At this week’s NBA Board of Governors meetings, teams were reportedly advised that the league’s salary cap could rise past the $100MM mark as early as the 2017/18 season. Based on current projections, league officials expect the salary cap to increase from its current $63.1MM figure to $67.1MM next season, $89MM in 2016/17, and $108MM in 2017/18. The league has been careful to stress to its teams that these projections are contingent on the NBA and its players avoiding a work stoppage after the 2016/17 season when the league and the NBPA can opt out of the current collective bargaining agreement. Week In Review 4/5/15-4/11/15
Pacers forward Chris Copeland was attacked outside of a New York nightclub earlier this week and suffered knife wounds to his abdomen and left elbow during the assault. The veteran underwent surgery and will miss the remainder of the season and the playoffs. Copeland’s contract is up at season’s end and the Pacers can make him a restricted free agent by tendering him a qualifying offer of $3,918,750.
Hawks swingman Thabo Sefolosha and center Pero Antic were arrested at the same location and charged with obstructing governmental administration, as they allegedly refused to move when police were setting up a crime scene. Sefolosha sustained a fractured fibula and ligament damage in his leg and he required surgery because of the incident. The swingman will miss the remainder of the regular season and the playoffs as a result.

Week In Review 3/29/15-4/4/15
The Pacers announced today that Paul George would be available to play in Sunday’s contest against the Heat. George has missed nearly the entire 2014/15 season after breaking his right leg during an intra-squad scrimmage for Team USA last August. The 24-year-old had reportedly experienced soreness in his injured leg as he worked his way into game shape, but he has received medical clearance to play. “The recovery has been a long process and this is another step in the process,” George said. “I thank everyone, my family, friends, doctors, our training staff, coaches, the entire Pacers’ family for their support and encouragement. I’m excited, but at the same time I’m aware I’m still in a rehab stage and will continue to work to get back to full strength.” The Pacers are currently 1.5 games behind the Heat for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Week In Review 3/22/15-3/28/15
The Thunder’s playoff hopes took a major blow with the announcement that Kevin Durant would undergo surgery on his ailing right foot and miss the rest of the season. Durant played in just 27 games this season, the first time in his NBA career that he’s missed more than eight contests. The 26-year-old is expected to return to basketball activity in four to six months, OKC GM Sam Presti said in the official statement, a timeframe that should hopefully have Durant ready for the start of training camp in the fall. Week In Review: 3/2/15 – 3/8/15
A look back at the week that was..
- After months of speculation about where he would land, Ray Allen let the world know that he won’t be playing this season.
- That didn’t stop everyone from calling, however. The Blazers, after losing guard Wesley Matthews for the season due to a torn Achilles’ tendon, called the agent for the 39-year-old to gauge his interest. They were turned down.
- The Nuggets fired head coach Brian Shaw. In his time in Denver, Shaw coached the team to a record of 56-85.
- The Celtics and JaVale McGee appeared to be on the verge of an agreement, but things fell apart when the C’s wanted a team option on the second year of the deal and McGee’s camp wanted it to be a player option. Teams that are still interested in signing McGee also include the Rockets, Raptors, and Heat.
- The Clippers signed free agent guard Nate Robinson to a 10-day deal. In 33 games for the Nuggets this season, Robinson averaged 5.8 points, 1.2 rebounds, and 2.3 assists in 14.1 minutes per contest.
- Alexey Shved plans on staying in the NBA next season and isn’t plotting a return overseas.
- Shaw would “absolutely” be “very interested” in coaching the Magic if that job were to become available, according to a source close to the former Nuggets coach.
- Goran Dragic hasn’t been in Miami long, but he already knows that he wants to stay long-term.

- Derrick Rose has a torn meniscus in his right knee for the second season in a row and will require surgery. The good news is that he’s expected to return in four to six weeks.
- Larry Sanders isn’t sure that he’ll ever return to the NBA.
- The Sixers claimed Thomas Robinson off waivers from the Nuggets, spoiling Brooklyn’s deal to sign him. To make room, Tim Frazier was released from his 10-day deal.
- The Pistons claimed Shawne Williams off waivers.
- Three-time All-Star and 14-year NBA veteran Richard Hamilton announced his retirement.
- The Cavs officially signed Kendrick Perkins.
- Mike Miller plans on picking up his $2.8MM player option for next season.
- Brandon Knight acknowledged that remaining with the Suns beyond this season is an attractive option for him.
- It’s unclear if Ray Allen will return this season, but if he does, it won’t be for the Cavs.
- A person familiar with coach George Karl’s thinking says the Kings wouldn’t rule out trading DeMarcus Cousins or anyone else on their roster at the trade deadline.

