JULY 8th, 7:12pm: The signing is official, the team announced.

JULY 3rd, 5:32pm: The Clippers will re-sign veteran guard Jamal Crawford for $42MM over three years, tweets Shams Charania of The Vertical.

Crawford had been reported as unhappy with L.A.’s initial offer and was considered a threat to leave, with at least five teams having interest. The Clippers’ first offer was $12M for one season, according to Brad Turner of The Los Angeles Times (Twitter link).

The 36-year-old Crawford is the reigning Sixth Man of the Year, an Award he has captured three times. He averaged 14.2 points per night in 79 games with the Clippers this season.

Crawford, who made $5.675MM during 2015/16, is the second Clippers guard to re-sign this weekend. Austin Rivers inked a three-year, $37.5MM deal on Saturday.

Pretty sure they didnt have the money to do much of anything, so they probably needed to keep him. Wasnt sure they would after yesterday

yeah, but i still wouldn’t pay him 14 million when he’s 38 and 39 years old. that contract is a year too long

  3. Nobody wants to play in philly.

  4. But he’s famously injury free and clean-living and I can imagine he’ll be just as tricksy and productive at 40 years old

Bruh really ? Clippers over Cavs ? Money over championship? Woow

dude gave up money last time. Now he gets to stay where he is and get paid. Good for him, and to suggest he is guaranteed anything with the Cavs, who cant pay him, is shortsighted.

A championship with the Cavs is certainly no guarantee as the one they just won was obviously the 1st in 50 plus years. That being said, the PATH to a NBA championship is a LOT easier than with the Clippers who, if healthy, should certainly be a top 6 team in the NBA. Problem is, almost certainly, 4 of those top 6 teams are probably going to be in West with the other two being the Cavs and maybe the Hawks or Toronto in the East.

But money is money and the Cavs obviously couldn’t sign him for that amount AND bring back JR Smith who I would think is more of a priority for the Cavs.

        • Hawks?

Great for Jamal. He has been an underpaid asset for a number of years. It’s nice to see him cash in on this contract.

  7. Very bad money. He’ll be making 14 mil at age 39 shooting probably 37% total

Small sum for a guy who keep himself in great shape. Easily one of the more underrated players of the 00’s.
