthy roster for the time being, meaning there aren’t enough minutes to go around for the club’s young players. The plan is for them to remain in the D-League for two games, tweets Rod Beard of The Detroit News.
  • The Knicks assigned Maurice Ndour and Marshall Plumlee to the D-League earlier today, according to the team (Twitter link). Ndour led the Westchester Knicks with 22 points tonight, while Plumlee grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds.
  • Rookie forward Joel Bolomboy was sent back to the Salt Lake City Stars by the Jazz, per a team press release. Bolomboy had 17 points and 15 boards for Utah’s NBADL affiliate tonight.
  • The Mavericks assigned A.J. Hammons and Nicolas Brussino to the D-League, the team announced today in a press release. Both players were in the starting lineup tonight for the Texas Legends, scoring a club-high 19 points apiece.
  • After being assigned to Long Island on Thursday, Chris McCullough was recalled by the Nets today, according to a press release. McCullough saw five minutes of action in Brooklyn’s loss against Cleveland tonight.
  • Semaj Christon and Josh Huestis were also recalled to the NBA after a one-day D-League assignment, the Thunder announced in a press release. The duo contributed to the Oklahoma City Blue’s home win over Iowa on Thursday.

Suns Sign Ronnie Price To 10-Day Contract

January 27th, 12:47 pm: Phoenix has officially signed Price to a 10-day deal, according to the team’s website.

January 26th, 5:43 am: The Suns have a plan in place to sign Ronnie Price to a 10-day contract, tweets Shams Charania of The Vertical. The 32-year-old veteran played 62 games in Phoenix last season but hasn’t seen NBA action yet in 2016/17.

Price was last seen with the Thunder in training camp before he was cut prior to the start of the regular season. On October 29, we relayed that the guard had been offered an assistant coaching position with the Suns, but ultimately passed on the offer.

Last season Price averaged 5.3 points, and 2.5 assists in 19.5 minutes per game and even started 18 times.

The Suns have had an open roster spot on their 15-man squad since waiving John Jenkins earlier this month, so they won’t need to make a corresponding cut to create an opening for Price.

Heat Sign Okaro White To Second 10-Day Contract

11:23am: The signing is official, according to a tweet from the team.

10:06am: The Heat will sign power forward Okaro White to a second 10-day contract, tweets Jonathan Givony of DraftExpress.

White joined the team on a 10-day deal January 17th after Miami was granted a hardship exception. He has appeared in four games, averaging 3.8 points, 3.0 rebounds and one block in 16.5 minutes of action.

Once the second 10-day deal expires, the Heat will have to decide whether to waive White or sign him for the rest of the season. He had been playing for the team’s D-League affiliate in Sioux Falls after being cut by Miami in training camp.