Wow, what a week! With so much going down, you might have missed something. But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with our Week In Review..
- The Heat, Pelicans, and Suns pulled off a three-way deal that sent Goran Dragic to Miami. In that swap, Miami got both Goran and Zoran Dragic, the Pelicans got Norris Cole, Shawne Williams, Justin Hamilton, and cash, and the Suns got John Salmons, Danny Granger, Miami’s 2017 first-round pick (top seven protected) and Miami’s unprotected 2021 first-round pick. Salmons was waived as part of the deal.
- The Pistons, Thunder, and Jazz got together for a three-way deal that saw Reggie Jackson go to the Pistons and Enes Kanter head to OKC. Days earlier, Jackson’s agent requested a trade.
- The Suns got Brandon Knight in a three-way deal with the Bucks and Sixers. The Bucks’ haul included Michael Carter-Williams while the 76ers got the Lakers’ 2015 first-round choice (top-five protected).
- The Nuggets expected that Afflalo would command $9-10MM a year in a new contract this summer.
- Chris Bosh‘s season is over after doctors discovered blood clots in both of his lungs.
- Knicks star Carmelo Anthony was ruled out for the rest of the season.
- Dragic reportedly views the Lakers as a “perfect fit” and would love the opportunity to join the team in free agency this summer, though another report indicated that the Heat were the No. 1 team on his list of preferred destinations given to the Suns by his agent. The Pacers and Rockets were among the teams also interested in the guard before he was sent to Miami.
- The Nets sent Kevin Garnett to the Wolves for Thaddeus Young. The Wolves reportedly want to re-sign Garnett for another two years when his contract expires this summer, and he’s expected to take them up on that.
- The Blazers shipped Arron Afflalo and Alonzo Gee to the Nuggets. The Nuggets, meanwhile, intend to waive forward Victor Claver.
- The 76ers acquired JaVale McGee and OKC’s 2015 first-round choice from the Nuggets. The Sixers have no intention of buying out the big man.
- The Jazz and Kendrick Perkins agreed to a buyout and he’ll sign with the Cavs if/when he clears waivers. The big man liked Dallas, but the interest wasn’t reciprocated by the Mavs.
- The Pistons brought Tayshaun Prince back to Detroit. Prince was previously set to discuss a buyout with Boston.
- The Bucks and Larry Sanders completed a buyout deal. He apparently has no plans to pursue another deal in the NBA this season. The Mavs and Clippers have some degree of interest in Sanders.
- GM Mitch Kupchak says the Lakers don’t intend to focus on building around the aging Kobe Bryant and won’t mortgage their future to give Bryant one final shot at a championship.
- The Magic were willing to trade third-year forward Maurice Harkless and wanted a first-round pick or a “talented young player” in return for him.
- The Celtics acquired point guard Isaiah Thomas from the Suns in exchange for Marcus Thornton and the Cavaliers’ 2016 first round draft pick, which is top-10 protected.
- The Sixers traded K.J. McDaniels to the Rockets for Isaiah Canaan and a second-round pick.
- There is a growing feeling among GMs and league executives who are interested in signing Ray Allen that the veteran guard won’t play this season.
- The Wizards sent Ramon Sessions to the Kings for Andre Miller.
- The Rockets got Pablo Prigioni from the Knicks for Alexey Shved and a pair of second-round choices.
- Amar’e Stoudemire joined the Mavs after he reached a buyout with the Knicks.
- The Pistons are likely to sign John Lucas III for the rest of the season.
- The Nets and Thunder appeared to be on the verge of a deal sending Brook Lopez to OKC for Reggie Jackson, but it didn’t wind up happening. The Bucks also had interest in Jackson.
- The Clippers looked into trading for Gerald Green and Perry Jones III but never came close to a deal. The team reportedly dangled Jamal Crawford in trade talks also and he seemed glum about it.
- The Pelicans and Thunder completed a small deal which saw Ish Smith go to New Orleans. Smith was waived soon after.
- Cole drew interest from multiple teams.
- The Bucks had strong interest in Taj Gibson and some interest in Cole.
- Andrei Kirilenko will sign with CSKA Moscow once he clears waivers.
- Jared Sullinger will miss the remainder of the season because of a metatarsal stress fracture in his left foot.
- Draymond Green has interest in the Pistons but the Warriors made it clear again that they intend on matching any offer for him.
- The Sixers were eyeing Wolves forward Chase Budinger so that they could add draft picks and work out a buyout deal.
- The Mavs waived Ricky Ledo.
- There’s reportedly tension between the Nuggets and Ty Lawson. The Celtics and Nuggets had exploratory conversations about a deal involving Lawson.

- The Kings bounced Tyrone Corbin in favor of George Karl. Corbin will serve as an adviser to the front office.
- Paul George is targeting a mid-March return.
- Carmelo Anthony might shut things down after the All-Star break.
- LeBron James is “widely expected” to opt out of his contract this summer and sign a new contract that covers two years with a player option for the final season.
- The Heat are the latest team rumored to have interest in Goran Dragic, but the Rockets and Lakers appear poised to take another go at him before Thursday’s trade deadline. Meanwhile, the Suns are more apt to try and trade Isaiah Thomas than to deal Dragic prior to the deadline.
- The Kings are interested in several players, including Reggie Jackson, Jonas Jerebko, Arron Afflalo, and Wilson Chandler.
- The Ray Allen saga continues. Several teams have interest and the Warriors are hopeful enough that they’re keeping their last roster spot open until he decides.
- The Nuggets have also discussed Afflalo with the Blazers, Bulls, Clippers, and Heat.
- Amar’e Stoudemire’s representatives are still discussing a buyout with the Knicks, but the player still hasn’t made a definitive decision about his future yet. The Mavs would be the favorites to land him but the Warriors would also have interest.
