Pacific Notes: Bagley, Oubre, Warriors, Smith

Kings big man Marvin Bagley, who has been limited by various injuries throughout his first two NBA seasons, has indicated that he feels vastly improved and is ready for the season restart in Orlando, per James Ham of NBC Sports Bay Area (Twitter link).

“I’m doing great,” Bagley said. “I’m 100%.” Bagley has been hampered by a broken thumb and a left foot sprain. He has logged time in only 13 games for the Kings this season.

There’s more out of the Pacific Division:

  • During a media call on Monday, Suns general manager James Jones did not rule out the prospect of Kelly Oubre Jr. to join his teammates for the league’s Orlando restart, according to Duane Rankin of the Arizona Republic. Oubre, the team’s starting small forward, underwent an arthroscopic surgery on his right knee for a torn meniscus on March 3 and is reportedly expected to remain sidelined through the summer.
  • Oubre, who will be an unrestricted free agent in the 2021/22 season, could be an appealing trade target for the Warriors, according to Anthony Slater of The Athletic. Slater assesses the Suns forward’s fit with Golden State. The contracts would line up nicely: Oubre is owed $14.2MM in 2020/21, and the Warriors have a $17.2MM trade exception on their books as a result of their Andre Iguodala trade last summer.
  • New Lakers wing J.R. Smith, signed to bolster the team’s depth as a replacement for Avery Bradley, notes that he struggled with depression during the 20-month interim between his last NBA job (with the Cavaliers) and this one, according to Kyle Goon of the Orange County Register. “Being somebody who has been around the league predominately for most of their adult life, when that’s kind of taken away from you, it kind of gives you that culture shock and you obviously don’t understand what you lost until it’s gone,” Smith said.

If Suns move up to 6th pick

Warriors get Oubre and draft Okongwu
Suns get Warriors pick, whoever they want

        • Warriors guaranteed a top 5 pick. Are you speaking of that pick? Plus the trade exception to the Suns for Kelly oubre Jr?

I guess the sun’s might do that. Maybe. What’s their benefit? They could keep Kelly oubre Jr and draft wherever they wind up… top 10 right? Or they don’t have their own pic?

Who is Klay Thompson this draft?

    Who is Curry next year?

Warriors need to draft Klay this year

    • Whoever the Warriors draft here it will be for another team. They won’t keep him. End of story.

It’s impossible to end the story when you are not the storyteller. You THINK that will happen, but it’s not a guarantee.

        • Nobody knows what will happen in the draft. If the Warriors get the #1 pick they made trade it to move down a few spots. I doubt Oubre is on their to trade for list. They have to many players coming back from injuries to take another injured player. The suns are on a rebuild they will keep their young player. Booker is the player the suns should trade for a big package. Booker’s attitude takes away all he brings to the court. They need a leader on the Suns.

        • There’s no good reason to keep a rookie on this team of players 30 plus. There’s a three-year window to win it all again maybe twice if they’re lucky. A rookie from this draft class does no good to them. Trade him for a future asset or a veteran. No brainer. You’ll see.

I always thought Oubre was overpaid. But he’s had a solid last 2 years. Specially this yr. He is still young. Maybe he’s finally grown up. But I don’t know him. So I’m skeptical he’s playing for a contract. Suns should know him. He’s got another yr on his contract. Getting a player plus future #1 from Warriors (TWolves). Be hard to turn down.

    • It would be the trade exception plus this year’s pic. No way they’re trading the Wolves pick next year for Kelly oubre Jr.

  3. Would be interesting for the Suns to explore trading Oubre but that’s a lot to give up to move up a couple places.

There isn’t a clear number 1 player in this draft and they two best prospects James Wiseman and Anthony Edwards both okay positions which are already filled on the sims by Booker and Ayton so that wouldn’t much sense.

Oubre is a perfect fit for the Warriors, especially if they trade Klay and Dray to get Giannis.

    • They’ll need everything Expendable to get Giannis. Nothing left to go get Kelly oubre Jr.
